  Hundreds of classic diesels could be crushed if new scrappage scheme goes ahead 23 Dec 2014 (News)
  Mayor of London Boris Johnson is calling on the Government to launch a new scrappage scheme initiative aimed at  getting rid of polluting old diesel cars – putting ‘youngtimers’ such as the Mercedes-Benz 300D (W124) at risk. The call is backed by the the Environmental Audit Committee, which is recommending a diesel scrappage scheme to help tackle a ‘public health crisis’ in air pollution.

  SEAT is highlighting not just the cash benefits but also the environmental benefits that spring from the much-anticipated scrappage scheme, announced in last month’s Budget by Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling and coming into force today. The scheme, which sees some car buyers qualify for a £2,000 contribution towards a new SEAT in exchange for a commitment to scrap their old vehicle, should mean the removal of thousands of relatively heavily polluting aged motors from the UK’s roads.
