  We youngsters were always mightily impressed with both cars and the women. Well he is now in his 70s, certainly not impoverished, but sedately drives a little hatchback with his fourth(I think) wife. I asked him recently if he didn't miss all the exciting cars he used to drive. He said it was the motoring equivalent of impotency and quoted George Melly who famously said that losing his sex drive was like being untethered from a wild beast!

  After reading a few of the other threads I had this thought... Personally I find the growing me-first attitude on the roads encouraging. I was driving on a road the other day and a single queue of traffic threaded back for at least a mile and half. Another straight on lane empty (signs saying it closed in half mile or something etc). Illogical.

  Hi, I'm trying to buy a replacement car, and want to try and find a good private example. I have the problem that I want to drive the cars, but despite having a fully comprehensive insurance policy i don't have 3rd party cover to drive any vehicle. I have called my insurance company (elephant) to ask to have my policy ammended, but they refuse to do it. elephant amusingly suggested i ask any seller i visit that they put me on their policy so that i can drive the car!

  Having said that though, when I investigated under the bonet after the test drive, there was a lot of hissing etc from the general direction of the water reservoir. Any thoughts? As always, your help and advice is most welcome. Cheers Rob "Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast."

  I am fairly new to diesel, having got a Seat Alhambra TDi a couple of months ago, and have had time to consider the characteristics of the engine. The good Effortless cruising and overtaking Blinding economy The bad Urban driving. Before I got a diesel I was led to understand that the huge torque pulled you in pretty much any gear. Where we live is heavy on roundabouts, and it seems pretty easy to get stuck in a the wrong gear with no power.

  Typically hybrids are FWD and they have motor besides engine in front.  But I wonder why not place the motors at rear and make it drive only rear wheels in EV mode? Some cars do implement AWD but they put a 2nd motor at the back.  My question is, what prevents designers from shifting ICE transaxle to neutral and drive rear wheels only in EV mode?

  Hi all, Can anyone have any suggestions on why I am feeling vibrations through my 55 reg car when it is idling? Its drives ok and dont feel any vibration when driving. It has only started to do this no warning lights on dash. It sounds as if there is something loose in the dash. the sound is like when you have your mobile on vibrate and is on a desk but not as loud and duller.

  Hi hear the mazda2 1.5 ( circa 2012 ) is a good city car and seems reliable etc My daughter does about 200 miles a week motorway driving and 100 local roads Are they good to drive on the motorway ?,,can they keep up with the traffic, overtake before the sun goes down ! any mazda2 owners out there give me any advice. I've found a 2012 , 90k miles FSH, MOT etc so wondered if it was a good bet  cheers

  I am thinking about buying a used Renault Captur as I had one as a hire car on holiday a couple of years ago and enjoyed driving it.  So, I’m thinking about getting a diesel one, maybe a 2016 or 2017 model.  I see there are two choices, a 90bhp 5-speed manual gearbox or the 110ps with the 6-speed gearbox. Most of my driving is on motorways and A roads at 70mph, so the diesel is probably a sensible choice, but what’s your thoughts re the 5-speed or 6-speed gearbox choices?

  Driving around yesterday and when attempting to accelerate there was no response from the pedal, the pedal felt as if it had no resistance and the engine never responded. Had to pull over and call for a recovery as not sensible to drive on the clutch alone.

  I have a bmw 320i 2006 year when I got the car there was oil dripping on exhaust manifold from rocker cover so had this done the car was fine for 3 days after this  I left the car parked on drive for 3 days and tonight when driving to shop there was smoke coming from under bonnet with a burning oil smell opened the bonnet couldn' see anything obvious    When leaving the shop the car drove fine no smell no smoke any ideas would be a great help

  Hello, side from the obvious risk of theft, is it illegal to leave your car running whilst you're scraping the outside and your vehicle is on a private drive or road?  I heard that any unattended vehicle can reward you with 3 points on your license even if its sitting on your drive.
