Honda Civic SE 1998 - electrical probs 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I have a low mileage 1998 Civic, which after flattening its battery, and having it recharged, and refitted, will not do anything. Even the drivers door window will not close now. As far as I can tell, the only thing working, are the 4 way flashers. I tried the central locking, but now have to use the key. -
mondeo lights 6 Nov 2006 (Forum)
A couple of wires go to the housing. It is the near side of the car so access is terrible due to the position of the Battery and Fuses. Any idea what this is, or the clicking sound. It seems to go all the time the lights are on. It carried on with the new bulb. Is it serious. I have tried to wiggle it around but it didnt stop. -
Starting Autos in N or P - which is best 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
In a manual I always dip the clutch in neutral, so not spinning the gearbox when starting to save motor/battery. In autos so far I have always started them in park, to no ill effect so far. Never yet stalled one, so never had to start on the go in neutral. -
Renault key card repair 18 Jul 2006 (Forum)
It was slow & careful work but if you were going to throw it away, anyway, it's worth the risk. The tip is to think of all the electronics, including battery slot, to be in the lower half of the key, ie NOT the half with the switch dimples. Best of luck. -
New AA advert 20 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Can't just a few of them turn up wearing rocket packs like the RAC? Not a tool box in sight. No patrol van to charge a dead battery or tow the car away. What does it all mean? Hawkeye --------------------------------- Bewildered in a strange land -
Are ECU logged faults 'timestamped'? 16 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Does anyone know if faults detected by ECUs are 'timestamped' in any way? Obviously time/date would require a battery-backed system, so maybe that's out - but recording mileage (electronic odometer) would be pretty easy. The car is a 2000MY Volvo S80. Cheers. -
Peugeot 406 rain sensors wipers 15 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My previous 406 used to work fine (very effectively) I wonder whether all of these fancy electronic systems ( including the climate control) are separate units or are all controlled by a systems CPU, in which case, disconnecting the battery might re-set everything? -
BMW 316i - cutting out 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
While driving the car i seem to lose power and the rev drops really low and i cant get any speed. When i pull up the engine cuts out and battery light comes on. I then start the car and it has real trouble pulling away and then the same problem of being in gear and having trouble moving. I filled up the car with petrol and it seemed to stop the problem. but after 4 days the problem came back. -
Car radio in 1993 Vauxhall Corsa 22 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have just been given a 1993 Corsa from my girlfriend, however the radio requires an unblocking code after the mechanics did something during its MOT (I think with the battery?), my girlfriend does not have the code and being a student starting a new term cannot afford to pay someone for one, and I cannot obtain the serial number of the unit either because I do not have the correct tool to remove it to look. Can anyone help please? -
Rover 414sli (M Reg) Starting Problems 12 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Oddly it'll then go for another few weeks starting perfectly! Does this sound like the starer motor itself is needing replaced? I replaced the battery a few months ago due to this same problem hoping it was a dead cell or something, but no joy (obviously!) Any help would be great. Marc -
Peugeot 406 16v Petrol. Poor starting. 9 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have noticed that the wifes car as above which is a 16v petrol model now needs to be cranked over for about 5 secs before it fires. The battery is ok and the engine is spinning ok. Ive replaced the spark plugs and done the usual visual checks. Having checked the Haynes manual there are several electrical connectors to the airflow meter including some sort of heater for cold weather. -
Escort 1.3 carb 1991 91AB 5 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Looking at the instructions it seems this can only be used on "conventional engines" as one lead connects to the battery neg and the other to the coil neg. How can I use this, if at all, on the escort. It warns not to be used on engines with electronic ignition systems. I noticed that there is a covered plug,2 terminals, within the loom in the right side of the scuttle. Is this for checking the ignition? -
98 xantia td cooling probs 5 Jun 2004 (Forum)
I then realised that the twin rad fans weren't coming on as they should- I 've just checked the 2 fuses near the battery which are ok so I assume that its a sensor or relay problem. Am I right and where should I start looking now? Many thanks 9000 -
'89 Audi 100 2.0E (5cyl RT) fuel prob 16 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Is it likely to be anything simple that I can check? Air in the system? Needs bled? It now has a flat battery thanks to the dealership. Overall not a good day. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks. -
306 meridian fluctuating voltage 14 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Temp gauge has also become voltage dependant, with increasing loads, (lights, heaterblower) causing it to rise. I assumed this was the alternator voltage reg but a test at the battery sees 14.5v stable with the engine running. Switching on absolutely everything shows no fluctuation in voltage with it dropping a tad to around 14.3V. Therefore what I want to know is, is there another voltage regulator withing the car? -
escort 1.8td starting problems 26 Oct 2003 (Forum)
i know similar threads have been put up before but the threads were so long and confused i struggled to get any info out of them. my escort 1.8td doesnt like starting in the mornings. i replaced the glow plugs last week and the battery is fairly new (6 months iirc). the engine trns over nice and fast and fires occasionaly but not enough to keep itself going. after a while (10-15 secs) it does start and performs perfectly all day. does anyone have any suggestions of things to try?? -
Peugeot 406 1996 Electric Windows 25 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Not being a Peugeot fount of knowledge (Ford’s my game mainly) I was wondering whether any of the fans of Gallic transport could help with this one: My father’s car has a problem where the drivers electric window on the one touch closure will go to the top then drop to half open. It is possible to edge it shut by tapping the switch. I have disconnected the battery with the window fully closed to reset the anti-finger trapping system, as per the owners manual, but it has made no difference. Does anyone know how to properly reset the system or what could be wrong? -
Another VW Sharan Misfire 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My 1999 VW Sharan 110 bhp TDi (red i) has a misfire ('coughs' on acceleration). So far I have replaced/had tested the airmass meter; new injectors; new fuel filter; new battery; have had dismantled and tested the diesel fuel pump and as a last resort changed the fuel provider and used a fuel additive (the last being a suggestion of Honest John's). I am loathe to part with the car as it goes well otherwise - is there anything left for me to try or will I be coughing all the way to the dealer via the bank for a replacement? -
Focus ignition warning light 13 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The car drives perfectly, as you'd expect, but every so often (particularly while going round corners) the ignition warning light on the dash will flicker on for about a second. The dealer has cleaned the battery connections and found one loose, which has been tightened. That doesn't appear to have cured the problem however - and the biggest problem is the worry it's causing my father as the handbook says to drive immediately to the nearest dealer, which he is inclined to do. -
Jump leads advice wanted 7 Jan 2002 (Forum)
A well-know high street motorists' store is advertising in their winter advertising leaflet a lead with a cigar lighter plug on each end which is supposed to be used instead of jump leads to start a car with a flat battery from the cigar lighter socket in each car. Compared to jump leads this device hardly looks man enough for the job when one considers the power needed to turn over an engine. Has anyone has any experience of this device or know if it is likely to be any good as it seems much better and lighter than carrying a set of jump leads about.
