SEAT is highlighting not just the cash benefits but also the environmental benefits that spring from the much-anticipated scrappage scheme, announced in last month’s Budget by Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling and coming into force today. The scheme, which sees some car buyers qualify for a £2,000 contribution towards a new SEAT in exchange for a commitment to scrap their old vehicle, should mean the removal of thousands of relatively heavily polluting aged motors from the UK’s roads. -

With PCP deals accounting for the vast majority of private sales - around 60 per cent - an ever increasing number of cars are coming onto the used market at three-years-old, meaning there's more choice for second-hand buyers. And it's small cars that dominate. The standard small hatchback accounted for one in every three used car sales - fuelled by the popularity of the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa - but it was SUVs that saw the biggest increase in last year, up by 17 per cent. -

Peugeot to change car naming policy 25 May 2012 (News)
Previously the first digit denoted the ‘segment’ in which the vehicle was positioned, so smaller cars had a smaller number – the 107 is the smallest model, the 508 the largest. Next, there was a zero, or more recently two zeros, followed by the car’s ‘generation’ – so the 307 was replaced by the 308. -

Surprisingly Dear at Auction Today 29 Aug 2003 (News)
Now we’re just days away from 53 reg, which is bound to bring a flood of fresh stock onto the auction scene. But from some of the prices achieved today you wouldn’t have believed it. The old shape 31k mile 2000W Clio 172 in the photo started sensibly enough at £7,000, but then went on to sell for £8,050. And for a lot of other cars it was much the same story. A 100k mile 2001X new shape W203 Mercedes C220CSD Classic manual kicked off at £9,000, but then you couldn’t see the auctioneer for hands as it rocketed away to sell for £13,650. -

Brooklands Classics Day 24th July 2016 Gallery 24 Jul 2016 (News)
I first met Rockin' Roy and his '59 Pontiac Bonneville back in 1992, just after he'd bought the car, so it was fantastic to see him and his car again 24 years later, still in the same fantastic condition. All steel full fendered '32 Ford 5 window coupes like this sell for upwards of $40,000 in the States so it was good to see this one, slammed at the front and mildly hot rodded with Edelbrock heads and a twin carb manifold. -

A Grand Monday: Montego Mayfair 28 Apr 2014 (News)
I've always been pretty ambivalent about them, finding their styling 'spiky', and all a bit matronly. Compared with its rivals at the time, the Sierra and Cavalier, it also seemed a little bit olde worlde, which was not what the market wanted in the fashion conscious, super-slick 1980s. But of all the cars I've criticised for being an under-achiever in my time, it's the Montego that always got me the most flak from its fans - they'd tell me how brilliant the car was, and is, and that I'd definitely wrong on this one. -

There were some low bids at BCA Blackbushe today, but prices of most late low mileage cars remain very firm. 15 month old Ford Focuses dont seem to want to drop below the £8,000 barrier with £9,050 paid for a 13,000 mile 99V Ghia TD with steel wheels; £8,900 paid for a 36,000 mile 99V 2.0 Ghia with alloy wheels; £8,400 paid for an 8,000 mile 99V 1.8Zetec with a/c; and £8,200 paid for a 19,000 mile 99V 1.8 Ghia with steel wheels. -
Used market to flourish with September plate change 28 Aug 2013 (News)
"Typically the September plate change brings an influx of ex-fleet cars and dealer part-exchange vehicles into the auctions, as nearly every new car sold triggers a chain of used car sales too", said Tim Naylor from BCA. "We are expecting to see a wide range of used cars coming to auction in September across many makes and models and including everything from low mileage and nearly new cars to prestige and company cars at two to three years old.” The influx of new stock will be welcomed by Britain’s venders, with many indicating that shortages were beginning to harm trade. -
