There’s a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine and a petrol unit too that was offered with bi-fuel LPG power. The latter is rare though, the majority of Transit Connects being powered by the 1.8-litre turbodiesel. The four-cylinder diesel was offered in outputs ranging of 75, 90 and 110PS.

It employs AdBlue SCR technology to achieve EU6. The Mazda CX-5 2.2 150PS is a Skyactive manifold-in-head chain cam diesel engine that achieves EU6 without the need for SCR and AdBlue.

Also, for 6k - 8k per year the additional cost of fuel for a petrol engine is likely to be far less than the additional cost of repairs and maintenance for a diesel.

    Black death? I have decided to stick with diesels. My current diesel is a 2011 VW 2.0TDI, which I assume is EU5. I choose diesel for the good fuel economy (up to an indicated 70mpg), the mega high gearing, and the mid-range torque. Interestingly, the 1954 Jag D-type recently tested had a torque figure of 324Nm, and my VW is 320.

  There are only two seats, but that's to be expected in a car that can be parked end-on to the curb, should you dare to challenge the authority of the parking attendant.  It’s powered by a two-cylinder diesel engine linked to a CVT automatic gearbox and has a top speed of 65mph, although getting up to such a speed would be an arduous process, exacerbated by typical two-cylinder coarseness. Expect a genuine 65mpg, depending on your weight...
