  • Neighbour - no Insurance/RFL 7 May 2008 (Forum)
Update on March Subject (Thread here) http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?t=61574 They are still driving around in the Citroen Saxo - No RFL and likely No Ins (not on MID) Nice day for a run so I went 2 miles - popped into the local Police Station and reported the suspicions of No Insurance - the RFL bit did not bother me.
  • Machanics/Garages - What cars do you dread? 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
There are certain jobs I dread as I either cannot make much money out of, or is more trouble than its worth. Is their any cars like this? I can imagine the Citroen XM/Renault Safrane are quite dreaded. Equally what jobs do you love doing and can make a lot of money out of? I love working in big houses as they usually have lots of computers all need looking at but not much wrong with them etc.
  • Question about car prices in the 1960s. 17 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Back in 1966, my dad was contemplating a new car. I remember looking at a Renault 16. I remembering hoping it would be a Citroen DS. In the end it was an Austin A60. The Peugeot 404 was also on the shortlist. I'm pretty sure that the Wolseley16/60 was not. My question is "What would the respective prices of these various cars have been?"
  • When the dealer IS cheaper for parts 18 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Not long bought a Berlingo van,and the washer pump wasn't working on it. No problem, thinks I,I'll give my local GSF a ring,as I'm sure they'll be cheaper than the local Citroen dealer. Rung them up,and got quoted a price of around £14 for the part, which they say was a genuine one,so just out of curiosity,I ring the local dealer, and he quotes me about £11 for the same piece.
  • Unusual Sightings Vol 11 21 May 2007 (Forum)
. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Today onmy travels near Brighouse I passed a house with four Allegros outside on the road and then just up the road at Birkenshaw a driveway with two Citroen Pallases circa mid eighties a GS Club an NSU Pince and something under wraps. It wonderfulto know there are still some good old excentrics still round all I see in Germany are rusting Skodas and dead Trabants.
  • Lucas injector pump leak 19 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Advice appreciated! The car is a diesel 1.9 Citroen ZX with the same engine as fitted to Peugeot 405, etc. Tracing a smell of diesel I've discovered that there is a significant leak apparently from the throttle spindle of the injector pump. There is noticeable play in the spindle and the handbook doesn't describe the internals of the pump, so my question is:- Before I start pulling things apart is there a seal that is replaceable without having to completely dismantle the pump.
  • Picasso:how do I find out what OBD type? 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The engine diagnostic light has come on - Citroen Picasso 51 plate 1.8SX petrol. I want to buy a cheap diagnostic unit that can tell me the trouble code and reset the light - they are only a few pounds on ebay. But how can I tell which interface will work?

No real point to this post, but doesn't time fly when you're having to work for a living! -- RichardW Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
  • Monster Truck challenge! 22 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Because they've come to symbolise bad driving as an aspiration. I'll go for Impreza because it's uglier and it makes a noise like Citroen 2CV covered in matresses. Cheers, SS - sorry if I've upset any owners of the above types but as I've owned an Austin Allegro and Hillman Hunter in the past I've taken my fair share of car-dissing too!
  • Problem with my waterworks !! Citreon AX 2 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Subject = Citroen AX 1.4 D Problem, cooling fan fails to come on ? Tried new thermostat, new fan switch, shorted connections for fan switch and fan operates, any ideas ? I have a small leak somewhere behind the dash which I presume is the heater matrix but this will have to stay as it involves to much work.
  • Dealers selling other makes 27 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Was out looking at cars today (got an itchy wallet) and I noticed that a number of the main dealers had quite a few other makers cars on the forecourt for sale. For instance, the VW Dealer on Colchester Road, Harold Wood had Rovers, Citroens and MG Sports cars for sale. The Fiat dealer on the Romford Road was also selling other makes. Is the buying public wising up to new car prices so much that we have made the difference?
  • French 4x4 15 Jan 2005 (Forum)
OK, in the 80's you could get a 4x4 405 and BX; and Renault did the Scenic RX4 but they've never done a big 4x4. Given Citroen's experience of hydaulic suspension you would think they would be well placed to enter this market. And as Renault and Nissan are joined (or taken over?), Renault could re-badge a Nissan 4x4 as a quick solution.
  • mid size car for 3 grand? 9 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Ideally would have aircon, and a big enough boot for a weeks camping equipment. Ideas so far include: Citroen Xsara 1.8 (S plate) Audi A4 (120k plus miles N or P plate) Peugeot 306 Which would people say makes the best buy? Any other ideas? SWMBO is tempted by the audi, but do they make good high mileage buys?
  • Hey, Good Looking... 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
The only criterion is the looks, I'm not talking about reliability, your good or bad experiences etc. My nominations are, in no particular order: Citroen Xantia (both saloon and estate) Mercedes 190 First Renault Clio Alfa 156 (had to include that, even at the risk of all the usual anti-Alfa reactions we get here).
  • Volvo740 TD Estate Hydraulics 1 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Unfortunately a roadside repair man filled it incorrectly with that horrible bright green mineral based fluid (LMB) that should only be used in those wierd citroens. It has wreeked havoc in my 740. Inadvertantly this fluid has also been added to the brake master cylinder of our 340, also with disasterous results. Master and slave cylindrs on both cars have been changed but we are having tremendous problems, particularly with bleeding.
  • Renew Warranty? Or not? 21 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Folks, Twelve months of uneventful life with a '97 Citroen XM have elapsed. What a wonderful machine! I resent having to pay £250.00++ for a renewed warranty, which means I would need to have my oil changed by the local indie. But I do fear something very expensive going bang or just ("silence") on my '97 2.5.
  • Range Rover - reliable motoring? 26 Sep 2003 (Forum)
They really get a beating in the reliability tables but are they really as unreliable as they seem? After all Citroens don?t get a good press either but so far I?ve had eight years of really troublefree motoring from my two, one C5 from new and one ex-demo Xantia with 500m. on the clock.
  • Car reliability survey 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Perhaps more interesting were the bunch propping up the foot of the table which were, I believe: Fiat (worst), Daewoo, Peugeot, Lotus, Kia, Land Rover, Vauxhall, Citroen, Renault, Suzuki. The French not looking too good eh ! Audi were in at 10 and Skoda at 6 I think but VW were down at 24. Overall the Mazda 6 was voted as the best car apparently. Can anyone give more details.
  • Renault's great gamble 31 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I was hoping that the reverse-slope rear screen pillar was a styling trend which was dead and buried with the Vauxhall Tigra, but what does everyone else think? Citroen must be highly delighted. Remembering how long it took for the Ford Sierra to become accepted (and even then, it needed a lot of Ford marketing money to do it), the more conservatively styled C5 might have the large French car market to itself for a while.
  • Cost to put right? 15 May 2002 (Forum)
Could anyone please advise me of a rough estimate for cost of repair as I have not got time to go from garage to garage for quotes. The car is a 94 Citroen ZX. By the way I recommend that you take your car to the local bus depot for its test, they will give you an honest appraisal of what needs doing because they usually do not have the facility to do the work themselves and therefore are not out to make a profit.
