  • Small car drivers watch out 13 May 2005 (Forum)
The US State of Oregon, not wishing to lose fuel tax revenue caused by the popularity of small and hybrid cars, is carrying out a study of ways to introduce a Vehicle Mileage Tax to ensure that small car drivers "pay their fair share of taxes".
  • Nissan Micra "v" reg K11 16 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Several people seem to have cold stall problems, mine won't start from cold, once running it's fine. I have checked there is fuel getting through and spark and it has just been serviced, the garage found no problems. Is there a cold start sensor?
  • pug 106 starting problems 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My 1.4 XS pug is not starting first time. Starter motor is working and fuel is definately getting to the engine so the pump is ok. Ive read elsewhere that it may be something to do with the ?TDC sensor?. The other thing is that the revs go crazy from time to time are these problems connected?
  • Your Most Expensive Repair 17 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have now got it back, in full working order, but am £975 the poorer after the garage had to replace all 4 fuel injectors. Can anyone top the £1k?
  • LPG ? 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Still looking for a newer car , and came across a Volvo S60 bi-fuel (LPG) . Its a 2002 model and to be honest it is very nice . But my big worry is (please excuse me) because its a 2.4 5 cylinder no turbo , will it still cost as much to run , as say a diesel Vectra ?

  • Now I know I'm sad .... 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
... after having filled up at the local Shell and paid, on returning to the car to make a note of the mileage and number of litres etc to keep the running total on the fuel consuption... to see grandma in her Toyota Corolla doing exactly the same thing on the other side of the pump...! Sad Steve

  • Mondeo Immobiliser 15 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1994 Mondeo with a factory fit Bosch immobiliser. It has developed a fault where it is not releasing the fuel pump when you deactivate it. My garage has isolated this part of the system, but say it will have to go to Ford for a complete fix. Has anyone any experience of this system or had a similar problem?
  • CAT probems 16 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I suspect my CAT is faulty because the car has been giving off various smells such rotten eggs and un-burnt fuel also it sounds as though it is slightly blowing at low speeds.
  • Mercedes C220 1993 20 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone know anything about fuel gauge sender unit problems associated with blowback when filling tank? Wording amended. Contributing to an online discussion group with the caps lock on is thought to be bad manners (it\'s a way of expressing bad temper because it looks as if you\'re shouting).
  • Vw golf mk2 alloy 21 May 2003 (Forum)
I have currently got 13 inch rims with 185/13/65 tyres. thinking of changing to 15 inch alloys with 195/15/60 tyres. Is this going to be ok? Will they fit and not cause any problems i.e. gearbox ratio/fuel consumption/steering/suspension? Many Thanks Sarb

  • Smelly Car 2 Mar 2003 (Forum)
What would cause a car (with CAT) to smell horribly like eggs after a high rev run. The run doesn't even have to be that long. I dont think its the fuel im using cause i've switched to different good brands, but the problem remains. It is ok if I dont use high revs that much.
  • Lambda Sensor 15 Mar 2002 (Forum)
As the Lambda sensor only works when hot, and any signals from it are disregarded until then, what tells the ecu not to let the vehicle start due to too much fuel in the exhaust?
  • Diesels 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Aside from cost, what is the advantage ? Other than longevity, MPG, and in some countries, fuel costs, why else would you choose to drive diesel over petrol ? I might for towing, although I'd prefer a bloody great petrol engine. But I'd choose the petrol every time. Anybody else have a view ?
  • Esso diesel 4 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I have a diesel powered 406 HDI and find that Esso fuel makes this car go much better than any other diesel. Why might this be ? and do peugeot throw all their cars together in such a slipshod way as they assembled mine ? it rattles like a set of spanners having a gang bang in a filing cabinet.
  • Low sulphur diesel 7 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Saw your comments on injector pump failure (Fiesta Oct 6)and wonder if adding 1 cc of SAE 30 to each 1 L of diesel fuel whould not solve this problem. Comments (but not as to the greeness) would be appreciated. Nick
  • Any - Suzuki SX4 SCross vs Honda Civic vs Toyota Avensis 23 Feb 2019 (Forum)
      3) Toyota Avensis 2009 VVTI (not the v-matic, hence no electric parking brake) model:-2009 mileage:- 63000 cost:- £3200   Pros:- Lowest cost option Avensis has excellent reliability ratings as per tuv surveys and other ratings 1.8 engine Decent motorway fuel economy (40 mpg?) Cons:- car is 10 years old. Problems may start appearing? Fuel economy worse than above 2 options. Perhaps 35 in regular driving and 40 on motorway cruising?   I tend to look after my cars well (never skimp on servicing or quality of parts used) and keep them long term.
