  • Nissan Almera (2000 - 2006) - - time to replace, but with what? 2 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have a list as long as my arm of requirements, mostly because the Almera came so well equipped it will be hard to give up a lot of what I already have; and I try to add at least one more piece of equipment to the list with each car I have. Ideally, it will be smaller than the Almera. There's just two of us and we cover approx 10-12k a year, a large majority of city driving (around many roundabouts), with the occasional (1-2 times per month) 250 mile 'round trip to Bristol and back from MK.
  • New Small Cars - nothing to buy... 5 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have a feeling again that it might be a good time to have a new car, I've been out this week to check on some of the latest models. My Colt 3dr is now almost 3 years old and performed well, I've had a couple of minor issues with regards to rattles and Mitsubishi customer service but nothing that would prevent me from buying the same model/brand again, especially as the number one factor space is well taken care of.
  • 2003 V70 2.4T chip tuning 19 Nov 2004 (Forum)
    (c) The dealer price of a RICA chip that would give near T5 outright performance, and even stronger 2.4T characteristics was nowhere near the cost between an otherwise identically specced 2.4T and T5. Yes, dealer price, because the Dutch Volvo dealer even offered to chip the car ready for collection! In the end, I decided to bed the car in as standard, and research the market properly, especially as the V70 has been purchased new with long term ownership in mind, not a three year chop.
  • Home trading questions 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I've bought all our familys cars from auctions for years now, then it extended to helping friends and relatives buy cars from auctions, hell I even bought my rally car fully prepared from auction! The only thing that has stopped me from selling cars part time is the hassle of advertising a car in the local paper, when you live 5 miles out of town.
  • 9 best kept insurer secrets 22 Aug 2012 (Forum)
The 9 Best Kept Secrets your Insurer would not like you to Know. 1. The Courtesy Car. Many insurers offer a courtesy car if you use their “Approved Repair Centre” this would reasonably appear to something they pay for.  NOT TRUE. The cost is borne by the repairer with no additional revenue or supplement, so even before the repairer lays a hammer on your bent motor he has to recoup the cost of that car somehow. 2.

  • Insurer will not renew 9 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Onto the comparison sites and Alliance came in at £575 and LV £602, for exactly the same risk (NX300h with self, wife and daughter covered).  Moneysavingexpert suggested trying a multicar policy and I clicked through to LV. I planned to include both the NX and my wife's Yaris. Total cost last year was £435+£302= £737, so that was the target to beat.
  • Peugeot 2008 1.2 EAT6 130 - 3 yr progress report 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Three mainly 'covid' years seem to have passed quickly - kind to cars as fewer miles than usual. Just passed first MoT (no advisories) after a trouble-free 16,800 miles, apart from a duff irremovable wheel locking bolt covered in another thread.  No sign of any superficial rust anywhere on a recent underbody inspection when I swapped the wheels front to back for even tyre wear.
  • Mercedes E300 Cabriolet - Disc pads and disk brakes. 22 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I'm just back from my first B service and my car has  covered just under 28000 miles .  It's 2 1/2 years old.  Dealership have told me I need to replace both the pads and disks on my front wheels, at a cost of around £500.   I had expected to get a little more mileage before I needed new pads, never mind disks   (I am not a racing driver :-)  I drive mainly about town with a little motorway driving thrown in.)
  • No idea - Large load space for dog cage and other gear 14 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I value reliability far higher than looks, and with the exception of e-windows in the front I am not fussed about any gadgets. I would prefer SUV style for easier access, I don't want to bend down to get into an estate car. Not bothered about age if it was something I would get 5+ yrs use out of, and I would hope to spend less than £20k - but if necessary I could extend that for the ideal vehicle.  I might be looking for a unicorn here, but is there something in the UK that fits the bill?
  • 2010 Ford S-Max 2.0 Powershift - Ford admits fault after warranty expires ! 19 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Vehicle taken but fault returns a couple of weeks later, go back to Ford dealership who say Ford Technical told them to do a gearbox 'software update'. Vehicle taken again but fault returns after warranty expires (July 16th). I take the car back to Ford dealership and they take another look and get back in touch with Ford Technical. I was told that the fault lies within the control unit of the gearbox but Ford have said they will not cover costs because vehicle out of warranty.
  • Mitsubishi L200 - New L200 Barbarian - rejecting under consumer act 29 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I contacted the dealer and was told it was a design fault and nothing they could do. I had a look at the consumer goods act and thought I would be cover since the vehicle was not fit for purpose therefore I wanted to reject it. Now it gets complicated and maybe this is where I am going wrong. Since the car was on finance I contacted them and told them I wanted to reject it.

  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2002 1.4TDCI ? injectors or pump 26 May 2012 (Forum)
Help we are coming to the end of our tether. We got the fiesta 1.4 tdci 3 years ago with approx 25,000 on the clock ran lovely for the first 2 1/2 years. We had wheel bearing done at 30,000 miles then water pump shortly after.A bit of the air con unit fell off last year. Then the fun began. In July 08 we developed an intermittent ticking which went when the engine warmed up.Then we started to get diesel fumes in the car.Went to two garages one said number 3 injector had gone the other said all the seals needed replacing.Had the seals replaced with the brushes/bushes and returned with a distinct lack of power.Could just get up to 70mph ticked over ok no smell of fumes but nowhere near the same amount of power.Cut a long story short car has been back and forth up to 15 times since. Its been on the ford diagnostic machine which shows no faults. The manifold cover was checked. It has been off the road since October after its last trip to the garage when they told me they had taken the injectors off to get them tested ( ?
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 2.0D Tyre valves snapped. Non warranty part? 29 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I've gone through a lot of cars over the years and none of them have ever had this problem & the damage i've done on some alloys have been really bad. The only thing i can think of what could have caused the damage is when i pump the tyres up?
  • Motorway driving standards 26 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I had a session a while back with a really excellent advanced driving instructor, but while he was brilliant on how to cover A and B roads quickly and safely, he had no ready solution for motorways. More generally, I'd like to think that improved driver education about keeping left might help, and even save money and lives, but that's the government's job, not mine.
  • Any - Bio-diesel 3 Oct 2010 (Forum)
They sell the new ultra-low-sulphur-diesel mandated by the EU for next year, including the bio-fuel proportion. His problem appeared to be that his car fuelling pipe kept blowing back and triggering the handpiece shut-off,  so he went back to the supplier and complained.  Not so, says the supplier after trials, so back to the supermarket.

  • Toyota IQ (2008 - ) - IQ - my thoughts 26 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I was fobbed off with an answer that the car has NCAP 5* - it may have but that doesn't test rear end shunts. Entry IQ is £9,500, premium £10,500. Our Aygo was £7000. Worth it? You decide!
  • Bemused by Insurance Companies 17 Nov 2006 (Forum)
A quick look on moneysupermarket found loads of insurance companies which offered cover at around the lower £400's mark which included protected NCD and changing to business insurance. I called my existing company back and spoke to a call centre in Deli and asked what I had to do cancel my policy.
