Today's auction cars 22 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Also, for a soon to be one year old Previa, in a crap colour, with no V5, £15900 sounds like a fantastic deal for the seller. If the finance company was selling it because it was a repo, then doubly so. -
missing logbooks 4 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Been to the local auctions tonight, looking for a cheap car. Seems to be rather a lot that are put through by finance companies without documents - particularly logbooks. But what are the implications of that? Firstly in terms of the car's history (are they simple reposessions?) and then practically; how easy is it to get a new logbook. -

Any - Secured Car Loans 24 Dec 2022 (Forum)
They want no risk of potentially damaging it on the way home before the deal is done. My main concern is making sure I don’t buy a car that has finance secured against it. The seller is advising both he and the dealer will be able to confirm it was paid for by bank transfer, so I think that rules out the risk he has finance through the dealer. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus 10 plate - when to change timing belt? 30 May 2019 (Forum)
When I bought the car (from a dealer) it was on 82k but I got no service history so I don’t know if the belt has been changed or not. I’m humming and harring over doing it as I have the car in finance until January and thinking of getting rid when the finance is done and it’s worth very little to start with. Only thing in the back of my mind is I’m going on holiday to Kent in July and will be driving (I am in Gateshead) so worried of it going during the journey. -
Car purchase for future use - Opinions please! 13 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I would like all of your opinions please. After years of chopping and changing cars, buying cars on finance and shortly afterwards having the new car feeling wear off but still paying every month for the finance, at the end of last year this all changed! With the help and advice of SLO and others, I bought privately a lovely top of the range 2003 2.4 petrol, automatic Honda Accord with very low miles and full Honda history for a touch more than bangernomics money. -

Setting up to sell used cars 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi there, After a lot of research I have decided to use my knowledge of cars and finance to make a partnership with my brother who is a mechanic. We plan to buy a car a month, make any repairs, clean it up and sell it on for a small profit. Nothing too serious to start off with, just a bit of a hobby which we might take more serious as we go. -
Part exchange "retainer" 6 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I bought a Vauxhall Tigra brand new from a dealer on the 1st Sept this year. I part exchanged my Toyota yaris and I got £3,500 for it which was £500 more than I owed on the finance. The garage cleared my finance with Toyota and the remaining £500 was kept on a 'retainer' and this was explained to me as a sum the garage keep until they have looked over the car I exchanged and made sure it didn't need anything doing to it. -
How to buy a car 4 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Due to lack of suitable cars for sale privately, I feel that my fate will lie in the hands of the west midlands 2nd hand motor trade. I know pretty much what I want, how much I should be spending, how much I can spend how I will finance it etc., but am looking for tips on how best to peel back all the salesman's pink fluffy dice such that I pay no more than a "fair" price. I have picked up some bits of advice along the way... 1) start off with the idea that you will buy their finance (and warranty) 2) walk away 3) aim to be buying at a "month end" 4) when you have got as far as you think you will get, ask for tax, tyres, fuel, mats etc just before you sign 5) blah de blah What tricks can one best use to drive the deal down? -
Older cars at auction? 15 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Other than looking the car and its details over is there anyway to gleen more info about it? At BCA blackbushe there are lots of named sales (Nissan Finance, Black Horse finance and so on) do these give any indication of car origin and potential quality? Would something like the BCA approved lots be a good bet? Also the last time I stopped over on the way to work I noticed alot of 'bangers' grouped in an inchcape sale. -
New fiesta? decision time 17 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Iam trying to dissuade my 81 yr old father from trading in his 5 yr old fiesta for a run out model. He is attracted by current incentives (note it is total cash cheaper to take finance at 3.4% with £1000 cash back than 0% finance offer). The cars on offer have all the extras that he doesnt want or need! Alloys to damage, A/C to confuse so wont use (hence mtce liability), radio that he wont understand, electric widows to fail....... -

Buying Rovers - whats the risk? 20 May 2005 (Forum)
- Im presuming there'll be risks with availability of parts at some point in the future but that this risk could be off-set with the devaluation. Whats the thoughts on whether (and when)it could be a good buy or motor finance suicide? ta x -

Renault Clio - Collection procedure on end of PCP term 14 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Hi, The Renault financing agreement states that there is a £100 collection fee in case the customer cannot return to one of their UK auction sites (location to be advised later) at the end of the PCP term. Is it typical amount charged by lenders?
