Also models from quite a few other manufacturers feature in the bottom 10 - including Proton, Mitsubishi and Nissan - and none of these achieves a residual value better than 25 per cent. All from glasses of the values of all three-year-old cars available in the UK - over 6,500 model ranges in total. mmmmm makes you think -

Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - Dealers not interested in sales!! 6 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Treated by the sales staff like a leper, make a meek enquiry for a discount on sticker price with no trade, and was laughed out the place. She is now fed up and decided to keep her old car. An easy sale lost, unbelievable in this financial climate. Yes the car is still sitting on the car lot, but cause the way she was treated wouldn't take it if they gave her it for free. Manufacturers and dealers can't complain about sales while they continue to do this. -
Dumbest modified car you've seen 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Every time I see it have visions of the owner trying to sell it, and potential purchaser asking to look in the boot. Also keep seeing a Volvo 440 with twin 'spud launcher' exhausts, and an old Nissan Almera resprayed the same colour as David Dickinson with ott bodykit and huge spoilers. -
Classic car insurance minimum age 14 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I have been using the forum for over a year now, and find it excellent, only now have i decided to register. I also have a question. I am 19 years old and have a Fiat Grande Punto, and 2 years no claims with Tesco insurance. I would like to insure a classic Land Rover, but so far it has been so expensive, and all the "cheaper" classic car insurance policies all seem to have a minimum age of 21. -
MGTF alternative 3 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I know the MX5 is probably the sensible alternative, but I just don't like it as much. Is there anything else to look at in that price range. I've had plenty of troublesome old cars (including an MGB for 17 years) and want something more dependable but still fun. I would be mainly a 'summer car' and probably do about 3-4000 miles a year. Any suggestions welcome -

RF Junior - First car 21 May 2007 (Forum)
Ok well RF Junior is looking for his first car. Insurance (for a 17 year old) is the prime mover here, Basically it means 1.1 106, 1.1 saxo, possibly polo. He has £800 pounds to spend (1200 saved for insurance!) so we are looking at 96,97,98 Saxo 1.1's and 96, 97, 98 106 1.1's three favours please guys, 1/ what problems do I need to look for on these (50-100k miles mark) 2/ If you see one nearby up for sale in your street , within 30 miles of woking, tip me the wink please. 3/ Tips for insuring young *male* drivers. -
Sliding on black ice - car related ? 2 Jan 2007 (Forum)
- despite the tempertaure being well above freezing, hit a nice spot of icy road - back end did a nice double swerve ... good job the road was clear! What was interesting was how what car you drive can really affect your chances of coming out of this OK - my old Corolla would have ended up in the nearest bush ! But my 02 Focus was a real star - slight back end wobble then got itself back in line - I'm wondering how much the fully independent multi-link rear suspension has to do with this ? -
Sneaky Focus question, you will love it! 4 Nov 2006 (Forum)
My wife makes me laugh!! I am getting her a newer car while all the time we cry poverty to her parents!!! Anyway, because we cry poverty, they will question why a 2000 Focus has gone and been replaced by a 2005 Audi A2!!! My wife has a cunning plan, tell them that the car has mechanically failed in some way and it is actually cheaper to invest in a new car than repair the old one. -
Peugeot 306 Battery Charging 28 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It's years since I have had to get involved with mundane things like battery charging. You know the story...car 2 - 3 years old... it's time for a new one! Anyway, I am now the proud owner of a 1997 non-turbo diesel and a lovely car it is too. It seems a bit slow to turn over when starting and I'm thinking that owing to it's short journeys, the battery might want a charge. -
New car choice (including Mondeo!!) 9 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I'm going to be getting a new (well, 6-18months old) car soon and the choice has come down to Skoda Octavia, Mazda 6 or Mondeo. Will probably be a diesel (for the first time) as they're by far the most common, at least in the better specs/trim, and the price difference isn't actually that huge. -
Best way to finance a 13K Toyota Avensis 3 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I currently have a Toyota Avensis on a contract lease which I intend to get out of by purchasing the car out of the contract. I am estimating that Toyota will offer me a figure of around 13K for the car. Its 9 months old and done just over 26000 miles as a rep-mobile!!! The car, for you info, is a D4-D T4 2.0 Diesel. -

Another DVLA Question 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
How long does it take the DVLA to update their records when notified of a change of ownership? I sold my old car about 4 weeks ago and sent off the log book the next day with all the necessary bits filled in. Over this weekend, I received the tax reminder to replace the disc at the end of June. What's rather embarrassing is that the buyer actually raised this when he collected the car. -
Disintegrating wheel arches on my fiesta 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Thank god I found this site, though a bit too late this time. The story so far (brief version): Taking driving lessons, mate sold me his old car for 50 quid, car chassis is sound, rear valance and both wheel arches disintegrating, mot runs out next month. Q: how hard is it to fit new wheel arches to rear of my rustbucket, will it require the services of an expensive mechanic or can novices (like me)get to grips with the epic adventure.Or shall i just take it straight to scrapyard, have limited budget and no real experiences of car repairs. -
Golf 150 bhp 1.9 diesel - smoke 29 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Car back at dealers, but alas my friend paid in cash when he dropped his old car off -
BMW 330D - rattle 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a 330D SE saloon. 5 months old - 14,000 miles - :)) It really is the perfect combination of power, torque and fuel economy......... From brand new the car has suffered from a slight metallic rattling noise at tickover - you can only just hear it inside the car - but is quite audible outside the car. -
Scrubed Metallic Paintwork 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I am toying with the idea of buying a very cheap 2000 model Jaguar XJ8, overall it's in fine condition but the bootlid and roof has what I would describe as a lightly scrubed finish. It is very difficult to describe and is only visible when fairly close up to the car. It appears as though the metallic lacquer has been possibly damaged by a car wash. I have seen a few relatively new metallic cars (under 5 years old) with this, sometimes around the wheel arches. -
Car badges! 7 Oct 2004 (Forum)
They look asiatic or far eastern in style. 3. A horizontally extended representation of an eagle, not dissimilar to the old eagle of the third reich and somewhat art deco in style, but in blue. -- Roger. (Costa del Sol, España)
