  • Citroen C2 (HDi) - Need REAL mpg figures for Motorway Commute 5 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'd like to know whether people are actually meeting the 70mpg figures I've seen thrown around?  Also looking at Renault Clio and 206 if anyone can give me any further advice? Budget for the buy is £3000-£4000. Have found relatively good cars of each model in that budget. Reliability is also a factor as I'll be piling on 20,000 a year commuting.
  • Which small/medium car has most comfortable ride? 16 May 2011 (Forum)
It used to be said that the English blamed the road and the French blamed the car for a rough ride.   What is the modern equivalent of 1960s Renaults/Citroens with squashy seats and soft shock absorbers?  As French roads are now far better than ours, they do not seem to make suitable cars any more!
  • saab any - Another Going Going GONE! 24 Apr 2011 (Forum)
The French have too much national pride to allow their industry to go under for the moment, but the prices of the current Citroen Peugot Renault ranges are hurting them, especially if compared to the realistic korean pricing. After that all the european mass producers will fall one by one! Sad really, because the new 9-5 looks quite stylish.
  • Any - Why so many gears? 31 Mar 2011 (Forum)
In the past week I have been driven in two (turbo) diesels; a Passat and a Renault (?). Both of there were around 2l and had six speed gearboxes. With modern technology they seemed quite happy at 30 mph in 6 th . This set me wondering if they are so torquey why do they need six gears?
  • Vauxhall Zafira - 3 kids in the back: Zafira or Grand Scenic? 5 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Any pointers on ones that will get three car seats accross the back? With about 3.5k I am looking at either a Zafira 1.8 with 20k on the clock or a Renault Grand Scenic 1.9 deisel with 60k on the clock, both of them around 2005. Anyone with any views on either? Would a deisel carry the extra miles better or should I go for the lower mileage petrol car.
  • How much labour charge to replace a wiper motor? 13 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi, My wife's cars wiper motor needed replacing a few days ago and we've just received the bill.  The car is a 2001 Renault Megane and we went to a local indie that we use to service the car.  The bill has come in at £55 plus VAT for the labour which to me seems rather excessive.  I believe it's just a couple of bolts that hold the motor on, a 'click-on' electrical connector and the removal of the mesh at the back of the engine bay.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - vauxhall zafira is the 1.7d a reliable engine 13 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I am interested in vauxhalls new lifetime warranty and despite the problems encountered it is a good 7 seater. I am also considering a grand renault scenic.
  • Unusual or confusing car problems / defects. 11 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The queueing for fuel thread reminded me of a problem I had many years ago. I had a Renault 4 which would often misfire, and in freezing temperatures would not run. The misfire was caused by water in the fuel, and when a slug of water froze in the pipe from the tank to the pump, no go!
  • Smallish automatic for about £6k 21 Nov 2009 (Forum)
We are now thinking of a 1.6 Nissan Note automatic, she has driven one of these as a hire car and it drove well, but she would like something a bit less "utilitarian" and more chic. She would like something a bit different, no Fords, Renaults or Peugeots? Anyone have any ideas?
  • Do you have to be thick to buy brand new? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
apart from the cars that come into the super rich category, ie RR, Bentley, Bugatti/etc - is it worth buying a brand new Ford, Vauxhall, Renault, Pegout, Fiat, Chevy, Dodge Suzki, Kia/etc/etc, when these cars lose at least 33% within 3 - 6 months? I always buy six months+ old - my merc - was9 months old - 9k on the clock - saved almost 9k Btw, I'm talking about Brit reg cars with 3 or more years guarantee. ========= PS: Brand new models from mass car producers will obviously hold their value better for the first 6/12 months
  • To buy a facelift or not to buy. 16 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Would it be wiser say to buy a facelifted Mazda 3,-current not the new Mazda 3 'facelifted' 2009 version - rather than a new Megane III, and then wait for the facelifted Megane III ? Somone commented that Renault let their customers find the problems through driving and then make adjustments accordingly. Do all manufacturers do the same?
  • Which car for kids has three large back seats? 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Have been warned off Fiat (liked the size of the Multipla), Opel (have a Zafira that only gives trouble), Renault. Which cars are reliable - particularly 2nd hand. How much mileage should I be looking for (realistically?). Any advice much appreciated!

  • Aluminium or steel sumps better? 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
My nieghbour, who attracts motoring disasters like a candle attracts moths, grounded his sump whilst driving along a farm track, splitting it and so requiring the services of a nice AA man. The saga of trying to source a replacement, plus the difficulty of removing the old one ( renault megane ), this still being played out, has made me wonder why this was made out of aluminium alloy. A steel sump would at the best sustained a dent, and at the worst, a easily welded tear, so are alloy sumps a modern phenomenon, and are there any practical reasons for specifying them such as better heat radiation and less weight?
  • Air con on Laguna 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Don't know if anyone can give me any advice, this is the first time I've posted on this site!! I have a Renault laguna 1.6 (2000 reg) and lately I've noticed the air con is not working properly. In the warm weather recently the chilled air comes through very weakly & intermittently, even with the fan on full blast, there is also an intermittent 'screaching' sound from the engine compartment when the air con is on.
  • Clio problems 29 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hi there, I hope someone can help. I have an old Renault Clio. Just recently I've noticed everytime I drive over something in the road there is a metal sounding rattling/clattering noise coming from underneath somewhere. I assumed it was the exhaust but when I took it to Kwik Fit they said there was no problem with the exhaust.
  • Water Cooled Turbo`s 21 Mar 2007 (Forum)
.>>> When one considers all the problems with seized turbo bearings/failures that have been noted on this forum over the years from Renault, Nissan & even Honda among many others, it seems odd that manufacturers have not adapted water cooled turbos more widely. It makes one wonder if they don`t factor in design weaknesses, to keep their main dealer workshops busy.
  • Volvo S40 Diesel 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I really would like to know how reliable are they and are they economical. I read on Parkers that these cars have got Renault Diesel engines, any thoughts on that?

  • 2001 megane auxiliary belt problem 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
hi i'm ashamed to say i know nought about cars. My y reg 2001 renault megane went clunk today while i was driving and my steering went stiff. I was close to home so flipped the bonnet up to see what i now know is the auxiliary drive belt off and two round cogs loose in the compartment.
