  • n/a - PSA - Fiat - Chrysler link up. 23 Dec 2019 (Forum)
As announced in October, Carlos Tavares, 61, chairman of the PSA board, takes operational management for five years of the new giant, which becomes the world's 4th largest manufacturer (8.7 million vehicles per year), behind Volkswagen, Toyota , and especially the Renault-Nissan alliance, which he left in 2013, in the middle of a showdown with Carlos Ghosn. He finds himself at the head of a portfolio of 14 brands: the five of the PSA group (Peugeot, Citroën, DS, Opel Vauxhall) to which must be added Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Fiat, Lancia, Maserati, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, RAM.
  • rover streetwise 2.0 TD - lack of performance 18 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Anyway the car has no power to it, it will cruise quite happily at 70mpg when it gets there. It is slow to accelerate and loses power on steep hills. A turbo diesel i had in the past a Renault megane, used to go like stink compared with this car.   No noises or anything nasty sounding, however just not enough go, are these engines just like this or does something need tweaking.

  • Nissan Note - Note 1.5 Diesel - am I asking for trouble? 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
From looking on this forum and elsewhere, there appears to be very little wrong with the 1.5 dci Renault engine the note uses. I'll be looking at a post 2009 car, and have found that there may be problems with the earlier versions. I've found a good 2009 version with around 30k on it, and would look to keep the car for the long term.
  • Operating the electric handbrake..inconsistencies 6 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I can't comment on VW/Audi, and i can't remember exactly how the Vauxhall Insignia brake operated, but i don't recall anything unusual, and i can't remember how Renaults operate either. Anyway here's a few to start with Citroen Pull on Pull off. (C5, C6 normal siting, C4 Pic top of dash) Jaguar, Land Rover, (All Fords?) Pull on Push off ...quite normal to me anyway.

  • Newbie, please be gentle with me! 11 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I've owned many european cars with so called character, but now drive a Nissan tino, unpopular and ugly, but surprisingly good. My previous VW's Renaults and Fiats had far more niggles and problems, whereas the Nissan just seems bullet proof, It'll be another Japanese car for me next time. Nice to meet you all, as it were. Oli, not oily.

  • Ibiza - Fiesta or Ibiza? Any recs? 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
Had a couple of the old style Corsas as loan cars and they were hideously underpowered even the 1.4. Will not consider anything by Mazda or Renault.
  • Need something more comfortable 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
However finances at present are not fantastic, and realistically I am looking at sub £2k territory. The Megane was/is a great find - a reliable Renault with one owner, full service history and virtually unblemished. I paid £1400 for it 9 months ago and suspect I could still get £1k for it. I really don't want to get rid since in every other respect it is perfect for my requirements.
  • RAV4 or XTrail diesel auto 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
At the moment I have a 2003 diesel XTrail which I'm well satisfied with, although minor quality problems at 6 1/2 years and 130000 km are making me wonder if Renault quality isn't rubbing off on Nissan. When I tried the XTrail, I was surprised to find that the transmission didn't change into 6th until 110km/h. Can anyone tell me if this is a 'smart' box which will learn that I have a very light right foot and go into 6th at a lower speed?
  • Excessive restraint 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I am all in favour of road safety, reduction of injuries, particularly whiplash, but I can't believe it's impossible to structure head restraints to be comfortable and safe. The Rover SD1 had removeable button-on pads, Renaults have wonderful folding cushions which mould to the driver's head and neck, so why does a mass production car have to be so uncomfortable?
  • How do "not so reliable" manufactuers make profit? 7 Oct 2007 (Forum)
From most motoring forums (here, parkers etc.), anyone will probably conclude that manufacturers like Citroen, Renault, Alfa Romeo etc. usually make unreliable cars. I wonder if these companies really make bad cars! If they had such a bad reputation, shouldn't everyone ditched them and by now they should have closed their business?
  • 1997/R Fiesta 1.25 Zetec-s engine prob. 24 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Obviously it is a little dangerous when trying to pull on to busy roundabouts and pulling across junctions etc. I'm personally a VW and Renault man and know nothing of Fords, however I feel this could be linked to the ignition system. With the clutch depressed the engine revs freely. Any help which you may have would be really appreciated.
  • Small Autos & some Clio questions 20 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Is it less of a concern on an Auto as there is no clutch wear to worry about? Are all those electrics on an 8yr old Renault a cause for concern? Grateful for any advice on these questions - small autos ain't really my speciality subject!! Cheers
  • Great Hitches 13 Nov 2006 (Forum)
A taxi to the nearest town with a bus service was looking like ££££££££ so hiking it was. Downed my beer and waited in the rain. 20 mins later beat up Renault van stops and asks me where I'm going I mention a couple of towns down towards the main road and tell him I'm eventually heading for Bastia airport. "I live right next to the airport and you've given me an excuse to call it a day" - two hours of full-on mad Corsican driving later he drops me outside departures, giving me an extra day and meaning I can get home in time for my wife's birthday.
  • Vehicles for wheelchair users.. 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Are there alternatives, both in terms of other conversion companies, or different types of vehicle, as my father has always enjoyed driving interesting cars, and I can see him taking to a van easily. Also, he would want an automatic gearbox. Is if only Renault that do an automatic van (Kangoo)? Alternatively, are there any 'gadgets' that enable a person to sit down facing outwards and then swing around into the car? Thanks
  • Clio - Tyres replaced / problems 8 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Afternoon all. In recent months I have replaced all four tyres on my Renault Clio 1.5dci. Wheel size 185/55/r15. v rating. I was using Goodyear Eagle F1 GSd2. Superb tyre, good grip in wet and covered astronomical miles in. I therefore put four more of the same on. To date, the steering wheel seems a little out as does the tracking.
  • Young Drivers What is the answer? 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Late on saturday night, I was called out to attend a fatal road traffic accident, in which the 17yr old passenger of a Renault Clio was unfortunately killed. The details of the accident are irrelevant to the post. Is there more that can be done to try and lessen the number of young drivers killed? I am talking here solely about young drivers, and acknowledge that all age groups have drivers who drive too fast and kill themselves or others as well.
  • Alloy cylinder head material 9 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Thinking back in time however, Dad's 1998 S80, 1979 244, and 1972 144, all exhibited the same 'white powder' surface corrosion that my V70 does. The only exception has been Mum's (Renault 1.7 powered) 1989 440. So, what do Volvo do, or not do with its engine alloys, please?
