  • Petrol Drinker 28 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I'm not talking about distance really because I know that's going to use fuel, I mean driving method - even on short journeys the car seems to be very thirsty if I'm driving. Thanks!
  • driving which wheels 28 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Have had my superb Lexus 200 for nearly two years, but now miss front wheel drive (for extra traction in dodgy weather) and hatchback/5th door (for convenience) with split rear seats set up for occasional awkward loads. HJ refers to "uncorrupted" steering (also with most Mercedes and BMW models) and, of course, the rear wheel drive set up gives a beautifully balanced car.
  • Who Was Driving? 17 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I have just read in today's newspapers that two youths, aged 18 & 20, both of whom admitted being in a car which crashed and killed a 73 year old pedestrian, cannot be prosecuted as there is no evidence as to which one of them was driving at the time. They both admit being in the car and they both deny driving. On that basis how can police proceed against two people who were in a car exceeding the speed limit, who either can't or won't 'remember' who was driving?

  • Toyota Prius Plug-In - Driving on the Continent 16 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Do Xenon headlights need to have their dipping function redirected from left to right for driving on the right in Europe (particularly France)?  The headlights appear to be straight dripping.
  • Night driving 30 Jan 2019 (Forum)
With all these super power headlights around today does having a higher driving position help as it gets you above the oncoming beams? If I changed my V70 for an xc60 would it help or be a waste of cash?

  • For those driving Honda VTECs 23 May 2006 (Forum)
I've never driven one, but would be interested to know whether, motoring hacks apart, they are driven as the maker intended. i.e. 7000rpm+ on a regular basis... And are they a pain to drive at low revs?
  • Disqualified & driving record? 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)

  • Driving tests further to the basic car one. 17 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I passed my car test shortly after the automatic allowance of licence to drive various interesting things was removed (I've had a full motorbike licence for far longer). This means I need to take additional tests to tow heavy trailers, for instance, or drive track-laying vehicles.
  • New driving test content. 11 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Apparently (article in "The Daily Telegraph", drivers are going to have some sort of rudimentary evaluation of the efficiency of their driving, in terms of fuel consumption. According to the paper: "The new test has been introduced by the Driving Standards Agency in order to comply with European Union legislation.". Um. Anyway, candidates are going to get advice on how to improve.
  • Test driving cars 13 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just heard about the Volvo unaccompanied test drives that apparently are done by the company directly at selected sites. Apparently they allow you to drive the car for a full hour without the presence of one of their reps sitting at your side. Does anyone know about any other car makers which offer such test drives.Looked around but couldnt find any this far.

  • Private sale - test drive insurance 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi all, How do you deal insurance-wise with people wanting to "test drive" a car you are privately selling? I would not want someone driving my car without them being comprehensively insured, and putting them on my insurance will cost money, which could be wasted if they're just a tyre-kicker/dreamer.
  • Additions to Driving Test 2 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Well, today sees new sections in the Driving Test, requiring the candidate to show or tell the examiner where or how they would perform safety/mechanical checks on the vehicle. you can find details at http://www.dsa.gov.uk/driving/changes_to_practical_test.htm You can find an interactive quiz version on the BBC News site at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3197645.stm but it's so poor I was driven to complain to the Beeb about it.
