Diesel vs Petrol engine for mostly short journeys 22 Jun 2015 (Forum)
However, my concern is that most of the time the car will ferry me to work and back in stop/start traffic for half an hour - then a weekend run every two weeks from Leeds to Middlesborough or Pontefract - with the occasional long run on holidays. I guess my question is whether a diesel engine would be suitable for the short weekly commute (would it cause the engine any issues). -
Peugeot 306 Hdi - Throttle sensor circuit 2 fault, keeps coming back 20 May 2015 (Forum)
Does the ECU do some kind of auto throttle when idling in gear to avoid stalling the car? Could it be injection related? The car runs otherwise fine I would appreciate anyones thoughts on this . Is the TPS easy to get at to remove and clean out?> Thanks in advance for any help -
Volvo XC90 - running costs of a Volvo XC90 15 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Hiya, I am looking to invest in a XC90 as an upgrade to my falling apart Seat Alhambra that I currently ferry my 4 children around in. I have... -
Mazda 3 - Engine hesitation 6 Jan 2015 (Forum)
It is less of a problem when the car is cold as the revs are raised by the auto choke. I can "override" the factory set idle speed to mimic the cold running speed, but this of course totally upsets the ECU and so isn't a way forward. I understand that the throttle and clutch are linked by microswitches and was wondering if there was a fault with either/both of these switches, or maybe something in the ECU itself. -
306 but now in a boat - Cam shaft breaking on a xud 1.9td 28 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi I have put 2 xud engines in a boat. For some reason I have broke the cam on one engine so have swapped that engine with another. Running ok at the moment. Now the other engine has done the same. Both engines were low mileage. I have run the engines now for at least 40hrs. The engines are sitting straight upwards where as in a car they would sit more on their side. -
Peugeot 206 1.4 2003 - ECU Failure Peugeot 206 14 Jul 2014 (Forum)
So the ECU is not showing these faults ~ as ECU dash light stays off when engine is running and shows no faults indicated when connected to a diagnostic tool? Has the ECU failed ? -
Volkswagen Bora - Brain teaser.. 52 plate Bora 1.9 TDI wont start 18 May 2014 (Forum)
No engine oil in it or veg oil present. With the dreaded easi start hastily sprayed in to the inlet the engine will run but it is running on the easi start. As soon as this is removed the engine stops. I think i'm getting close to the problem. Maybe very close (tandem pump??). I cant see it being all 4 injectors especially as there are no fault codes. -

fiesta 1.4tdci - Ford fiesta 1.4tdci eac fault seemingly cured 8 Dec 2013 (Forum)
It would misfire and an eac fail warning would come up. I had a friend pump the primer while it was left to idle and it continued to run until he stopped pumping the primer. I popped the primer out if the bracket and allowed the primer to follow a less restricted routing as the pipes seemingly were kinked. In no time the car was able to idle without pumping the primer. -
Vauxhall Corsa C - Undefined Error code on diagnostic test 30 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I have just replaced my engine in my Corsa C 04-plate, engine code Z12XE. The mechanic that did it is very knowledgable and reliable. The car runs spot on, however the mechanic can for the life of him figure out why the emissions light/engine management light stays on. He connected it to a diagnostic machine and it kicks out an Undefined ("U") error code. -
Renault Clio II 1.2 Petrol '99 - Clio 1.2 has intermittent starting issues 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)
This car frustrates. It will run for 3 weeks with no problem, then all of a sudden it has this issue. It will initially start to choke whilst driving along, which is the sign of things to come. It will then rev itself to high revs, then low, then high, then it will stop completely. -
Vauxhall Zafira - Zafira faulty codes P0725, P1335, P1631 8 Mar 2013 (Forum)

Volkswagen golf 1.4 tsi petrol dsg 2009 model - misfiring rough engine and blaring exhaust 31 Oct 2012 (Forum)
My 2009 Golf has had a problem with starting it after it has been run then parked for about 1 hour or so, it sounds very rough judders revs go up to 1200 and exhaust sounds very blarring and loud with lot of fumes (white smoke) this has been going on since new. This can last from thirty seconds to three or four mins and then when you drive off it has no real power and kangaroos a little for a short distance, It never does it on cold starts apart from when in warm weather its normaly after being run in winter or colder conditions. -
VW Golf Mk5 - Coolant level issues 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
And this has gone on and on, with no apparent signs of coolant loss - just the level sucking down when the engine is run, plus loads more pressure than you would expect, in the expansion tank. If you open the tank cap immediately after the engine has been running for 30mins plus, as you undo the cap air bubbles and coolant start coming out of the overflow pipe section join - surely this should be sealed? -
Vauxhall Corsa, 2007, 1.2. - Stalling engine 18 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The oil is a 10/40 semi synthetic put in by the supplying garage last May. I then took it on the motorway for a 70mph run of 7 or 8 miles each way and there was no problem at all when I had done this. The car gets mixed motoring of urban running and some out of town and motorway work. I was thinking of trying to block off part of the radiator with cardboard on the outside but this is harder than it used to be with other cars I have owned. -
LPG on the A1M 25 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Coming off on the A14 I found a Shell at Fenstanton so thats where I filled up. I can do up to a 180 miles between fill ups but why risk running out. If you do run LPG with a smallish tank you neeed to apply a lot of forward planning peeps. Google is your friend! Now prices. Oop north you lucky people are paying 69.9 a litre. -
Mitsubishi Shogun 3.2 Diesel LWB Auto. 2002 - Marginal Cooling Problem 20 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The towing limit for the vehicle is 3300Kg & I've not tried loads of this weight for sufficient distance to show a problem. Running solo, the temperature never varies whatever the speed or road conditions, even if run for 5 hours continuously. Can anyone tell me whether this should be expected. If not, where should I begin looking for a cause. -
hyundai getz 1.3 automatic - poor petrol consumption 25 Aug 2011 (Forum)
It's a nippy little car, but it drinks petrol as if there was no tomorrow. It is regularly serviced, and for much of the time I use it for local runs with the odd long distance trip of 80 to 120 miles. I am lucky to get 25mpg on short runs, and the long distance trips hardly make any difference. I am not heavy-footed -- I had a Toyota Corolla 1.3 automatic (with a three speed gearbox) for ten years and the mpg never fell below 32 and long trips returned 36 to 40.
