Having not missed a beat for years, my 20 year-old, 210k-mile Focus is finally beginning to cost money, so I think it might be time to retire it (a very...
  • Trip computers/MPG calcs - how accurate? 4 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Having just bought a nice newish car which has a built-in computer that amongst other things, tells me the MPG of a trip, I was just wondering how accurate these things are? I haven't got around to doing a real comparison to the old-fashioned way yet, so the thought occurred to me that knowing how computer thingies can sometimes get over excited, could this one too?
  • Skoda Fabia - Parking Sensors 15 Nov 2015 (Forum)
I have just exchanged my 2004 Fabia for a 2012 model. I previously had rear bumper sensors on the old one and I propose having them installed on the new. With the new car I can see nothing of the front of the car at all from the driving seat, which has made me consider sensors on the front bumper too.

  • Toyota RAV4 XTR 2007 - osr suspension RAV4 13 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Toyota dealer replaced Shock Absorber to no avail but stated it could expensive to locate cause but car was safe to drive having checked out the suspension. Local garage replaced anti-roll bar links. Still not cured. Mileage 52,000 in 8 yr old car which was perfect until now. It is very unsettling despite assurances from dealer.
  • Ford Fiesta 2010 1.6D Econetic Manual - Ford Fiesta 2010 Gearbox failure 11 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Anyone else had problems with a Fiesta gearbox. Car is less than 4 years old, 38K miles, full Ford service history. Unable to get into 1st gear and dealer has diagnosed a replacement gearbox. Car is obviously out of warranty but a gear box should not fail at this age/mileage.
  • Toyota Auris and Auris HSD - Brake disc wear and corrosion 26 Jan 2014 (Forum)
So why has my car done the opposite? Is it possible the brake ratio front to back is incorrect? Is this set by software or a mechanical system? The car is used daily and does average annual mileage.
  • Ford Focus 2010 1.6 (Petrol) - Focus Autobox Question 27 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm looking at Focuses around the 3-year-old mark to replace our ageing 2001/Y. Does anyone have any view on the auto box coupled with the 1.6 petrol? I like the car, but the auto concerns me, I've seen reports of problems with them... is it asking for trouble to look at an auto on these, and just be picky and stick to a manual transmission?
  • volvo c70 - tyre stepping 21 Aug 2012 (Forum)
is it really normal for a car that does no more than 7,000 miles a year to need a full set of tyres EVERY yearly service? Yet again my dads car supposedly needs brand new tyres "as they are on the legal limit". I cant help feeling that the garage are taking the mick (especially when they want to charge over £180 per tyre).
  • BMW320 M Sport - advice please BMW320 M Sport 19 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I would welcome some comments and thoughts. I have a 8 year old BMW320 M Sport and the turbo has blown.  It looks like it will take about £2.5k for a garage to repair the car (new turbo and a range of other parts).  I estimate that the car is worth about £4k and I'm wondering if it's worth the money given that I'm going to replace the can in August.

  • Volkswagen Passat - 1.8 non-turbo engine 25 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Hi, About five years ago I had a Passat 1.8 as a courtesy car.  I enjoyed driving it more than the 1.7 diesel Astra I was having attended to.  The loan car was an R registration. This forum has put me off modern diesels.  So, if that 1.8 petrol engine is still around, I would consider keeping an eye out for a good used Passat, three to four years old.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta Coil Spring 1 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Long time lurker, first time poster   My mothers 12000 mile 5 year old Fiesta has just suffered a broken coil spring while sat on the driveway, the car has always been main dealer serviced and was bought new. I see from the net that this is quite a common failure, is a contrubution from ford for the repair work likely?
  • Audi A4 - Aluminium trim (brightwork) 21 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have purchased recently an Audi A4 almost 4 years old (Reg. Oct.2006) While it is in good condition generally, the brightwork which I understand is Aluminium (not Chrome) has discoloured in places with what appears like a milky or while paint mark. A friend said the car may have been frequently washed in a car was and this was the cause of the problem...Can anyone suggest a remedy to restore the brightwork ?
  • Volvo S60 2.4D - High mileage buy 31 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Have looked at a used Volvo V50 1.8S, good, low miles example but worried it might be too small. have now seen, online an 06 Volvo S60 2.4D (the old 163bhp D5) for under £5.5k - but it's done 98K miles. The car looks superb, has FSH, but I've never tried a car with such high miles. Am I buying a load of trouble?
  • 1st service at main dealer 4 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Afternoon everyone. I have a Citroen Picasso 11 months old and coming up for its first service. I was about to book it in when by chance found the following on the net. http://www.servicingstop.co.uk/ Seems a bit to good to be true, they have over 750 garages nationwide, promise to pick up your car from home then deliver back after service. including a wash and vac they use genuine parts and will not invalidate you car warranty.
  • Ford Focus III (2008 - ) - 08 1.6 wet passenger side foot well 9 May 2009 (Forum)
I have a problem with water coming into the pasenger side foot well and soaking the carpets. The car is only 9 months old but I want to avoid taking it back to the dealer as it is such a faff and there may be a simple solution. After reading the post on the Vauxhall it set me thinking. The car has no sunroof and as it is relatively new I would doubt if any seals or drains were perished, the water is rain water as it is nice and clean.
  • National Driving School - Privacy Glass 20 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I must be getting old and a miserable so and so to boot. Today I saw two 58 Reg metallic silver motoring school Focuses (Focii?) belonging to that chain once claiming to be the fourth emergency service. The learner driver cars had dark tinted back and rear side windows.

Hi all, I have a strange tapping/knocking noise coming from what i believe is the gear box or clutch, It only happens when your in gear and driving, it will stop when the clutch is depressed or the car is not in gear, It is goes in a rhythm and gets faster as the car gets faster, Its like the sound of a train or very old diesel engine, Any ideas what it could be???? Cheers Daniel
