  • Volvo s60 27 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I presume the dealers with pre-reg 52 plate ones will be getting pretty keen to move them on - are they a good deal? - I guess depreciation will be greater than BM and Audi - but they cost less and are better equipped in the first place. Are they a good buy? / good car? would a similar spec D5 models really worth the extra 3k - that's a lot of fuel! personally I prefer manuals - but I've sure I've read some criticism od the vovo maual box -true?
  • coil packs problem not just 20VT? 20 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The coil pack was replaced the same day and his car is now running perfectly again. (Must admit I am a little peeved that Seat have coil pack supplies on tap, whilst Audi have a 6 week back log.) So do other engines in the VAG range use these rogue coil packs? which ones? Shouldn't VAG issue a recall?
  • Fixing Injectors 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
thanks p.s what i have said regarding causes of power failure only applies in this example, but i hope it can at least be identified as a common problem in VW TDI's and Audis.
  • Magic fuel gauge 22 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Driving my 18 month old Audi in very, very heavy rain on M4 yesterday, and before my very eyes the petrol gauge magically began moving from the one-third (correct) reading to show full. Flicked the computer to show number of miles left from tank's contents, and that was correspondingly increasing.
  • Sad but true 3 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Having just cleaned the inside of my Audi (a job I hate), I've discovered that those moist wipes (not the baby's bum sort but the ones impregnated with some sort of spirit cleaner) are brilliant for cleaning windows and plastic bits. Also ideal for those 'forgotten' areas such as the edge of doors, sill steps, etc.
  • Golf brake failure 2 28 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Thank you Mill, a Passat W8 will do nicely ... Only kidding, I'm luck enough to have a spare car. Hard luck Golf and Audi A3 owners with the same fault ...
  • Oil pressure, or lack of! 30 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Hi, My car (1988 Audi 80, 1.8 carb) has developed a really annoying (and worrying) habit of showing me the low oil pressure light at higher engine revs (i.e. about 60mph+ in 5th). My first port of call was changing the sensor as it had begun to leak a bit of oil.
  • BMW 3-Series E91 Touring (2005 - ) - 320d : ownership report 16 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Its RWD characteristics are distinguishable from the FWD ones of the A4, and I prefer them. Overall it?s a nicer drive than the Audi was. The engine isn?t as punchy as I expected. In particular it hasn?t the torquiness at low revs that I remember from the Golf GT TDI 110 that preceded the Audi. The power delivery is more linear in nature, and you have to use the gearbox more.
  • Suggestions for a car 18 Oct 2022 (Forum)
We have 0 plans for more kids so with 15k is it possible to get the best of both worlds? Cars so far that have caught our eye are the focus st, audi a3, ford kuga and a Renault kadjar. I'd looked at a few 3 series bmw as well 318i and 320d but my dad says it costs a fortune to service and run a bmw, is this true? Any help and suggestions welcome.
  • Obstructive driving 30 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Several cars behind decided to use the shoulder to get to that exit a bit sooner, so I tagged along, to help reduce the tailback.  A bright red Audi (note that) decided that they and I were being naughty, so he pulled 'in' just ahead of me and continued at 3mph blocking any passage, so I gave him 2 fingers getting one in return.  This continued to the start of the slip road, when he graciously allowed anyone else to follow him.
  • Any - Plod's luxury cars 3 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I see the A1(M) around my way is now sprinkled with lots of coppers 'spy' cars - the jam sandwich is no more. What I find rather incongruous is that they are all brand new Mercedes, BMW and Audis. Austerity obviously doesn't apply to this lot. Bleating about cuts is one thing, but rolling out in a car most of us can't afford (as a private car anyway) sticks in the throat. I'm sure someone will stick up for them telling me its all about value for money yada yada, but in no way is it justified tooling them up with luxury branded cars - unless of course they're a reward for their fine collection ability.
  • BMW 5 series F10 - Bought a 2nd hand car, advice on service please 14 May 2014 (Forum)
Last service was done at 85K in January 2014. Ideally, I want to keep the car for a while. Had an Audi A3 before this, so new to large BMWs & diesels.. I’m after some advice on what should I watch out for? Anything I should change/service now as a precaution? Any known faults on this model?
  • BMW 3 or 5 series - 320d SE or 520d SE - I am thinking of returning to BMW and buying used 19 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Also: - what is the key difference between a 320d SE and 320d ES? - is the X3 or X5 a good, reliable and quality in comparison to Audi Q5? Thank you.
  • Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet - Company car loss and replacement 16 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I will only be getting statutory mileage for this. I have looked at a used Freelander from the dealer, a new Audi TT and a new Beetle Cabriolet. Would love to stay with a Freelander but trying to work out if would be better mileage wise and personal mileage to have something cheaper on fuel such as the Beetle.
  • Any - Main Dealer Horror Stories 13 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I have been chatting to the guy at a local independant garage, who told me that the absolute worst car to buy is an ex lease car. He has seen plenty of Audis and VWs where they are on long life servicing, so only 4 oil changes in 75 K miles over 3 years, and quite often they still have the ORIGINAL oil and air filters, the oilways are full of black gunge and to him it is very obvious that they supposed Full main Dealer history counts for nothing, as these main dealers regularly fail to perform many of the items that they should.
  • Premium Luxury Car Within Budget Recommendations? 23 Sep 2012 (Forum)
My budget is around £30k can push to £35k but really don't want to go too high. I have seen the Audi A8 @ 1 year old for £35k. Looks ok. I have also seen the Jaguar XJ but this was over my budget @ 1 year old and Portfolio trim. Sales man was over pushing so I pulled out (and because of budget).
  • Passion from a Citroen C5 9 Jan 2012 (Forum)
So, we're talking about the likes of Fiat, Vauxhall, Ford, VW/Skoda/SEAT, Peugeot/Citroen and Renault, rather than Audi, Alfa, Jag etc. I own a Ford Focus, which is apparently one of the best cars to drive in its class. The problem is, I just don't see it. I've had Peugeots and Vauxhalls and Fiats in the past, and never really saw anything remarkable in them either.
  • Ugly cars..................why do people buy them? 6 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Forunately VW has seen the error of its ways by re-introducing a proper convertible to the MK6 Golf range. Best retro car - Audi A1 - for recreating the Austin Allegro Ugliest supermini size car - Ford Fusion. Dumpy - Ford Ka Ugliest Focus size car goes to the Toyota Auris/Peugeot 308 Ugliest Mondeo size family car..................Renault Laguna hatch/estate or Subaru Legacy estate.
  • Subarus/other ordinary cars with 4x4 good in snow? 27 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I've seen a lot of the BMW X5 and X3 "4x4"s (I use the quotes wisely) round here and they seem to get stuck on a bit of frost on the level - all 4 wheels spin round. As do some of the other "fake" 4x4/softroaders. What are the octavia 4x4 and Audi/VW cars with quattro like ???? Or are they little better than a standard front-wheel drive car once you get to compacted ice - even a a shallow slope onthis seems to really stop most vehicles. Sister has a toyota Landcruiser and that seems to go up anything, withut even having to engae any of the lock modes....... so clearly there are good 4x4 systems and there are bad 4x4 systems - do the cars have decent ones ?
  • Need some advice/suggestions on my next automatic 2 Apr 2011 (Forum)
I drive 80% motorway and even if I dont exceed 60mpg with cruise control on (no AC on) I can still only manage 37mpg! I'm looking for a few suggestions - I would like a VW or Audi but cant afford the badge premium.  Only been working full time for the last year or so. I was thinking about the Peugeot 407 2.0 HDI, or the Vectra 1.9 CDTi but have always been told that the only reliable European cars were the Germans, and was advised to stick to Japanese if I couldnt afford a German and wanted reliability My budget is upto 5k (although I would prefer upto 4k) - no older than 02/52 and less than 80k on the clock Any suggestions?
