  • 2002 corsa electric power steering 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
On driving away it soon recovers. When it fails it loses total power assistance in both directions of the wheel. It shows itself first by stiffening up at full lock but then fails completely. As soon as you drive away it seems to recover.
  • Test drive new Navara with 174bhp 24 Oct 2005 (Forum)
According to the bumf, the 2.5l engine has 174bhp and 296lb/ft torque at 2000rpm. Essentially, the same as my 4.2 12v LC. So how come it was like driving a small engined car? The engine revs went up and down as it accelerated through the gears, it felt like it had no torque, and needed revs all the time just to keep up a reasonable rate. At one time just accelerating modestly, it was doing 3500 rpm.

Anyone else got any thoughts? -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • What happened? 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Head over to the hard shoulder get out, tyres fine, no visible signs of any problem. Decide not safe to stay where I am so decide to drive gently to the next exit (about 2 miles) and call AA. Drive away gently, wheel wobbling furiously as before, wobble subsides. Pull off motorway drive around a bit, all fine, get back on motorway and complete journey of a further 30 miles.
  • Drive the Deal offers 23 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Just been looking at the Drive the Deal offer on the Yaris in the News section. The prices look quite attractive, with the 1.3 T3 only working out at about £300 more than the 1.0 in 3-door spec. However, there is no facility for part-ex of your existing car.
  • Grating brakes on MX-5 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I really can't accept that all MX-5s make this noise when braking and cornering - if they did, no-one would buy one after a test drive! Has anyone come across anything similar or have any bright ideas? TIA Siadwell
  • Citroen Xsara Clutch/Gearbox 27 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I always found it difficult to get a smooth gearchange, especially from 1st - 2nd and put it down to my driving... I'm not harsh on the clutch or anything, it just seems to be the way it is. As of today, the gear change has become extremely smooth (like a really good auto) yet I haven't changed my driving style at all.
  • T-boned estate 16 Oct 2003 (Forum)
This afternoon one of my colleagues T-boned an Escort estate, chap driving the Escort pulled out of a side road directly in front of him, leaving him no time to stop. Happens everyday somewhere I expect, fortunately, today, two shaken drivers, two shaken passengers, lots of bent metal, smashed glass and a few deployed air-bags but no serious injury.
  • Rant about police and traffic reporters 10 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Maintaining a steady 75 - 80 here is a recipe for disaster. It is called matching speed to road conditions 2) It is a natural reaction. Driving, particularly on M-ways is a pretty mind -numbing experience. The brain NEEDS new sensations if it is to function at its best, fight off tiredness. It is totally ludicrous to expect anybody to drive past a major shunt without taking a peek Rob P And then there's the local radio stations that flick on the RDS so that you can listen to two minutes of oh-so-daring and mildly suggestive chatter between the presenter and the traffic girlie.
  • Rear view mirror...why bother? 13 Dec 2002 (Forum)
In a car the rear view mirror serves no purpose other than provide the drive with security in knowing what's *behind* them, but not necessarily what is *overtaking* them. 3. Rear view mirrors are, in my view, redundant in a car with decent door mirrors. 4. The only use for the rear view mirror is letting you know that the white van/BMW/mercedes driver behind you is driving on full beam, is 2 ft from your rear bumper, and does not consider your overtaking the slow lorry at 90mph to be fast enough.
  • My first points! 21 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Sent off the l was driving at time of alleged offence bit. According to the bumf, what 'normally' happens next is they will make conditional offer of £60 fine and 3 points. I just hope its not 6.... thing is, l can only get 6 points in my first 2 years of driving and l get an automatic ban.
  • Rover Sterling - Engine noise. 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Yes, you guessed right, I am informed by the garage that it wasn't a problem with the replacement engine, but the drive plate which had developed a hair line crack! and thus not covered by the warranty. Costs to do this job are estimated at £1500 I understand that the drive plate is what the starter ring is attached to.
  • excellent police driving 31 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Not often I see driving on the roads worthy of a creditable mention but.... Just drove down the A1 through North Yorkshire tonight, 9pm-ish so fairly dark, traffic light, me pootling along at about 70/75mph. Pulled out to overtake a couple of lorries and saw a pair of lights appear behind me going considerably faster.
  • Clonk-clonk-clonkin Focus 19 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Since collecting it from the dealer there had been a stange "clonking" sound coming from what sounds like inside the dashboard ahead of the driver which only occurs whilst driving. It's not continous, only seems to occur whilst steering or driving over bumpy road. I took the car back twice and the garage claimed they couldn't hear anything, so I paid for an RAC Inspection which confirmed there was a problem and pointed the finger at the the front anti-roll bar bushes.

  • Volkswagen Polo IV 2006/7 - Auto Gearbox any good? 12 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I've had Polos in the past but only ever manual. Do you know what type of auto box this is (CVT, DSG etc) and what it's like to drive? My usual commute is around 1 mile local road, 40 miles motorway and 10 miles A road.  Would the Polo automatic box be suited to that type of driving?
