Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2002 GT TDI 130 - first impressions. 18 Jul 2010 (Forum)
It's a good looking car which drives well, and is stupidly quick in real world driving conditions. The build quality is a step up from the Renault, but not as good as the reputation suggests, and the handling better than expected. It's also frugal, and for us will be cheap to maintain unless something expensive goes wrong. Yes, it's two years older than the Scenic, and yes it's done 20,000 more miles, but it's had the big cambelt service that was going to set us back £600 on the Renault, and it feels more "together" and actually newer. -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Test Drive - Impressions 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Nevertheless, I can drive around the problem in the Mondeo where it's a thousand times worse, so I don't see any problems here, but SWMBO thought the engine a little disappointing low down compared with the Renault unit. It's not quite as quiet as the Renault unit either, with a distinctly "rumblier" quality at higher revs, but again it's nothing excessive. Kept on boost, and in the middle of its rev range, it's an absolute gem, and the gearbox is just delightful to use, but if we were seriously looking, a drive in the 2.0 model would be required though. -

Moscow motor show stars 29 Sep 2018 (Forum)
But despite being designed specifically for the Russian market (after consumer research), it seems Renault may be thinking of taking it further afield. And while i am no fan of the SUV, i can certainly see it being successful in this country (obviously depending on prices), as it is a nice looking thing. -
any - another one of those 'which car' questions! 5 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Facelifted Focus 1.6 petrol (i.e. 2008) Had one before, liked it, great driver, safe, proper car, mpg wasn't great Toyota Yaris (1.33 petrol): seems very sensible, ticks all the boxes, horrible looks and apparently caves in a bit on rear end shunts (but good 5* euroncap). Mazda 2 Seat Ibiza (1.4 petrol) There's a 2010 facelifted Renault Clio (I know, I know!) 1.5 Dci 86 Dynamique for sale locally that looks great, with terrific mpg, great safety, nice spec, but a used Renault diesel, with only 3 months warranty, do I need a good smack on the back of the head with a rolled up newspaper for even considering it? -

The figures broadly reflect the typical shape of the UK car parc, with Ford occupying the top three places, followed by Vauxhall, Rover, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen and BMW. Ford Fiesta was found to account for seven per cent of all claims during the period, followed by Ford Escort (6%), Ford Mondeo (5%), Vauxhall Corsa (4%), Vauxhall Astra (4%), Rover 200 (3%), Renault Clio (3%), Nissan Micra (3%), Volkswagen Golf (3%) and BMW 3 Series (2%). -

I think we may have a shortlist 8 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I still want one, but not sure if I could live with the Mk3 golf lookalike interior that is out so out of date. Also might be a tad out of budget unless I get one that's been ragged to death. 3. A Renault Megan diesel. Probably the only car I could afford new as the car supermarkets are full of them. Just a bit concerned about Renault reliability although it ticks all the boxes for safety and is a little bit quirky. 4. -
Colchester dealerships - The merry go round 23 Jul 2025 (Forum)
Kia ( Now Glyn Hopkin ) have moved up to the top of Ipswich road by the A12 to the ex Honda site and recently joined by Glyn Hopkin Nissan who have moved out of a constricted site in the town which was shared with Renault and dacia all of which were Glyn Hopkin. Volvo have moved to take up the huge Skoda site. -
Dacia Duster Essential Mk2 - Rusty parts newly bought Duster (incl. Exhaust) 27 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Hi (Sorry to be back so soon with another question on the forum) I've just bought a 2022 Duster with 18k miles, from a Renault/Dacia dealership. For various reasons, I stupidly didn't have a good look underneath until I got home. Now that I have, I can see that the exhaust is quite rusty. There's also some rust on one of the parts where the back wheel connect (sorry, don't know the name). -
Help me choose from these used MPV cars please :-) 1 Mar 2023 (Forum)
Ford S-Max Ford Galaxy Citroen C4 Grand Picasso VW Sharan Seat Alhambra (I can't locate any though) Kia Sportage Or early: Berlingo Multispace Peugeot Partner Tepee Renault Kangoo Please shout up if you think of other cars that will suit, in my price range. (Though an estate won't give me the inner height I'd like) Mileage isn't too much of a worry, as long as there's great service history. -
Tiny turbo pops! 8 Sep 2022 (Forum)
We’ve heard loads of cases of Fords now infamous Ecoboost 1.0 motors going pop early doors and many a tale of woe regarding Renault/Nissan’s 1.2 TCe engines failing catastrophically. I’ve just had a friends 2015 Vauxhall Corsa 1.0 Turbo with 35,000 miles up suffer engine failure. The wee car has been neglected, she just looked confused when I asked when it was last serviced. -
Shape shifting electric city car? 4 Aug 2022 (Forum)
If it got stuck in performance mode it wouldn't be too much of a problem, but in city mode with that 25km/h limit, much more so. I really like the Renault Twizy and this evolves that design further, along with addressing the glaring problem of owning one somewhere with a climate like ours (not being fully protected against the elements, and no heater). -
Dacia Spring - What is going on with Dacia and safety?! 17 Apr 2022 (Forum)
Renault and Nissan seem to hit modern safety targets relatively high and constant, not so with Dacia. I was reading a thread here about the Jogger and the Spring; both sound like interesting cars, although for different usage, so I had a look at their safety record, and it seems something is going amiss with this brand. -
Nissan Note - Diesels 2 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Do peeps have any experience, knowledge or thoughts on Nissan diesels that they wouldn't mind sharing? I think the Nissan diesel as fitted to the Note is made by Renault, but that's literally all that I know about it. I haven't looked at a post 2013 plate Note nor driven one, but its an alternative that someone suggested on another thread and one that I'm becoming quite interested in. -
Diesel engine life 17 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Hi All, A few quieries on diesels i would be interested to know your thought on 1/ I know i may be opening a can of worms here but id be interested to know peoples opinions on a fairlt typical / reasonable life of a modern diesel engine. ?? I have heard of more conventional diesels - pre common rails- doing 3-400k ( peug, citroen and renault laguna) but id be interested to what sort of milage a new style - eg common rail- diesel engine would last for before major engine trouble 2/ Do likes of fuel pump, turbo, injector, head gasket failure usually happen on a diesel engine before main engine wear?
