£9,995 Civic Lead Price Matches Golf

Thu, 28 Mar 2002
The Honda Civic has become more affordable this month with the introduction of new entry level Civic 1.4i E, priced at £9,995 for the 3 door and £10,995 for 5 door. Both models are permanent additions to the range and offer a full specification which includes ABS brakes with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and Brake Assist, electric windows and central locking and are exclusively available in Milano Red, Eternal Blue Pearl* or Satin Silver Metallic*. (*Metallic paint costs an extra £265.)

The Civic Diesel also arrives in May.

Priced from £13,495, the 1.7 litre 100PS common-rail diesel powered Civic offers 0-60 in 11.2 seconds, a top speed of 112mph, a combined consumption of 56.5mpg and C02 emissions of just 134g/km. Honda expects to sell at least 3,500 to both private and business users during the remaining nine months of 2002.

As with the petrol-engine Civics, both diesel spec levels feature standard air conditioning, four SRS airbags and front seatbelt pre-tensioners; electric power steering, ABS brakes with EBD and Brake Assist, electric front windows and electric powered / heated door mirrors.

For the UK, the Swindon-built Civic diesels will be available in "S" and "SE" grades for the 5 door version – and in the "SE" grade for the 3 door. Following the introduction late last year of the Civic 3 door, Honda has improved some interior trim details of the Civic range.

Latest 5 door models now share the smaller diameter, thicker rim steering wheel, silver door handles and black fascia of the 3 door, while the SE-spec 5 door gains a softer, woven pattern seat trim which again matches that of the 3 door.

Both 3 and 5 door Civics now benefit from a matt silver dash centre panel which lends the interior a more fashionable and lighter air. Additionally, the SE grade gains an RDS CD tuner in lieu of the radio cassette previously fitted.

As with the petrol-engine Civics, both diesel grades feature standard air conditioning, four SRS airbags and front seatbelt pre-tensioners; electric power steering, ABS brakes with EBD and Brake Assist, electric front windows and electric powered / heated door mirrors.

The SE upgrade adds such items as a CD tuner, body colour door mirrors, peripheral alarm and electric rear windows for the 5 door. However, whereas the petrol SE models gain a sunroof, the diesels gain alloy wheels and a leather steering wheel instead.
