The result was a car that went well - and stopped even better, thanks to four-pot servo assisted brakes. In truth, the engine could have probably delivered more power - but it was limited by the four-speed gearbox. The car's other limitation was poor build quality and rust. Mercedes 540 K makes £2m at auction 30 Mar 2015 (News)
Top lot of the series was the 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster previously owned by German industrialist Alfried Krupp, which £826,473. And a 1961 300SL disc brake roadster that had spent 48 years in one family made £805,281. A 1957 300SL roadster with factory hardtop sold for £779,851, while a 1957 Gullwing Coupé, sold for £771,375. -
SEAT Launches 'Sub8' Pack For Cupra 280 15 Aug 2014 (News)
Now SEAT has launched a 'Sub8' performance pack for the car at £2,025. This includes bigger 370mm brake discs, Brembo 4 pot callipers, specially-designed 19-inch alloy wheels in either black or orange and body-coloured side skirts. Semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres are also available, for £460, which is £540 less than Renault charges for them for the Trophy-R. And to make it look the part two two coloured exterior packs are also on offer: Black-Line and White-Line for £500. -

The reality of driverless cars is some way off, not least because of the legal implications involved in establishing who is to blame if there is an accident, but manufacturers continue to develop the technology with the aim of improving car safety. -
Next MINI to come with head-up display 11 Oct 2013 (News)
The MINI will also come with adaptive cruise control and a digital headlight assist function which switches between main and dipped beam automatically by detecting oncoming traffic and vehicles in front. Other system will include collision warning and pedestrian warning systems, including a city braking function. There's also the MINI parking assist feature and a reversing camera. -

Bonhams moves forwards at its Beaulieu auction 11 Sep 2013 (News)
During its life, it was was exported when new to Argentina, and had a unique four-seater touring body fitted. Upgrades included upgrading the brakes with a vacuum servo in 1978 and rebuilding the engine with a new cylinder block in 1993, and new Arias forged pistons for more performance. It was almost pipped at the post by the 1953 Alfa Romeo 1900C 1st Series Sprint Coupé (below). -

Mercedes-Benz launches competition for young drivers 20 Apr 2012 (News)
Mercedes-Benz has launched a competition to give 100 youngsters a chance to drive on the famous Silverstone race circuit. It’s free to enter and the winners will get a tailored lesson in car control, braking, roundabouts and manoeuvres on a route that takes in the famous Bridge Corner, part of the pre-2011 Grand Prix circuit. The competition gives under-17s a chance to experience the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy at Silverstone before it opens to the public in May. -

Mercedes offers new service plan 15 Mar 2010 (News)
The Service Care plan covers all manufacturer-recommended service items, such as spark plugs, filters and brake fluid. It can be used to spread the cost of maintenance over any period an owner wants and it's transferable with the car when the owner sells it. Brits 'driving unsafe cars' 23 Dec 2008 (News)
The research also found 25 per cent of drivers do not replace worn tyres, while 29 per cent do not fix broken brake lights when they first encounter a problem. In addition, the survey showed 47 per cent of vehicle owners do not get windscreen chips repaired immediately, with 26 per cent admitting they would wait until a crack appeared before taking any action. -
