Testing your Brakes! 23 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Reading the thread about Audis stuck on your rear and braking etc, I just wonder if any others ever actually test and practise hard braking. When I say hard I mean HARD. I quite often find a deserted road, pick a marker spot, get up to a good speed and stand on the brake pedal as hard as I physically can. -
Volkswagen Golf V R32 (2005 - ) - 06 3.2 dual mass flywheel problem 10 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I understand that dual mass flywheel problems are caused by excess heat from slipping the clutch melting the compound holding the two parts of the flywheel together and that Audi (some have same part as the VW) is fixing low mileage cars FOC. Does any one else know about this? Thanks -
Are VW taking the mickey? 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)

BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 05 2.0 diesel heavy clutch pedal 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The only thing I am not happy about is the clutch paddle!!...its heavy.....fews days back I drove a 54 Plate Passat 1.9 TDI... 6 speed manual...also drove an Audi A4..2.0 TDI with 6 Speed manual transmission...if I compare these VW clutches with my BMW....they are very soft and smooth...I even got my car Inspected by BMW dealership in Surrey and they said that 'working' of my clutch is fine...i never said that i have some issues with the working of the clutch..it works fine....gears are engaging fine...no vibration but the paddle is HEAVY!... -
Skoda Octavia I (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.6 petrol - revs up at idle 25 Sep 2008 (Forum)
My dad's Octavia 1.6 petrol has developed a fuelling problem (multipoint injection, same motor as Golf, Audi A3, various Seats etc) About 10 days ago it started intermittently revving up by itself at idle to 4 - 5,000rpm, gearbox in neutral, foot OFF the pedal. It would shut off on the key, and then refuse to restart straight away. -
Scrape in Car park - hit and run ? 14 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Went to the local Audi showroom for a simple MOT and unfortunately as I was backing out , heard the L front bumper scrape the 6 month old A5's L back door. Stopped car , went inside , spoke to the salesman, who mentioned that this car was unfortunately a customers car and that he would come out and take some photos of both cars , which both of us did, also that he would contact the owner of the car and that he would get the other person to contact me with his insurance details. -
Stylish medium estate emitting under 175 g/km 10 Aug 2008 (Forum)
That presses all the buttons, front seats possibly excepted, but if necessary that could probably be arranged under the available options. I have tried to put them off Audi which is sure to be boring to their specification, although they could probably afford the RS4 or RS6 I might fancy in their position. Skoda and Volvo seem too unglamorous, although that might not be an insuperable problem. -
BMW 3-Series E90 (2005 - ) - Why no temperature guages? 9 Mar 2008 (Forum)
In my neck of the woods a zero or sub zero start is the norm for up to five months of the year. In that period I try to make very gentle demands of a cold engine. In my Audi I can monitor both the water and oil temperatures and avoid high loads before they indicate that the engine has reached operating temperature. Is there any form of indicator/warning, perhaps digital, in the BMW ? -
Ford Focus saloon (2005 - ) - saloon cars - whats the point..... 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I can appreciate that some of the larger british, german or japanese saloons (Bentley, Merc, BMW, Audi, Lexus etc..) are very nice places to be and have huge boots but what is the point of a Focus size saloon? Other things come into play like does a medium size saloon depreciate more? On the other hand, if less saloon cars are sold does this make them more sought after by people who still buy them? -
selling from home 5 Nov 2006 (Forum)
m looking for any advice or pointers: I am seriously considering starting a small business as well as keeping my current job (for now) selling cars from home. My plan is to sell more prestige cars in the 10k to 18k bracket (Audi?s, B.M.W?s etc). I have a detached house with a large drive so I would not be selling from a public road and I would only want one maybe two cars for sale at any one time. I am looking at making around £800 to 1k a car once every two weeks to start with. -
New Car for Aged Parents 19 May 2006 (Forum)
My parents are looking to replace my mum's somewhat elderly Audi A4. They don't have any particular cars in mind but a list of requirements to find the best match. The biggest problem with the A4 is the low seating position. Although they are both reasonably fit and healthy, the low seats combined with the twisting movement to get out of the car is becoming increasingly difficult. -
The watch con 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Whilst out this morning I called in to fill with fuel. On paying and returning to the car a gut in a black Audi parked at a pump opened his window and ask if I wanted a bargain and siad he ahd just finished a show and was left with a load of watches and didn't not have to account for them so if I wanted a £600 watch for say £100 then I can have one. -
New car chosen after much prevarication! 22 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I normally HATE autos, but this was so smooth I couldn't beleive it and it even has better economy than the manual! Runner up was the Audi A4 2.0T. Great engine, less company car tax and a better deal from the leasing company. BUT... didn't pass the "I want it" test when I saw it next to the Lexus in a car park. We were also impressed with the Volvo S40 2.4. -
25th Anniversary of the Airbag 9 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Has this been a betamax v VHS situation with all manufacturers going along the airbag route? I vaguely recall Audi having a system in the mind-80s that actually pulled the steering wheel and pedals away from the driver in an accident rather than exploding something at them! b) Is there a finite number of airbags to be had before the extra safety protection they offer is marginal? -
Opinions sought 23 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Currently driving lovely but ageing 98 Lexus GS. Bored now. Do I spend 14-16k on: 1999-2000 Audi A8 4.2 Quattro, solid, goes like a rocket 2000 - 2001 Jaguar S-type, nicer inside (to me), bit more staid As new as possible Nissan Primera T-spec As new as possible Honda Accord Executive Wait til Lexus LS430 is in price bracket (about six months now) Some kind of Merc about which I know nothing but there seem to be a few S-class about at that money. -
VW Dealers..useless or uninterested? 29 Sep 2005 (Forum)
I have narrowed down my lease car selection to an A3 2.0tdi sportback or a 130ps Passat Estate. The local Audi garage could not be more helpful & have given me two 24 hour test drives and plenty of information. The VW garage most local to me - didn't return my first two calls, I eventually got to talk to their fleet manager (explaining this was a company purchase, but that as we don't lease many cars, it would be bought from whichever dealer I chose in an attempt to keep him interested). -
USA tyre pressures same as UK? 21 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Seems very low, given my golf cab is 35 psi all round & a quick look at comparable weight cars like volvo convertible & Audi have 34psi. Sooo, are we talking the same definitions of PSI here? Not exactly quick either! Ho hum, like you can drive fast over here anyhow, but it would be confidence boosting if it were to change direction roughly when you asked it too & not give the feeling that the tyre are just about to roll off the rims. -
Power Steering - Volvo S60 3 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Bought an '04 plate S60 a couple of months back as a second car - first Volvo after a series of Audis and I love it. Smooth 5 cylinder engine with 5 speed auto and all the toys for less than a price of a 1 year old Golf.... anyway... After the 1st week of driving I noticed that the pipe coming out of the bottom of the power steering resovoir was leaking very slightly and was low on fluid. -
Weird A4 problems today... any ideas? 27 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Coolant alarm suddenly went off on my 98 Audi A4 tdi (180k) today, so topped it up immediately - no obvious leaks etc, so I just put it down to not checking it often enough. 60 or so miles later, it went off again, so I checked under the car to find water dripping out pretty fast - although it was impossible to see where from due to the guard that covers most of the underside. -
A3 v Golf GT Tdi v new Passat 28 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I have previously asked for, and received, alot of useful comments when I was considering my lease car choice. Having narrowed it down the Audi A3 sportback in 2.0tdi guise, I then stumbled across the Golf GT TDI which for me works out nearly £60 per month cheaper when you add things like metallic paint etc. Having driven the Golf I was impressed (basically the same car) but the fit and finish is not quite up there with the A3, but then should I be worried if ultimately I hand it back in 3 years?
