The following is placed anonymously at the request of someone who wonders if anyone here can help. Epsom man in car smash ? as he chases his Mercedes The victim of a daring car theft risked injury as he leapt into his wife\'s car and chased after the thieves who snatched his £70,000 sports car. But as he tried to box in the stolen Mercedes SL55 the thieves crashed into the pursuing car, leaving both vehicles badly damaged . -
1999 Omega 2.5 V6 engine rattle at 40K. 5 Jul 2004 (Forum)
He acknowledges that it is not right, and guesses that the ECU mapping could be to blame, but says that on the late Omega's the mapping cannot be altered. I am further annoyed by the fact that he told me the car is overdue for a cambelt (it has now covered 44,000 miles). This should have been replaced before the car was despatched with a Network Q warranty and service surely. I have had no luck with this car it has needed a new exhaust back-box (replaced under warranty) and two new headlamps because of water ingress (again, under warranty)- even the drivers door is showing signs of rusting from the inside along the bottom. -
Private sale goes bad. 14 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Have I any liability. He has told me to await a letter from his 'family solicitor'. I have a signed receipt stating the car is sold as seen. Also he has had the car 4 days and will have covered around 200 - 250 miles in the car since purchase. He also said that the cars bodywork is not in excellent condition and that was what he expected. -
DS the early years 28 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Cars they were unable to fix were, if possible, towed away under cover of darkness save anyone seeing the new flagship as unreliable. But the issues themselves were numerous. Hydraulics, predictably, caused many headaches, leaking all over the place, including into the radiator. -
Audi A3 - Driving Another Car, Uninsured, Possible Penalties 13 Nov 2012 (Forum)
So, as I am unable to be without a car for work, I went and bought a second car which would allow me to drive it while my car was in the garage getting fixed for over a week. It also meant once I got my car back from the garage, she could use the new car. -
Nissan Pathfinder - Bought Car, Gearbox failed within 8 days... 19 Nov 2014 (Forum)
On talking to the warranty company, I have been informed that the maximum single claim is £2000, leaving me some £1000 out of pocket. Given I had the car for less than a week when the problems manifested themselves, and the assurance from the garage who conducted the diagnostic check that this is a problem that the vehicle has had for some time, do I have any legal route for getting the dealer to accept part or all of the remaining bill above what is covered by the warranty? -
FIAT 500 - Fait 500 clutch problem 5 Aug 2013 (Forum)
The AA returned it to the seller's servcing department and the clutch assembly was changed out under warranty. Got the car back and drove it myself for most of the time until 3 weeks later having covered only 43 miles, the clutch failed again, AA took it back to the seller again who advised that the warranty insurer wouldn't pay for a second clutch but we'd no choice but pay for it to be replaced. -
Citroen C4 Picasso 7-st (2007 - ) - 07 1.8 Problems with Water Pump & Manual Gearbox 13 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I noticed that there was coolant loss, after three trips to the dealers (two different dealers) a leaking water pump was diagnosed (that's been replaced today).... pretty poor in my opinion for a car of this age and miles. What is more worrying is an intermittent judder that happens when pulling away at about 1500 revs.... for example if you are pulling out of a side street and want to get out quickly the whole car judders violently almost like a really bad wheel spin (obviously without the wheel spin).... this seems to happen more when the car is hot. -
Complicated Insurance Question 26 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I honestly don't have a clue who will actually be the main driver of the car, which is remaining here. It certainly wont cover too many miles. It's really not worth letting her take it to London, given the excellent public transport on her doorstep - not to mention safety etc. -
Insurance sending me ga ga 22 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Insurance for him for about a week to drive from the UK to Greece. When he gets to Greece he will put it on his Greek car insurance. However it has proved impossible to get anyone to give such cover. I've had various options as follows:- 1). Register the car to my company with him and me as drivers with the only company that I can find that will give a years insurance which includes a years green card. -
Nippon pong remover 12 Feb 2002 (Forum)
It (and I quote) ?powerfully deodorises with microscopic particle tobacco smell filling the car, nuisance smell of airconditioner and smell of air-freshener stained in seats. Mildew and bacteria found in seats and mats and pipes are rooted up completely?. It costs the equivalent of under six pounds and is a tin containing a chemical sachet and a perforated cover, just like a regular car freshener. -
Which car next??? 22 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Basically I currently own a 2014 kia picanto 1.0, which I'm wanting to trade in for a medium sized car. Now I like the kia ceed, Honda civic and mazda 3 but I'm not sure about petrol or diesel and what kind of REAL mpg I'll achieve or even if the dpf or egr will give problems! Now I know petrol VS diesel has been covered a lot but never to everyone's circumstances... -
Peugeot 407 SW - 1.6HDi No Power, Black Smoke 18 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I also suspected the Turbo was at fault, so as money is tight at the moment I replaced the turbo cartridge/CHRA, while I had the car in bits I removed the DPF and gave it a good clean with a pressure washer and Mr Muscle oven cleaner. After putting the car back together it still has no power, still won't rev over 2000 (occasionally revs to 3000-3300 when warm) and lots of black smoke. -
2.0 VVT-i T25 - White Smoke Avensis 17 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi I have a Toyota Avensis 2.0 vvt-i 2003. It is a T25 model and has covered 78,000 miles. I have owned the car for 2 months now and have noticed there is usually white smoke from the exhaust. It sometimes gets a little better as the car has been driven for about 30 minutes. -
Citroen C8 - engine rebuild & now another big bill 5 Jan 2011 (Forum)
to cut along story short, my timing belt snapped 2 days before it was booked in to get changed :0/ had it towed to a garage (this was last april). they had it 15 weeks trying to rebuild the engine. finally get it back. 1st time i take it on a long trip (70 miles) 1 side of the engine drops because a bolt snaps. the aa tow it back to the same garage. i ask them to check the timing as the cover is dislodged. use it for another 1500 miles/5 months & now it has bent valves & they want another £1000 to fix it. it's out of it's 3 month warrenty given for the rebuild & the original bill was £1300. i can't for the life of me find my receipt & i'm sure if the garage ask me to produce it & i can't, they'll deny all knowledge of my car being in their garage. the garage owner is telling me that the problem has been caused due to the bad weather & that it was frozen but surely it shouldn't have left the garage originally without enough anti freeze in it. the car isn't my everyday car as i have a large family. we only use it for long journeys & i check the oil / water before each trip. i haven't had to top the water up so cannot have diluted the anti freeze that he should have put in after the enitial rebuild. it is currently at another garage as when i called the aa out the said starter motor problem. it goes to the auto electrics, new starter motor, still doesn't start but now 'turns over'. they send it to the garage where it is now & i owe them £150 for them to tell me bent valves. gutted!! -

Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 'Check Parking Brake' warning after pad change 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The handbrake cable was now pulled all the way in (it wasn't attached to the caliper at the time) and so when I came back to the car I couldn't pull the cable out. I re-started the car, disengaged the handbrake (by reaching the bite point and giving it a little rev) and then tried to extract the cable. I could only get around an inch out... no where near enough. -
Golf Mk3 1.8 Misfire under load 20 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Something I now remember is that when we broke down after driving through the puddle, it was very dark outside and while cranking the engine I could see an orange spark inside the ignition coil (behind its black plastic cover). Is this normal or a sign of a duff coil? Thanks for any help! Mike -
Merc "Can't find anything wrong" problem 15 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My theory is that the rear toe-in (which is about 14 minutes toe-in each rear wheel) seems quite significant when you look along the car - you can see the wheel angles - and with the fairly beefy tyres, if one wheel "unsticks" itself (i.e. loses contactdue to a dip, or hits a slippery surface (drain cover), the toe of the other wheel pushes the back end over. -
Please help me buy a van 21 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Having nearly finished renovating a property and having got through one clutch and some suspension on a previous car I really do feel I need to spend some money on something a little more robust. My requirements are: Load area to carry 8' x 4' sheet material (eg plaster board etc) Reliable enough to cover about 5k miles per year (I am keeping my car for work and family) Not too scruffy, nothing that a builder has wrecked.
