  • Enjoyable motoring still possible! 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
The A3 did 51 mpg over the whole trip too (average speed 42mph according to GPS), another advantage of uncongested roads. Unlike trips up there a few years ago fuel is the same price as most of the UK ? the only exception was Mull where fuel was about 10p a litre more than the mainland. Highly recommended.
  • Best way to give employee a car? 19 May 2008 (Forum)
I know there are three ways of doing this: - 1. Buy or lease a car for him and he pays tax. He claims fuel back at how many ppm?? 2. Give him a car allowance anad he claims fuel back at how many ppm? 3. Give him the usual HMRC mileage rates and tell him to sort himself out. I am concerned that using 3, the car he would drive would not be of a standard suitable for the work, so would prefer 1 or 2.
  • FIAT Cinquecento (1993 - 1998) - 97 1.0 Stuttering Cinquecento Sporting 16 May 2008 (Forum)
any gunk in the system, but it makes no difference. Our local garage has been unable to find anything wrong. Everything to do with the fuel system has been cleaned. It might be sensible to get something newer but I hate to throw a good car away for what should be a soluble problem. Can anybody suggest anything?
  • Reducing Carbon Emissions . . . . 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Increase road tax on cars with CO2 levels f over 200g - seriously increase them to the 000s per year, after all posh won't mind if her Bentley is more exclusive will she! 4. Tax aviation fuel at the same rate as motor fuel - after all most of flights are non-essential. 5. Make all shops fit revolving doors - stop them having open doors and heating on full! 6. Deal with the blocks on moving home (Consistently good schools and stamp duty etc.) so people can re-locate rather than commute.
  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - (99-05) 2.0 Diesel engine cut-out 23 Dec 2007 (Forum)
On both these occasions I had allowed the level of diesel in the tank to drop to very low levels just prior to the engine failure but had refilled the tank and driven about 40 miles before failure. Diagnostic testing by a Bosch agent gave an error code which showed low fuel pressure and his educated guess was that the auxiliary fuel pump had an intermittent fault, but 2 instances in 11 months is not a lot to go on. Again the car seems to be behaving itself and replacement pumps are expensive, especially on an educated guess!
  • Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 1994 1.3 Auto - Starting Problem 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The car had a full service 2 months ago and once restarted runs normally with good pulling power. There is a good spark. 4. The AA mechanic thought it might be a sticking fuel injector, I've added 2 lots of fuel cleaner to the tank at inervals over the last 5-6 weeks witout seeing any improvement in restarting, Model: Ford Fiesta LX Equip Auto 1299cc 1994 Grateful for any advice.
  • Price of Shell diesel 13 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I see that Shell have now introduced a credit card that gives you cashback of 1% on purchases but 5% on Shell fuel purchases for the first 60 days, then I believe it goes down to 3% after that. My local garage is Shell and at the beginning of the week diesel (I drive a diesel and tend to check the price) was 101.9 going up on tuesday to 103.9.
  • Vauxhall - 00 2.8d Monavo blue smoke soon after start up. 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The smoke is by no means excessive, but it is causing me a little worry. I have just brought the vehicle and treating it to a diet of good quality fuel and "redex" fuel system cleaner. Is there anything I can do. I've just had an oil change new filter done. Vehicle is a Vauhxall Movano van with a 2.8 TDI engine, done 138K. I see you can get these "smoke reducing" liquids from Halfords and other motor places, that you put in with the engine oil.
  • Advice on Choice of Daily Commute Car? 13 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Also good comfortable cruiser, with good motorway accelration, as car will probably get driven 4 hours a day at least. Fuel economy is not so much of an issue as fuel is paid for by company, A car that will have good resale is also a must...ie when its over 5 years old and taken out of service we want to recover as much of our money as we can.
  • VW Passat TDI 130 Jerky Acceleration 24 May 2007 (Forum)
It passed it's MOT Emissions test without problem just after the repairs The car has just been serviced with a new fuel filter fitted but still jerky from time to time over 40 mph no problem and fuel economy is OK but just a bit lower I think. No apparent problem with power because I tow a caravan and it seems to be OK when towing I would like to sell the car soon as I am buying another one but would like to sort the problem out first I would be grateful if anyone has had this problem and had it cured or can suggest where to look my mechanic is puzzled Many Thanks
  • Scrap! 5 Apr 2007 (Forum)
So, off to the scrap metal man it went - he's got a surprisingly useful job, and the processing is interesting. The scrap vehicle has the tyres removed, and all fluids drained. Some of these are recycled (fuel, particularly, is put into drums, and sent for "cleaning" and re-use. The scrap man is paid for this fuel). After this, the whole vehicle goes straight through a shredder, which reduces it to small pieces.

  • Range Rover cutting out 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
'Tis very odd! Its a 1986 "Classic" manual with fuel injection, and usually I quite like it. However...... Its just had surgery to repair rust for its MOT, so you think it'd be grateful. No chance! Every 3 or 4 miles or so it cuts out. Dead. Without warning.
  • CR Diesel Nightmares. 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I've tried it with the last 3 fuel fills & the engine starts & runs the same as it always has. Can anyone see any downfall in this idea. At least I can sleep sounder at night LOL.

  • 306td...no ignition?? 29 May 2004 (Forum)
The fuel pump has not been disturbed so the pump internal timing should be fine. It is not an immobiliser problem. Its cracking me up, can anybody shed any light on other possible causes?
