  • Peugeot 306 - Rear brake light/indicator earth fault? 12 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I have a Peugeot 306 (N Reg/ 1.9 Diesel) Recently it has developed a fault with the lighting. Everytime I brake the nearside indicators come on constant, and everytime I indicate left the brake lights flash! I have been advised that this is almost definitely an earth fault. However I have checked all the earths I can find (rear cluster in the 'c' pillar, under the rear seat near the seat belt mounts, and in the front wing, as well as what looks like a main earth in the engine compartment that comes straight off the battery.)

  • Honda CR-V II (2002 - 2006) - Premature wear of brake discs 28 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I did tow a caravan but this was well within the weight range stipulated by Honda and it is regularly serviced. Whether the fact I towed made any contribution to the brake problem or whether there is an inherent problem I do not know. Similarly, whether the new model has had any improvements made to the brakes I do not know but potential purchasers need to be aware.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.9td meridian - unrecognised warning light 12 May 2008 (Forum)
hi quite recently i have found an odd warning light come on it seems to come on when i brake though wether it indicates a braking problem i cant say as my brakes still seem pretty responsive. the light comes on just above the temparature gauge and is a bright red i stil do not know what it is as it is an odd shape that i cant describe and it will only flash up momentarily so i cant get the detail either but it is a good size, when driving the car it all seems fine nothing out of the ordinary. although service is overdue by about 4 months. i would greatly appreciate any help with this knowing next to nothing about cars. i have checked the brake fluid oil, water levels etc and all are fine. thanks in advance for any help with this matter the car is a 99 T plate and has about 115000 on clock radiator was replaced at about 98k and temp seems to be fine.
  • SEAT Ibiza II (1993 - 1999) - 97 Car pulls right on acceleration left on braking 2 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I was planing on new springs and shocks but for sometime now the car steering wheel pulls to the right when i accelerate hard and left when i brake (hard). I just had springs shocks replaced as i was planning and the shop told me the car checks out steering column, brakes f/r bars etc all is ok. I took the car to an other shop and explained the situation and when they checked it they said they couldnt find anything wrong with it.
  • Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 03 1.8 petrol; brake discs and pads 2 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Was gonna have it done locally but after having the car serviced at erm... a well known independent garage and them greasing but not tightening a loose drivers door hinge, I have lost confidence and the main dealers charge too much. I know that you have to be careful not to damage the brake fluid pipes on the callipers and that you need to be careful that the fluid doesn't overflow when you put new pads in and that you have to pump the brake after each side. Have watched someone do it on other cars in the past but im scared something will go wrong.
  • Proton Persona Coupe - h/brake & caliper 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Thanks for all your help when i last asked about the brakes, since then drove it with the bonnet open so that took priority in the fixing stages. Just taken the wheel off the back to look at this handbrake situation and why the right rear brake doesn't seem t work and when i spun the actual disc with no wheel or handbrake on it caught at about 2 places round the disc, making a metal on metal noise, it makes this noise when driving obviously, when the handbrake is on it doesn't stop the car but you can't spin the disc anymore with your hand.
  • Scrap it or repair it? 23 Sep 2004 (Forum)
SWMBO's Punto* has just gone in for it's MOT and has failed on a couple of points; front brake imbalance, front brake pipes corroded. "That's not too bad" I hear you say - however, apart from that, the brake master cylinder is leaking, the rear brakes need replacing, there is a fuel leak (on the fuel line near fuel filter), the fuel tank holding straps are corroded and they'll need to be replaced if the leak is to be fixed as the tank will need to be removed, there is quite alot of corrosion in general to the underside, the rear shocks are knackered etc. - you're starting to get the picture!
  • Seat Toledo Rattle 25 Apr 2004 (Forum)
As I said, when you kick the wheel, you hear what I'm sure is this rattle. If you wedge a screwdriver between the brake caliper and one of the holes in the ally wheel and then kick the wheel = no rattle. If when driving, as soon as you brake the rattle goes. Let the brake off, and the rattle returns. I'm feeling it must be something to do with the brakes but nothings obviously loose.
  • Kwik Fit 6 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Yeah I know, its like marmite, you either like them or hate them. I took my car to 3 branches and enquired about their "Free safety brake inspection".Here's what I have been told and wonder if who were right. KwikFit 1: I mentioned that 2 weeks ago my car was serviced by a specialists garage, and was told several parts needed replacing on the braking system. Therefore, can I have a 2nd opinion and have the "Free brakes Inspection" and a written quotation. They said sorry we cannot carry out the inspection, because the specialists garage will know what to replace so you're better off going back.
  • clean wheel discs? 17 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Hi, Can anyone point me in the right direction for the plastic discs that go on the inside of your alloys to keep brake dust off them? I seem to remember that my brother had a set years ago but I haven't seen them since, is that because they effect brake cooling or something else? Thanks. Steve.
  • Citroen c5 estate hdi 2003 - Retracting the front callipers 26 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Hi I'm trying to change the front brake pads but the calliper on the passenger side will not retract. The hand brake is off and I have removed the cap on the fluid pot. Is this because the calliper is seized or am I missing something. Thanks Darren

  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 2005 - 1.9 TDI - Long ''spongy'' brake pedal 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Sounds very like air trapped somewhere. Have they tried it with all hoses clamped? It could be air in the ABS modulator, or a faulty modulator itself...
