I suggest buying from a BMW dealer. This need not be that much more expensive than another dealer if you shop around on the BMW national website. If you find a few possible cars, phone the dealers and negotiate - you have only wasted a couple of minutes if they say no. They will generally accept a small deposit which to hold the car, which will be refunded if you find something wrong when you inspect it. A 2006-2008 AUC should be virtually unmarked.
The advantage of buying from BMW are when you find some faults, and there will be some, you can use your local BMW dealer to fix them under warranty, and secondly if the car should turn out to be misdescribed (crashed, clocked, outstanding finance....) you are completely protected.
Bear in mind that despite all the advertising, the AUC check isn't real - they just wash and vacuum the car and touch up any obvious scratches. The quality control is left up to the buyer. That's not a big problem though as they should fix any faults under warranty. Just make sure you get them to fix everything, as once the car is out of warranty, BMW have become much less helpful of late....
