Just musing... - RichardW
Today is 9th March - 14 years since I passed my driving test. Coincidentally, I got my insurance renewal yesterday, and realised that it is now 10 years since I had my first car. Adding up the mileage comes to 170,000 miles over the 10 years, and 6 cars (3 BXs, a 306 (short lived) and 2 Xantias) - and I have 10 years NCD now (grabs hard the desk to avoid bending the car on the way home and spoiling it!).

No real point to this post, but doesn't time fly when you're having to work for a living!

"this ain't a rehearsal2

Thanks for that! It was brought home to me last night in the car when discussing with my wife a news item on radio about possibility of people losing their licence after 2 speeding convictions (don't know details - I was only half listening) and I said I'd only had 1 speeding fine in 30 years of driving but could see, with all the speed cameras around, that I could easily lose my licence for 2 moments of carelessness. My wife said "What do you mean 30 years, you've been driving 40 years?" Oh yeah, says I -- but where did those other 10 years go????. I remember my mum saying once that she had had a licence for 17 years and I thought she must be very old!

Hah - not so long ago, or so it seems, my eldest nephew was just learning to walk and talk, but (snaps fingers) is now a year away from leaving school - where'd the time go?! Back on motoring, I've had my Leon over four years, but still think of it as the "new" car. I regularly lose track of how long ago things happened and I'm only 34!

I remember thinking "not a rehearsal" quite a while back. I was running my own business from home back then, but not enjoying it even though I was doing alright. I realised I had spent nearly three years feeling mostly bored and dissatisfied, which then felt like three years wasted. Decided that it wasn't for me, started doing some voluntary work, changed careers and have never looked back. Ok, I'd probably have a bit more dosh in the bank but I'm enjoying life and there's no pockets in a shroud!
