The Motor Show 8 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I managed to get to see most of the stands that I had planned to (MG, TVR -Excellent, Jaguar -too small, Porsche -what are they thinking of, Ford -women in air filled hamster balls, Subaru -looks better, James Bond -XKR the star) But what happened to BMW and Mercedes Benz? Are they too good now that they don't even bother turning up now? -
Selling a car and speeding tickets. 8 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Im in the process of offloading my current car before its time to pop over to Germany to collect the new BMW. However, a thought came to me which someone here may know the answer to. What actions can (should) you take to reduce the risk of a potential buyer who's having a test drive in the motor you are selling, going past a speed scamera above the limit and setting the thing off? -
Blind spots 28 Mar 2002 (Forum)
What is it about modern design that means you must have an enormous blind spot caused by the driver's side A pillar? Just about everything I have driven recently has been awful, the Beetle takes the biscuit but the BMW 3 series is pretty bad too. The Golf is terrible too now I come to think about it. I'm 5 foot 10 so I'm about the 50th percentile, guess there must be lots suffering worse than me. Makes that Volvo concept with see-thru pillars seem like a good idea. -
Those bloody catalytic converters again 23 Jan 2002 (Forum)
My cat has just failed - '95 BMW 735. The car in fact has 2 cats - 481 miles each. The non-franchised garage can do the job for me but says he can only get standard parts. Does anyone know a cheaper solution (other than leave it until it drops off). -
After speeding, comes parking... 29 Aug 2001 (Forum)
Philip Peters, 60, said he was stunned to find that workers had winched his Peugeot 406 off the ground - along with a neighbour's BMW - so that they could paint the lines in. Traffic wardens working for Westminster Council later saw his car, which was parked outside his shop in Queen's Park, west London, and issued a parking ticket -
On-road drag racing... 26 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Police said Jagesur was racing along a section of the M19 towards the N2 when he lost control of his BMW Z3 and slid into the middle island before slamming into a bridge pillar. Police officers at the scene of the crash said several "spectators" reported the BMW had been racing with another vehicle at the time. -

Hi, I have an issue with a local garage. My 320i petrol had a cylinder 3 misfire so I changed the coil and plug but no joy, took it to a garage who... -
Is this a scam,If so why is it being allowed? 23 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Third ad in as many weeks, each of them exactly the same in content , only difference being different phone numbers, advertising a BMW 6 series 630 on a reputed used car website(am I allowed to mention which one?) Anyway this particular ad stands out because its the cheapest price on a used 630 at present in the UK. Which was exactly the same in the previous 2 advertisements. -
Lots of cool retro cars on tv these days 14 Apr 2017 (Forum)
(possibly an early 7 series BMW too, or did i imagine that?!). Although, due to not having netflix, i have not watched the (apparently) excellent Scandi-noir drama 'The bridge', i have watched the Anglo-French adaptation, The Tunnel (both series). -

faulty car sold, unhappy with repairs 13 May 2013 (Forum)
I asked for it to be repaired under warranty telling them of the problem (had OBD diag report) and it's almost certainly carbon build up. They had it for 10 days at a BMW garage (his mates garage basically) and added engine cleaner in the fuel and changed the spark plugs and returned it with 160 miles extra on the clock. They said this had worked, there was no need to remove the gasket and there were no other problems. -
Tyres Optimised for Ride Quality 12 May 2013 (Forum)
My 2004 BMW E46 320d Touring is not jarringly uncomfortable, but on 205/55/16 Michelin Primacy HP summer tyres it could be a great deal more compliant. I have a set of Michelin Alpin A4 winter tyres on steel rims for the car, and their ride comfort is amazing, albeit with a slight penalty in fuel consumption. -

Honda Jazz/Fit (2001 - 2008) - 08 1.4 Alternator Voltage 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I believe the alternator upper limit should be set at 14.2 +/- 0.2 volts as seems to be confirmed by my checks on another car and my BMW motorbike. Since my accessories had previously worked faultlessly on the previous Jazz, my Omega and BMW motorbike I concluded that the new Jazz is faulty in respect of the alternator voltage. I have communicated this, and the amount of my financial loss (with evidence of purchase costs) to the Honda dealer at Oxford from whom I bought the car, but they haven't even bothered to acknowledge receipt of my letter. -

Used Car - Audi A4/3 Series/Saab 93/VW Passat?? 10 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My wishlist of features are 1) as close to 60mpg on the motorway as possible 2) good noise insulation 3) an enjoyable/sporty(ish) drive given that I have around 8k to spend here are a few options I've considered - BMW 320d, ~65k miles, ~02 reg I'm a bit concerned about reliability of these though, given that a lot of people have been having problems with the turbo on this model... the other concern is that I'll be putting a lot of mileage on a car that's got a fair few under its belt already - Audi A4, ~60k miles, ~02 reg same concerns with adding lots of miles, but also think they drive may not be as good as with the BMW? -
MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - '06 R56 Needs headgasket replacing. Will it be ok? 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
It all started off with a horrible diesel like rattle at cold start up, the dealer replaced the cam tensioner under warrenty, this had no effect and the problem continued, however to replace this the high pressure cam driven fuel pump had to be removed/replaced, My second trip to the dealer was to have this replaced as it was leaking post cam tensioner replacement, at the same time I told the dealer the diesel rattle sound at cold start up was still there, BMW tech reps were called in, they said they had seen this on the early build R56 engines and to replace the engine. The engine was then replaced, everything was perfect, then after 1500 miles travelling down the motorway the radiator pipe worked its way off due to the mechanic not putting a clip back on the pipe, this led to the water exiting the engine, As I was under pressure for work purposses I had to continue my journey another 25 motorway miles, I made it to the destination where I was met by a BMW tech, they towed the car back to the dealer and gave me a courtesy car. -
Golf GTi MkV 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Road noise is high but not as jiggly as I expected in these wheels - not my idea, but now I've seen them they are OK. The dual climate is more difficult to set up than the BMWs I've owned, not quite happy with that. The car's computer is rather confusing, again compared to the set up on the old shape 3 series and I honestly prefer the iDrive. Not come anywhere near thrashing it yet but there is a nice gruffy exhaust, otherwise runs silently. -
elderly 520i, cheap 23 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have today gone all the way to Weybridge top look at an elderly first-shape BMW 520i. I can get it very cheap. I don't know yet what MoT or licence it has (I drove it but fairly typically didn't even look). The engine and as far as I could tell the gearbox were sweet as a nut.
