Hello all,
obviously, we all know whats happened to Rover (sob!) but I've always fancied a 2nd hand 75 series (in gold, of course!) - Im presuming there'll be risks with availability of parts at some point in the future but that this risk could be off-set with the devaluation.
Whats the thoughts on whether (and when)it could be a good buy or motor finance suicide?

Be sure you get an absolutely *spanking* example and don't compromise since there will be quiote a few about. Buy privately and driver a *very hard* vbargain and you really could be quids in. Doubt parts availability will ever be an issue though...just be highly selective.

Im not plain stupid, just a special kind of stoopid.

From HJ's auction report 18 May:
MG/Rovers are now on the floor. A 32k mile 03 reg MG ZT 190+ Tourer sold for £7,100. A 53k mile 2000X Rover 75 1.8 Club SE sold for £3,100. And a 34k mile Y reg Nightfire red Rover 45 1.8 Club with a/c, alloys and sunroof sold for just £2,700.
Residuals with be bad, at least for a while, it seems.

Given that:
:The rover spares division was sold off before the fall and is still a going concern
:There is a large number of rovers on the road, a large enough inventory to make a spares business worthwhile for some time
:The chinese look to be shipping all the tooling for 75's abroad and will turn them out by the gazillion for their domestic market
How much of a spares problem will there be in two years time I wonder?

One of my mate's customers was bragging about the fact he had just got a top of the range Rover 75 (diesel) for £10,999, which both thought was a real bargain.
My mate was somewhat surprised when I told him his customer could have done a lot better than that.....
