second hand car problem 9 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I then called the garage, who agreed to bring the car back, letting me have my old car back as a courtesy car, whilst they sorted it out. Unfortunately, they broke the sensor removing it, so it then had to go to a toyota main dealer to have the work done, which meant that I was without the car for a week. -

Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - A question for Screwloose & other 'old-time' mechs 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Whats striking for me, as a not-very-good fixer of cars, is how little it seems 'modern' garages can actually do in the way of fault diagnosis that isnt computer-driven- and more importantly, how often these diagnostic tools can prove to be wrong. I'm lucky in that I have an excellent local garage, staffed by both old-timers and young 'uns, that seem to get it right more often than not. -

My dad just keeps going on about how I am spoilt with my 10 year old car because his first car only ran on 3 cylinders, needed 1 litre of oil a week, had no brakes etc etc. Also I know this just because I am an enthusiast but what is the fun in having a brand new car for a first car? -

Volvo C70 MK1 - Changing automatic transmission fluid 5 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I have acquired a C70 convertible which I'll be using during the spring/summer, (have a Toyota Carina for the other seasons). My question relates to the automatic transmission fluid on the Volvo. The car is very smooth shifting, but there is no history of the fluid ever being changed. The car is nearly 20 years old. A famous American youtuber called Scotty Kilmer has said that changing transmission fluid on an old car when it's never been done before could lead to problems with the transmission shifting properly. -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 17-08-2019 Part 2 24 Aug 2019 (Forum)
On a 9 year old car - of course not. Furthermore the repair costs are £1800 parts and £1200 labour - total £3000. I wouldn't have thought a 2010 / 57k Meriva would be worth that much. My advice would have been to trade his car and use the £3000 to buy a newer model.
