  • Citroen Xantia 2.0 HDi - Citroen Xantia, Startup issues 25 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Car tried to start so didn't think issues with starter motor, glow plugs etc. Will kick in OK using Easystart but cannot get diesel to engine. This led me to believe that the immobiliser kicked in (for some reason) and so this cuts off power to the fuel pump and so no fuel getting to the engine. After unplugging battery, charging it up, removing shunt fuse and then banging the fuel tank (where fuel pump was), I finally got it up and starting.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 2001 1.9 diesel - injector problems! Please help! 12 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Any Citroen experts out there? I bought a Berlingo Diesel on a 51 plate at the tail end of last year. It has the 1.9 DW8 engine with electronic engine management (Non HDI) and has done around 30,000 miles. I bought it because of the supposed reliability of PSA diesel engines..
  • Ford Mondeo - LPG? Forget it! 19 Sep 2013 (Forum)
So, including the conversion, I've added about £5,000 to the cost of covering 40,000 miles, not counting the aggravation, loss of performance and poor fuel economy. My projected fuel cost for the period would have been £6,750 at today's pump prices had I not done the conversion. My fuel cost at today's prices running on gas are about £4,500.

  • Internal combustion, 60 years on 19 May 2007 (Forum)
An engineers machine....... vastly better construction, tolerances etc, but 60 years of progressive development time lost. Now apply that thinking to todays typically common rail diesel car and its systems. Its got the latest computerised diesel fuel injection and systems, way beyond what we thought would be possible back in the 60`s. Its on the M1 and has been in the outer lane for an hour, heat pours of the exhaust, the radiator, the whole surface of the engine and the sump radiates heat.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 Zetec Tdci 115 fuel consumption 18 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Hi, I've recently bought a Focus 1.8 Tdci 115bhp from a Ford dealer. I'm a bit disappointed by its fuel consumption as I'm only getting about 48mpg from it whereas I thought that this car is supposed to do about 53mpg. This is about 540 miles on a full tank if I leave it as long as poss until the fuel needle really isn't moving.

  • Trip computer inaccuracy 28 Apr 2021 (Forum)
We are talking about around 20mpg. The car consistently displays for motorway majority trips around 55mpg of fuel consumption. At the time, I thought it too good to be true; after all, I had come from a 2L Diesel Toyota Auris and that one did about 45mpg. The reality is that the RAV4 does about 30-35mpg. And this is what I would expect from a small diesel SUV, so I’m not complaining about the performance/consumption but the inaccuracy of the trip computer.

Can anyone please help several months ago the unblock diesel filter warning came on followed by anti pollution fault resulting in the car going into 3000 rpm limp mode. • Motorway vs Town 8 Nov 2010 (Forum)
What I'm looking for is something 1.8 to 2.0 litre. Not fussed about diesel or petrol but i don't think i do the miles to pay the premium on a diesel. Focus/Astra/Golf Sized. That can easily do 85 mph on the motorway with out revving as high 4k. Maybe something like a 6 speed 1.8 petrol??

  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - I may have made a mistake.... 30 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Love the car, drives well, well built etc. HOWEVER it would appear that my 9-10K miles a year is going to change drastically to 20-25k. Fuel consumption is the one downer on the Focus (max 38mpg) and I now wonder if I should chop it in quick for a diesel. Sods law I part ex'd a diesel Seat Toledo for the Focus-partly because I only done 8K miles last year in it so thought petrol would be okay.....

  • 03 Rover 25 2.0 TD IL ...should I? 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
but apart from clutch problems it has always been mega reliable and I wouldn't mind something similar again - just not a Peugeot because of the weird pedal situation! As for why it has to be a diesel, I just prefer to spend more on the car and less on the fuel... I had a 106 1.1 and put in £20 a week, a Corsa 1.0 and put in the same, a 206 2.0 HDI and put in £25 a month and the same for the 106 1.4D.
