Problem, cooling fan fails to come on ?

Tried new thermostat, new fan switch, shorted connections for fan switch and fan operates, any ideas ? I have a small leak somewhere behind the dash which I presume is the heater matrix but this will have to stay as it involves to much work. This however has caused me problems on several occasions with airlocks as I tend to have to top up every 3 days, but is this the cause of the fan not operating when needed, as I have tried many times rectify this problems ?

Any advice welcome

>>new fan switch, shorted connections for fan switch and fan operates

Faulty new fan switch.Nothing unusual..As for heater matrix leaking.Best get it sorted ASAP. It will only get worse causing more grief.

Thanks Steve, I'll test the fan switch, why did I not try this , but as for fixing the leak :O( to much work to get to it, the car has no value to anyone else, as for me it's a cheap run around so do not want to spend to much time and money on it, must admit though, I have read lots about the head being a weak leak on this car but lets just say that mine seems fine despite several periods of extreme drought in the engine !!!!!!

you may have an air pocket preventing the switch from registering the correct temperature.

have you bled the cooling system (If like a 106 1.4 d there's a bleed bolt on the waterpump)

Thanks guys, there is a bleed tube on the Ax that forms part of the pipework that feeds the matrix. I have completely flushed the system and ensured no airlocks in the past, but still the fan has not come on, I wll try to test the switch and let you know. As for the matrix, me thinks a dash of radweld will have to do, I have done this in the past and it works find until the need to add antifreeze and then the antifreeze just dissolves the radweld or something like that I presume.

Thanks

It is also possible you could have a blockage in part of the radiator and hence it is not getting the fan switch hot enough to operate. When you car is warming up carefully place your hand across different parts of the radiator and ensure it is fairly evenly warm all over. It may bit a bit cooler towards the bottom but ensure there is no cool spot in the vicintiy of the fan switch.
