Google to build self-driving cars 28 May 2014 (News)
Google says that unlike a human, the self driving car can’t be distracted by a phone call or a song on the radio, plus it can be just as aware of what’s going on two miles away as it is of what’s happening directly behind or in front. Google says its aim is to help prevent traffic accidents, free up people’s time and reduce carbon emissions by fundamentally changing car use. According to the World Health Organization, more than 1.2 million people die every year in road traffic accidents but Google believes its technology has the potential to cut that number by as much as half. -

Thousands of petrolheads raise money for charity at CarFest 1 Sep 2015 (News)
More than 60,000 petrolheads made the trip to Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire over the August Bank Holiday weekend for this year’s CarFest South. The brainchild of Radio 2 presenter and Top Gear host Chris Evans, CarFest has raised more than £3.5m for BBC Children In Need since it started in 2012. Donations are still being counted from the two 2015 events, but the total is expected to rise to nearly £5m.
