Auction Car Quality 25 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a 5 series BMW (who isn't according to HJ!), I consider Trade Sales to offer the lowest priced retail cars I can find and will shortly take at look to see their quality. I've also thought about buying at auction using a buyer to try to beat even the likes of GTC's buyers, my question is really do decent specced reasonably well kept cars end up at auction or does the trade "snaffle" them up before they get there? -
How about some positives for a change 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Toyota, with their recalls, BMW, Ford and many others are getting bad press and comments from many. How about some positives for a change? My old CLK has done 40k for me in 2.5 years and is approaching 120k. It's had normal servicing from an indie and apart from discs and pads has been good as gold. -
MINI - 08 1.6 Losing coolant 11 Feb 2010 (Forum)
My brother has a (BMW) Mini, petrol auto with about 20k on the clock. Recently, in traffic, the coolant temp warning light came on and the fan cut in to cool things down. He asked me about this and I advised him to check the coolant level. -
High-octane fuels & power in non-turbo engines 3 Feb 2010 (Forum)
In the latest issue of Bike magazine, there's a dyno test of ordinary 95 octane pump fuel versus Shell V-Power and BP Ultimate 102 (just £2.46 per litre!) They used two modern, high-performance bikes, a Suzuki GSXR1000 and the new BMW S1000RR. The results? Neither high-octane brew gave any more power or torque than ordinary 95 octane ... not even half a percent more. They also printed the dyno curves and they are as near identical as makes no difference for each bike ... certainly well within experimental variances. -
driven wheels - who knows? 13 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The topic came up today in the office about the effect of the snow and the pro's and cons of FWD RWD and 4*4. I was really surprised at the lack of knowledge especially a BMW owner who had no idea hers was RWD and a CRV owner who said his was FWD only. Now while 99% of the time it makes no difference to the average motorist driving in normal conditions, surely its key in this weather. -
Mercedes Benz C-Class Sport Coupe (2001 - 2008) - 03 Sport Coupe or 03 320 Ci SE? 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I cover approx 400 miles/week - almost all of which are on the motorway. I'm more than happy just to sit at 70. Reckon the Merc will be available £750 less than the BMW but all in - both cars are immaculate with mature previous owners. Any advice or comments to watch on either? Cheers -
Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - 05 2.2 rear diff noises when on full lock 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
To be honest we've had so many problems with this car, bought new in 2005 (2.2 deisel executive 41K now) that I'm tempted to get rid and go back to BMW, although financially it's not a good time for us. For interest, it does about 40mpg, more on a run, and fuel consumption got worse when the egr valve was changed. I've done an additional oil change between annual services, as it does a lot of short runs. -
Mercedes Benz C-Class W204 (2007 -) - Lane Changing indicators 31 Jul 2009 (Forum)
From new , my lane changing indicator function would only work say 9 times out of 10. It is supposed to flash the indicators 3 times (a bit like a BMW or Mini) and is vital on the Motorway. Well it didn't work as advertised so the switch gear was changed but with no improvement you can guess the Mercedes Benz response... "that's the way it is you have to live with it" Sure enough I had shown the same fault in a Brand New Car in the Showroom so I guess it's one problem that will cost MB money to fix. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - Looking to buy a Mazda6 2.3 Sport 1 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Hi All Further to my bmw query, I've rather gone off the idea of getting an E39 at this time, due to concerns over maintenance costs (given the age and mileage my budget would be buying. So instead I've decided to remain loyal to Mazda and am looking at a 6 with the 2.3 petrol sport model. -
Changing my car, but which one? 23 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I want a more fuel efficient car that I can put the miles on and don't really want to spend more than my trade-in plus a couple of hundred quid. Looked at a BMW 118d or Lexus 220d but I'm not sure they're quite in my price range. Does anyone have any suggestions? For the first time I'm really not sure what to be looking at... -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - Retro-fitting Cruise Control/PDC 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
There are several "kits" on ebay that claim to be VW parts, which look to be effectively a new indicator stalk, with the associated buttons/switches on. I had a 1991 BMW 730i for a short period, and the previous owner had fitted Cruise himself, and told me it was as easy as installing the new stalk, and plugging it into the ECU under the steerign wheel. So my question is, how easy would it be to do on my car, and is it worth the hassle? -
Is200 - Baby on the way - What Next? 12 Jan 2009 (Forum)
(We've owned an e46, e39 & e34 (and test driven the current 5 series) but the missus couldn't get a comfortable driving position in any of them so that rules out BMW Tourings. The Is200 estate isn't much bigger than the saloon - so that's out too). I don't want to give up having fun driving just yet so MPV's are out and I can't justify a second car given we do less that five thousand miles a year. -
'New Old' Member Dropping By 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Some of the discussions on here are really interesting, and I love talking about cars so hopefully I can add some of my wisdom to the debates, lol! I'm Dan, 21 years old, student, and I drive a 57 plate BMW 116i. Previously I had a Ford Ka, which I had up until this summer when I had a run-in with a foreign lorry on the M40 :( Love my Beemer and think it's the best looking/handling hatchback you can buy. -
In a perfect world. Which car ? 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I think, though I will almost certainly change my mind several times, that mine might be a current BMW 535d Touring with all the toys. -
Alfa Romeo - Alfa Romeo's Reliability 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I've ALWAY fancied an Alfa Romeo 156/159... but have been seriously scared off with the stories of Alfa's reliability. I know a new guy has taken over at Alfa (German chap from BMW) - can anyone tell me whether Alfa's are more reliable now - would YOU buy one?! I'd love a petrol, but I'm told the diesels seem more reliable plus there is the added bonus of better fuel consumption and torque. -
Speedometer size and position on the dashboard 16 Jan 2008 (Forum)
It used to be that speedos were right in front of you as per my old Volvo and Mercedes C class. Now I have to drive a BMW (the wifes') that has an unreadable speedo and you are never sure of your speed. The speedo is offset and equal prominence is given to the rev counter that I never look at ( whats the point on a diesel? -
Has a Car TV advert ever made you buy? 31 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I still remember watching a British Rail (or whatever they were called) advert in the early 90s which parodied various car adverts of the period: opening hangar doors (BMW), priest on train (Renault 19?), train zipping past a blazing field (Peugeot 405), Papa and Nicole on the platform (Clio). All very clever. I asked SWMBO how many car adverts she'd spotted and she of course replied, "what car adverts"! -
£1500 to spend this weekend 11 Aug 2007 (Forum)
We want something a bit different, with a big engine that will get us round our 4000 mile trip to Southern Spain and back with the minimum of hassle, in the maximum of comfort. Short-list so far is: Jeep Cherokee 4.0 Mercedes 300TE/S-class (if we can find one in budget BMW 5/7 series (530/535) Range Rover 3.9 Or any other suggestions! Help is really appreciated guys!! -
Insurance write off 1 May 2007 (Forum)
By law I am entitled to be put in the same position I would have been in had the accident not happened. BMW have quoted £6600 to do the repairs which includes £1200 labour! Presumably the lorry company insurance company will offer some low figure based on Parkers. To replace this bike retail from a dealer the cost is around £6800 - £7000. -
Golf Gti MK5 18 Mar 2007 (Forum)
(from reading bits on here), will she be disappointed after her totally reliable MINI ? Is Service as bad as people make out in VW Dealers ? BMW dealers' experience is pretty good and we've used three for both cars - the cars are always fixed properly, never had to go back other than for routine problems, the costs have been predictable. She intends to buy new.
