C1/Aygo/107 - Realistic option 16 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I am seriousloy considering the C1 / Aygo / 107 option, but the problem of 1) a bloke 2) 6' 1" 3) "business man" driving what looks a very small car.... Is it a realistic option? My driving will 90% be just myself in the car, 9% me and girlfriend and 1% maybe 3 / 4 people in total... To get to work is 13 miles through town, out the other side, couple of single "main road" carridgeway a-roads mostly 30mph / 50mph and a section of national speed limit... and then some windy (how the heck do you spell windy without it sounding like the roads have flatulance?) -
Maximum miles from a tank of fuel 30 May 2008 (Forum)
In an effort to offset the rising fuel costs, I've taken to trying to fill up as little as possible and to drive as economically as is reasonable (60mph on motorways & A & B roads). I last filled up last Thursday and since then have driven up to North Wales and back (incl some 'spirited' driving around Snowdonia & short trips to shops) as well as driving from Wilts to Southampton and back all this week which includes the joys of the M27 to the north of the city! -
Vauxhall Zafira B (2005 - ) - A-pillar blind spot 16 May 2008 (Forum)
Does anybody know if there is any kind of aftermarket device, modification or tips that could help me. I have experienced a wide range of cars over 25 years of driving but have never come across this problem as bad as this before. I am severely having to alter my driving style to be safe in this car as I am constantly looking out for things that may or may not be there. -
I bought a a 52 reg MGTF 1.8 135 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I have to say that I'm starting to feel more gutted than I would have thought about losing the BMW, the MG has a lot to live up to,and I know that in terms of build quality, it doesn't stand a chance, but I'm confident that she's going to be a lot of fun to drive. The one that I've bought has the Sports Pack and a full leather interior so is quite a nice example, my initial impressions on the test drive were that she is extremely sharp to drive when compared with my current car, the only shortcomings really are in the trim fit and finish which can't live up to a BMW by any stretch of the imagination. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 1.6 petrol timing belt change intervals ? 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Having searched the forum, on the subject of Golf camshaft drive belts, we can only come up with discussion relating to the diesel engines. Can anyone help us with regards to clarification as to when the camshaft drive belt requires replacement? It would also be of help if costings for the replacement were to hand. -
Look out ..... it's white-van-woman! 5 Dec 2007 (Forum)
You may remember, a few months ago, we were discussing the correct way to place your hands on the steering wheel ..... well... A couple of weeks ago, I was driving in a line of traffic on the stretch of the A428 under St Neots when I spied, in my mirror, a bored-looking young lady in the large white van behind - with her head buried in her hands. Another glance - no, she wasn't the passenger, she was driving. -
Brooks' Gambit 26 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Even though you're now in the right, you can lessen the risk of this by some pantomime of having made a mistake. You can, for example, drive around twice to give the impression of someone who is lost, or make a show of looking into your 'A to Z'." -
Airbags, proximity, duty of care? 3 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Great driving as she got ahead of me at the lights and moved into my lane and following her through town she could clearly drive well. It made my heart ache though thinking of that airbag, did she know how far it expanded (etc) and should anyone advise her. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 - strange noise 4 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The local dealer has had the car in twice and can replicate the noise (by driving up and down in the workshop!) but cannot identify the exact cause. He is reluctant to start changing items without knowing the exact cause. Can you help? -
1st car for daughter decision 7 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi there Our oldest will be 17 next week and will be having driving lessons. Our second car is a 1999 Accord and SWMBO has always found it to be a bit of a bus and obviously it's not the ideal car for my daughter to learn on. So..... The plan is to buy a smaller car (2nd hand) mainly for the wife (she's a community nurse so does a fair bit of driving during the day) but also for driving lessons and for my oldest to scoot about in on evenings and weekends when (if) she passes. -
Fast forward how many years? 8 Dec 2006 (Forum)
in order to be able to commute by public transport with reasonable convenience (or be ?tele-commuting? from home) - Be driving smaller cars - Be driving cars with much smaller, more efficient engines, and sacrificing performance as a result - Car sharing - Have consigned ?classic? etc vehicles to the scrapyard or museums because they are socially unacceptable and prohibitively expensive to run. -
Audi A4 tdi 1996 - Power Loss? 15 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hello all, My wife Audi A4 1.9tdi (90BHP) seems to have an intermitten problem which I have now felt for myself. I have only experienced it in 4th and 5th. Situation 1: driving in 5th gear, engine underload (motorway slip road) accelerating.....the car got to 70MPH @ approx 2500rpm, then just lost all it's power.......changed to 4th...no power, changed to 3rd..no power, allow the car to slow down, back off the accel pedal, then she drives fine. -

T reg Ford Mondeo problems! 22 Apr 2006 (Forum)
It expired on the M25 on Friday with overheating - no water at all left and engine died. Daughter who was driving insists that she had no warning but engine still turns over, cambelt (done 37,000 miles) seems Ok as camshafts turn, along with auxillary drive belt too. Clearly water containing antifreeze has been sprayed over the bottom of the righthand end of the engine/driving belt. -
Corsavan, Lower speed limit ? 9 Feb 2006 (Forum)
However is what he said about lower speed limits true. Its well crap that the limit is 70 as is i dont think i could take driving at 60 (considering il also be doing a lot of long distance driving.) The reason im questioning this is because they guy who told me is a bit of a tard. I wouldnt trust him as far as throw him. If someone can confirm or deny this, please do. -
UK's worst driving by area 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Where is the worst driving area in the UK? I nominate Luton. I moved here from Slough, and the Thames Valley seems very good in comparison. Even South Devon with dopey grockles (trippers) seems good. But Luton! I have several near misses each week. -
New dangers when driving in London 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The 'street gangs' in London (particularly South London at present, but it is sure to spread) have initiation tasks which new gang members have to carry out to be admitted to the 'gang'. The latest craze is to drive around, deliberately with no lights on their cars. The first person who 'flashes' them, points at them or sounds their horn at them, has to be followed by that new gang member in their car, who then has to fire a shot into that vehicle with no regard as to who is inside. -
Rover 200 1999 1.4 - Unsolvable Problem 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The problem is as follows: - Car starts fine and idles ok for about 10-20 secs - After this time engine goes 'chuggy' and unsmooth idle, also feels like it could cut out sometimes. - If I go to drive off when this is happening the engine is reluctant to rev and have to give it a bit to drive off, and when I do drive off it's like the thing is running on kangaroo petrol. - Problem still there when engine warm but to lesser extent. - Car will run ok has no problem accelerating, although initial acceleration in any gear can be a bit jumpy. -
Jermaine Pennant case 4 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Jermaine was jailed for 3 months last week after a drink-driving offence in Aylesbury. It struck me that he presumably had expensive lawyers on the case ,if so he doesn't seem to have got much for his money. He was allegedly driving to see his girlfriend in Bristol , having left his home in Barnet at 0430 after a night clubbing , during which he drank 4 glasses of wine , which seems a modest amount for such a long session.
