  • Black Box 20 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The BBC news tonight carried a story about parents of a 17 year old in the USA who had fitted a Black Box to his car. It enabled them to monitor his speed, acceleration and braking. It occurred to me that if we made it compulsory to fit them in the UK, together with a GPS tracker, we could do away with S**** C******.
  • AA/RAC Inspections - worth it? 18 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Sorry if this has been discussed before - I searched and couldn't find anything. I am considering buying a 10 year old car with full dealer service history in mint condition. I have test driven it with a list of pointers to look for and am satisfied that it's okay - I'm no mechanic so that probably counts for nothing though!
  • Vehicle Registration V5. 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hi, I recently bought a three year old car from a reputable dealer that specialises in ex-fleet vehicles. At the time of the purchase the dealer wasn't in possesion of the V5 (Vehicle Registration Document) but has claimed that one has been applied for on my behalf.
  • Audi A6 Avant v BMW 5 Series Touring 15 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Any thoughts on the conparison between running costs for the two cars? I'm not too concerned about depeciation, just servicing, routine maintenance and reliability.
  • Shipping Cougar To Australia 16 Jan 2002 (Forum)
    > > I have the opportunity to work in Sydney for the next 2 to 3 years, an > opportunity which I am finding hard to resist. > There is a downside however, I will be hit with a big loss when I sell my 3 year old( 18,000 miled )Ford V6 Cougar, which I have had since new, before > departing Blighty. Is it worth shipping the car to Oz? If so what problems > can I expect re insurance, servicing and Oz equivalent of MOT?
  • Saxo suspension 28 Dec 2001 (Forum)
They say they are aware of a noise but it is nothing to worry about and I should expect such things on a mass produced car. I have stopped other owners who don't know what I am talking about. Now what shall I do ????
  • Alfa Spark Plug nightmare! 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I visited the Science Museum today. They have an interesting display of old cars and a number of cutaway engines - including the current 2.0 16v 4cyl and 3.0 24 V6 units. My question is HOW on earth do you change the spark plugs - they appear to be burried at least 6" below the rocker cover.
  • Non-ECU Diesels 5 Oct 2001 (Forum)
thread, David Woollard made the point: ?It is still a point everyone has to learn that ECU fuel injection in old cheap cars is going to be a major problem in years to come, often they aren't worth fixing.? He went on to suggest a (non-ECU) Xantia diesel. This is a point that is regularly made, for the benefit of those of us that don?
  • A car to fit 3 child seats in a row? 18 May 2012 (Forum)
I don't need a big people carrier right now, if we have a 4th child in the future it would be in about 4/5 years time and I would get a van style 7 seater.   So I need an in between car for the next few years that will accomodate a high backed booster seat for my 4 year old, a toddler seat for my 18 month old and a baby seat for the newborn. Preferably a 7 seater but cheap to run, but am now considering a 5 seater as I could always use the front seat if I childmind as would only take on 1 other child anyway.
  • New car - old car? £7,000 down the drain? 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Almost a dilemma with the 2002 1.9D Punto - then a few rough calculations. It`s done 60,000 miles as a home care car and does (the previously mentioned)...
  • Focus - new exhaust blowing 24 May 2007 (Forum)
My car is a Ford Focus, although this problem could occur with any car I guess... I got the (original) exhaust replaced recently on my 1999 1.8i Focus Zetec (flex pipe, centre silencer and back box) but the new one appears to be blowing and is as loud as the old one was getting, if not worse !
  • Fun practical used car for £6-8k 14 May 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I have about 6-8k to spend on a used car, maybe up to 3 years old and 50k miles. I currently have a Peugeot 306 which is now very old and needs a financially-nonviable repair, but is still excellent on twisty roads with good handling and steering feedback.
  • Toyota - Toyota extended warranty experience 26 Oct 2024 (Forum)
Our Yaris is now 7.5 years old, covered 45,000 miles doing school run, commutes, local trips etc, rarely sees the motorway.  It came with a 5 year warranty, but then became eligible for the new system whereby a new 12 month warranty is provided at every service up to ten years old 100,000 miles.

  • Replacing 2002 Mondeo - Still Looking 24 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Though at the price for a 2012 car? Any issues to worry about with a 2.0 TDCi if I find a good one?   I also test drove a 2011 old shape Focus. A 1.8 zetec.  I had expected it to be nippy as it had the same 1.8 engine as my old Mondeo in a smaller car.
  • Car decisions - can't get past the warranty 8 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Now what am struggling to get past at the moment is the Kia Ceed and the warranty. I can get a (diesel) Ceed for £10k easy, probably a year old with hardly 5 figures on the mileometer... but the cheery on the cake is it will still have 6 years warranty to cover it.... We also love the Insignia, Astra, 1-series and a few others but similar spec cars to the ceed would be at least 3 years old and out of warranty... if I understand correctly, the Vauxhall warranty is not transferrable at all so unless buying from (overpriced) Network Q then we only get the sale of goods act to rely on...
  • Car Insurance cancelled 13 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I have had my car insurance cancelled because I did not provide an upto date photo copy of my driving licence. I have the old paper drivers licence and submitted a photocopy copy as per ththe request of the insurance company. it has my old address on it.
  • Mazda MPV (2000 - 2007) - 53 plate Mazda MPV - keep or replace? 26 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I guess my budget would be between £10-£12k on top of what I could get for my current car and I'd be intending to buy something 6 months to a year old. My initial instinct is to avoid anything French but I'm no car expert so has anyone got any suggestions? Cheers!!
  • Front coil springs snapped - Fast fit centre? 1 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I have checked the front shock absorbers and they are not leaking so if oil appears tomorrow I shall go mad. The front pads are also 200 miles old so if they comment on that I shall go mad, my discs are old but perfectly smooth, not warped and still got some thickness in them (they will probably need replacing within the next two years). My main concern is they do something to make my car worse (e.g make a mistake like fitting the coils upside down) and then there will be no notice to get the car right before Friday when I need it for the holiday.
  • BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - buying an old BMW 2 Jun 2009 (Forum)
A neighbour is selling a '95 318SE manual. I haven't looked at it closely but it's described as mint with fsh and just 2 owners including my neighbour...
