Skoda - Skoda - VW's problem child 17 Jan 2008 (Forum)
The superb TDI V6 (27000 pounds) bombed as folks would rather pay for more for a Merc or BMW and the Accord is better value at 23000 pouns Result - Skoda is regarded as a prestige badge - something like what Volvo and Audi were consideried in the early 80's. Now VW want to come in. They launched the Passat 140tdi (assembled here ) for 33000 pounds. Now they want to bring the Jetta in. If they want to pull hierarchy rank, the Jetta will cost more than the Octavia 2 and be as pricey as an Accord. -
Paid a deposit without seeing the car! 10 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Was browsing through autotrader over the weekend looking for a manual TDI when this particular 3 litre manual A6 S line with 19 inch wheels caught my eye.The car a Sept 2005 with 28k miles on the clock.. Not one of my thoughtful moments since I called up the Audi dealership and without seeing the car , paid a deposit on it, subject to my being satisfied at the time that I see the car and test drive it! I have since then moused around on the internet and most reviews seem to not recommend the S line since its too firm in comparision to the SE spec! -
Define underpowered 24 Apr 2007 (Forum)
So I just wonder how we define 'underpowered' these days. Living in Germany years ago with an early 100bhp Audi 100(not a small car) I would cruise comfortably at 100mph on the autobahn. The 100bhp Mk1 Golf Gti(admittedly a light car) was a sensation. For many years, almost every week, I have undertaken the 160 mile journey from Central London(Westminster) to the mid-Wales border and then back to London. -
Cadillac BLS. What a Pointless car! 11 Mar 2007 (Forum)
GM is ruining Saab with a tarted-up Vectra, a Dame Edna Everage on its last legs and a gargoyle-like American SUV. Saab is in desperate need of an Audi A3 rival, I wouldn't even mind if would turn out to be a tarted-up Astra, because the new Astra is actually a very good car. But NO. Instead, the idiots at Detroit decided that Cadillac should have an A3 competitor. -
New Honda Civic (Diesel) 20 May 2006 (Forum)
It looks too big and to "Americanised" with all the chrome trim etc. I also do not particularly like the look of the Audi A4 Avant. A Merc. C class estate is quite appealing, but is probably a bit too pretentious for my job (I'm a self employed specialist electronic engineer and work on-site a lot) and the smaller diesels are not over fuel efficient. -
Car finance getting too much. Help. 10 May 2006 (Forum)
Evening all. Got a bit of a problem. As you may or may not know, my mate bought an 02 plate Audi TT 225 a few months ago for around 16 and a half grand. Ok so far. But, he's self employed and, since purchase, work's slowed down a fair bit leaving him with £750 monthly payments for the car and the insurance. -
How did you spend your Easter? 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Promise of cheap money, too: half at 0%, half at 5%. Finally (Monday) to Mexborough, and we bought a 2001 Y Audi A6 tdi 115. up on miles (116k) but lovely grey metallic with black cloth interior: like sitting in an expensive business suit. Drives beautifully, and the mpg looks promising. Now looking for an excuse to pop out to Harrods for a pint of milk! -
Citroen Saxo coolant leak 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
She said that they mentioned something about being unable to attach some clip or other properly. At this point I'd like to big up Mark Tempest Autocentre (Ind. VW Audi specialist) of Welwyn Garden City. Maybe I have a honest face, but when I nipped round the corner to them to beg a 5 minute loan of a pair of pliers to reattach the spring clip, they gave me not pliers but the correct tool for operating these clips, and reacted to my enquiry as though I was their best mate! -
new battery and one-touch windows. 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Now I have to hold the button down to make the windows work! Nothing in Haynes about this! Any ideas? REPLY The VWs & Audi's you have to re-program... this means closing the drivers window fully (I'd do this with ignition in ON position (but not started)) let go of the switch. Again pull to close and hold for 4-5 secs... -
Convoluted relationships 11 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Wonder what the quiet and restrained French unions will have to say about that, as it looks like PSA are about to join what Audi have done for years in Hungary with TT and engine production, and what MG Rover appear keen on doing with the old Polonez factory in Poland. It looks like the predictions of a few years ago that before long the number of global players would be counted on one hand, with brands little more than marketing tools, is proving correct. -
Diesel - not so cheap ? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Well, I have been doing some calculations for replacing my Corolla 1.4: On 30k p.a. driving over 3 years, so the car when I sell it at the end hasn't gone over 100k, I compared a Corolla 1.4 T3 3 door to a variety of diesel mid-size hatchbacks - Corolla, Seat Leon, Golf, even Audi A2 with the 75bhp Tdi. All the diesels costed in between £11.5 - 13k from on-line brokers, the 1.4 Corolla at just under £10K. The result - even with the superior fuel economy of the diesels, not one of them were actually cheaper to run, since even the A2 only saved £1K in 3 years - the others even less. -
Xenon headlights 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
It's just a shame VW want to charge so much money for doing a simple job because the lever is not easily accessible. Similarly in my Audi S3, one side is simple, but the other requires removal of the battery to access the lever! -
Bleeding brakes 19 May 2002 (Forum)
Could it be anything other than the master cylinder, or could the fluid be passing the sails on the piston of the master cylinder, but not escaping? How much will a dealer cage, or Volvo / Audi mail order parts supplier for a master Cylinder, or do Halfords stock master cylinders, so should I try a scrap years / Volvo breakers? Thanks Paul. -
Nissan X-Trail (2007 - ) - J D power 2009 xtrail 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
That's good isn't it? Servicing. The old xtrail was no dearer than my Audi and i didn't think that was dear! Not had a service on the new one yet, but i expect it to be dearer, but that's due to the pdf filter, but wouldn't a new A4 have one? So gentlemen, i am not sure which car JD is talking about, i am convinced is two different cars, but at any rate its been put at position 94 out of 101 !! -
Protection from rear impacts 13 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I was reminded of that traffic-cops type TV programme on several months back where a young woman (the driver) had tragically been killed when her car (was it a Peugeot 206?) became sandwiched between a truck and an Audi estate. The truck was big-ish but not an HGV, and it turned out its driver had been fiddling with a cellphone, and realised so little of events that he thought he?d crashed into the Audi. I have read that it? -
Cars with automatic gearboxes - ...fuel costs up, time to teach 'pulse and glide'? 18 Jul 2021 (Forum)
......On our Peugeot 2008 the overall long term fuel consumption (mainly Mrs F) is around 43mpg, but when I drive, it can be over 47 on the second trip computer. On our automatics (ZF 6HP in the Audi, EAT6 in the Peugeot, it is so simple to flick between D to N to coast down hills and up to roundabouts etc., despite being sternly warned in the handbook never to do so! As long as the engine is idling there is no risk of non-lubrication of the gearbox, and if the engine is revved slightly from idle depending upon speed, re-engagement of D is smooth. -
Any - Brother and law retirement car 25 Jun 2021 (Forum)
He is a teacher and was living close to the school, so he didn't use a car to get to work but have a very old knackered V reg Audi A4 that he uses for the occasional 500 miles trip to Lincolnshire. His kid left the nest, so it's just him and the Mrs. Now that he is retiring, he is thinking of replacing the A4 with a smaller new car that will last him over 15 years or until he or the car will push daisies., this is his most important criteria. -
Advise for new/used car 26 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Hi everyone I'm not much of a car person had my current Audi A4 Avant diesel (2001) for over a decade and its cloked up more than 225,000 miles and still works fine but the new London diesel tax coming in a few months force's me to look for something which would comply and not have to pay the daily charge I have no idea what to get I was looking at RAV4s and Honda CRVs both as diesels until I read the thread on here which says Toyota and Honda are targets for catalytic teft much more than any other brands now really don't know Overall clock up about 12,000 miles a year. -
What is the point of a Hybrid 25 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Whist on there I looked at some more modern examples of similarly sized non-hybrid and the results were interesting. Audi A3 1.5 150 PS, 45 mpg, Hyundai i30 1.4 140 PS 43 mpg, Focus 1.5 150 PS 44 mpg. Based on those figures you would have to be mad to spend the best part of £30,000 to save a thimble of fuel. -
BMW X1 2016 SDrive - Help with BMW x1 Sdrive Diesel 13 Feb 2016 (Forum)
I really like the X1 a lot and after doing loads of research on other models, my only other alternative is Audi A3 Saloon Auto (1.4 Petrol). The emissions are low, the mileage is good plus it is a petrol. But ya, it is a saloon and not the same as X1. So I really am in a fix, any suggestion/advice will be very helpful.
