  • Fed up with VAG cars 22 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Brake components also dont seem to be very durable either. And Skoda dealers now seem to be charging Audi prices for repairs. Should I consider Toyota or any other make - all I want a car thats cheap to run and built to last at least 200,000 miles without having to be rebuilt every 5 years.
  • Peugoet 407 Coupe 2.7 V6 HDi - Peugeot 407 Coupe - Yes/No? 15 Jun 2011 (Forum)
It's up at £10300 at a Peugeot dealer. Alternatively, are there any other bigger coupes along the same lines these days? Audi/BMW likely out of price range.   Thanks Andrew
  • BMW 330D Saloon (E90) - Buying advice needed 19 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I have been unfortunate to have bought two complete lemons recently which have ended up costing me thousands of pounds in repairs (Audi A6 Allroad being my biggest mistake by far!!). As I see it, I can either; 1) Buy from a BMW approved used dealer at an inflated price but with a decent warranty 2) Buy from a random dealer which will obviously come without a decent warranty at a better price As I am really reluctant to shell out for further repairs, what is my best option??
  • Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 04 1.9D Rear Wheel Bearings 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Talking with parts dept. of my local VW garage, they seemed to imply that this is a fairly frequently used part (rear hub assy), with units even being replaced under warranty. Same part used on Audi A3. I would not expect to be replacing rear wheel bearings this early on in cars life! Is this a design problem? Bearing quality issue or possibly lack of lubrication....but meant to be sealed for life.
  • BMW - customer contact program or packages 15 May 2008 (Forum)
The purpose with this research is to evaluate how manufactures of luxury products confirm or welcome their customers in connection to sales and to identify how this creates value for the costumers. My questions are: -Do the brands BMW, Audi, honda, Lexus and mercedez-Benz have any kind of ?customer contact programme? that welcomes customers as new car owners? -If yes, what is this package/programme comprised of? -Do the packages differ between car models?
  • Used car for £7000 (diesel estate) 11 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I've got around £7000 to spend and I'm looking for a diesel estate, I hope to change it in a year or so once I've worked out how the finances are going. So far I'm thinking of: Audi A4 Avant - I've seen some with high mileage (130,000 / 03 plate), does anyone know if they go on much futher? Mazda 6 - I've currently got an 07 plate and it's okay Saab - 9-5 Volvo - either V40 or V70 Also, I've been to cargiant and some of the cars there look interesting - does anyone have experience or buying from them?
  • Valuation of my A3? Need help! 7 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Hj's says when you part ex it compare it with similar models of similar age and mileage which the dealer has for sale, and don't accept less than £1,000 or 10% (whichever is the greater) less than the sticker price on these cars. So when comes the time to buy my 58 plate motor, according to the audi website some 55 plates are still going for £17,495 meaning this time next year my A3 is potentially worth £16,495 in p/x??? Surely there is something i'm missing as this would be pretty cheap new car motoring??
  • VW Bora diesel, high mileage? 13 May 2007 (Forum)
Hello all, I have been offered a VW Bora TDI (90bhp) S model 2000/X with 113k miles for £2900. Although not as practical as an hatchback (prefer Audi A3 or Golf mk4 but these are more expensive), it is comparatively cheaper and does seem to be better value for money. My concern is to the high mileage. It has FVWSH but worried that I could be in for an expensive engine overhaul in the near future.
  • More C-Class woes 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, With my limp-home mode resolved - for now at least - I'm on to the next problem with my old Merc (wish I'd bought an Audi, even my old Xantia cost me less per mile). Driving home today I noticed a metallic clunking the o/s/f suspension. A quick inspection in the dark found the o/s/f of the car to have dropped - the wheel is up into the wheel arch, I'm surprised the tyre wasn't rubbing on the wheel arch when parking.
  • How do they justify different DSG prices 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
What struck me though when looking at his brochures and prices lists is that if you have a DSG gearbox in VW or Audi it is approx £1300 but if you spec into on the same engine on a SEAT it is at least £400 cheaper. Even after cutting through all the badge value debate, how on earth can this be justified. These engines and transmissions are sourced from the same companies and built in the same factories before being shipped to which ever car company is installing them, so there cannot be any logistical/manufacturing reason for the difference.
  • Suzuki Carry Sprinter :-) 10 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Anyone with PTW info on cars got a car with similar power to weight figures? Id just be interested to know what sort of 0-60 it might have as I nearly beat a 2.0 Audi from some traffic lights up to 50mph and he didnt get that far away by the time I hit the legal limit. Just curious
  • Any car as long as it is a Golf 13 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Not sure if there is any mileage in this one or if it will be killed stone dead, but there have been a number of threads (Avensis Vs Passat interior quality got onto the theme) recently discussing whether the Golf, A3, Octavia, Leon, Altea etc are one in the same car with different badges - apparently there are 17 different models across the different makes within VAG - all with same platform, bits, and engines. 4car.co.uk has just posted an article basiclly saying they are the same and you should choose according to your requirements, i.e. if you are image conscious then buy an A3, luggage = octavia, comfort = golf plus. Is this marketing genius or does it cheapen the Audi and VW branding ? My argument has always been that if you want one of these, and they are all pretty good cars then buy Skoda because they will be cheaper, will be the same car and according to JD Power etc, they also know how to treat customers properly.
  • S-Max to go same way as Signum 23 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Anyway, can anyone see this being a success for Ford, or for the brave first time owner? I expect it will go the same way as the Signum in that the BMW/Merc/Audi badges are more attractive to buyers for their perceived values, so sales will be poor. On the second hand market however, I would expect the S-Max to offer a lot of value for money. If buyers wanted to spend £20k plus on a Ford with some carrying capacity, surely they'd opt for the X type estate?
  • Hot Weather - a Warning 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Check reveal that petrol vapour has "blown" the container splitting the seam, fortunately only extent of a pinhole, but nonetheless shelf is well damped and paint bubbled. Five litres of petrol donated to neighbour's Audi and container isolated at bottom of garden. One spark (from freezer thermostat?) and whole lot could have gone woof. Bromptonette's bedroom is over the garage. Three days later and we'd have been away for three weeks on our hols.
  • Why don't the Germans like alloy wheels? 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
But one of the first things I noticed was that very few cars had alloy wheels. This included the vast majority of BMW and Audi cars and many Mercs. In fact, I saw quite a few with the plastic wheel trims missing and the black steel wheels showing, and they looked awful! Imagine a 2-3 year-old BMW 5 series in such a state.
  • Help replacing my Mondeo 27 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I've decided to replace my 98 Mondeo ST 24 but have already run into a problem; too many choices! I started looking at Audi (A4 and A6), VW Passat, Volvo, Saab, Mazda MX6, Honda Accord, Nissan Primera... not too keen on BMW's or Jags, just because of the type of person who normally drives them -(;0) I've got about £10k to spend, if I get a good trade in on the Mondeo and also shift the Shogun - I've been looking at Diesels for fuel economy, performance isn't too important although I've always loved the V6 sound -(:0).
  • What young lad's flash car for sub 15k 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Anyway, the jammy git's got 15 grand burning a hole in his pocket and is interested in a Boxster and an Audi TT primarily. Naturally, given his age (just turned 21 the other week), these choices could fall through so he's looking for other similar(ish) cars for ideas. This is where you lot come in. It's a free for all on ideas please.
  • Castrol oils for VAG engines 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
As all the bottles are placed next to each other be sure you pick up the correct one for your vehicle. In four years of Audi ownership this is the third bottle of Castrol oil I have bought and each time it is been in a different bottle!
  • Small Claims Court..used car issue!HELP! 14 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, This is a bit of a techincal/legal matter so any help would be appreciated. My friend recently sold a used audi car. When my friend bought the car, he bought it as a Quattro model (ie 4 wheel drive) and he had no reason to doubt this. Now that he has sold it the new buyer has discovered that the car is a non quattro.
  • New model A4 ergonomic problem 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I also have trouble getting comfortable - I get left leg aches and now back problems - I think that the foot rest next to the clutch is too high or at the wrong angle. Audi only say that I have to keep adjusting the seat until I get comfortable, but by then the seat is so far back I can't fully depress the clutch!Anyone else get this problem, and has anyone found an answer?
