Peugeot 106 diesel 1997 - Front brakes sticking - Need help desperately 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I only do 3000 miles per year total, on quiet roads so not much braking. The front nearside brake is jamming yet again. I had it serviced and freed off a week ago (they cleaned up and greased the piston sliders). It always happens at the beginning of a journey, and always can be freed by hard braking, but the wheel gets very hot. -
Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 'Check Parking Brake' warning after pad change 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Is it possible to remove the warning? The brakes work fine, and the parking brake works as it should... I don't really want to take it to a Renault dealer. Any help much appreciated! Regards, Rick. Subject line tweak to make everything fit [removed engine size - I know, I know :-( ] altered year to read 2004 - don't think they made electronic parking brakes in 1954 - sensible chaps ! -
Always expect the unexpected - ABS! 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I don't think it's a coincidence that it happened seconds after I braked the hardest I've ever braked (if I was driving an auto, it would have been a two footer jobbie) but I'm surprised it kicked in under such gentle pressure. No doubt the ABS module is about to blow up, or maybe the brakes have just crumbled away. -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - '97 Nasty noise when braking & motorway cornering 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I had a new front section of exhaust put on my 214 on Wednesday (was the bit from the manifold to the cat) as the flexi bit was blowing. Anyway, around 5 miles after driving off and out of town, I had to use the brakes at more than 10mph and I got a funny noise that sounds like a horrible groaning noise and the steering wheel shaking when braking. It doesnt do it all of the time but if you brake any more than lightly the noise is there and at higher speeds sounds like a vey bad droan/heavy vibration. -
Bought a car with faulty brakes - what are my rights? 1 Jun 2016 (Ask HJ)

Around 12 weeks ago I bought a used (2013) BMW M5. All was good for a week, then a nasty brake squeal developed. The dealership initially said it was down... -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 1999 2.2 diesel dealer/brakes problem 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
the dealership repairing the car had it for over a month and have said that the master cylinder and soemthing else brake related (cant quite remember at the mo) has gone and they want £1000 to repair, having had the car MOT'd less than 2months before the accident, he had noticed nothing wrong with the brakes what-so-ever, so he as surprised to get this news from the dealer. he has said no to the repairs for now on the car, signed a waiver that says the dealer has infomed him the brakes are dangerous and the car should not be driven, and tested the car in a secure car park, needless to say the brakes were not working as they had been prior to the car being taken away (he described it as like driving his work's transit van with 6 elepahants in the back, it just kept going and going). -

Clio mk 5 2021 - Brake pads and discs 30 Jul 2024 (Forum)
Bought the above from a well known major car supermarket. To cut a long story short, when it was serviced the brake discs were 20mm front 9mm rear, pads 4mm front 3 mm rear. My question is, is this acceptable and should they have replaced them all before sale. They didn’t do the service as promised but they paid for Halfords to do it, so asked them if they had serviced it and found these measurements would they have replaced them awaiting reply? -
VW Passat 2004 1.9Tdi 130bhp - Emissions Issue 5 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I would like to add to that post that on starting not only does the engine light come on with the message 'Emissions Workshop' the brake light comes on with beeping and a message saying STOP, Brake Fault. When I release the handbrake the beeps stop and the message goes away. I would like to further add that the brakes work perfectly well. -

VW Polo 2018 Embarrassing design fault 23 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I recently gave a team mate a lift to the rink, and discovered that the hand brake is on the passenger side of the central area, hence I was rubbing his leg whenever I needed to use the hand brake. Very embarrassing. Obviously VW have not bothered to adapt the hand brake position for a right hand drive car. -
Cleaning a motorcycle engine.... 11 Apr 2018 (Forum)
It has a lot of grease and grime, and was wondering what is the best was of cleaning this out without damaging the engine or electrics. 2. What is the quickest and most effective way of cleaning off brake dust and grime from alloy wheels? I frequently use a rag, but this takes a long time to do. 3. And finally, when brake pads are changed, does the brake fluid have to be automatically drained and changed? -

Ford Ka - Brake Caliper 29 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I had overheating and a burning smell from the passenger side brakes two weeks ago, I got the local garage to check and they said it needed pads and discs and it didn't look like anything was seized. It's a lot better but still gets hotter on the passenger side, I took it back and they thought it might be the flexi hose, but when they inspected that they said it was ok and it needs a new caliper. -

You will hear the brakes release. Skoda Assistance guy did this with mine. 2) If you can park on a slope, do so such that the car will roll backwards when you release everything. With a bit of gradient, the weight of the car should free the brakes off in that direction, and very little or even no clutch action required. -
Honda/CRV - Brake Disc thickness 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Tucked in the glove box was the multi-point check form. Can someone who understands these things better than me please help explain the brake disc measurements: NSF Pads - 10 Discs - 27.21 OSF Pads - 10 Discs - 27.27 NSR Pads - 10 Discs - 7.82 OSR Pads - 10 Discs - 7.91 Does this mean the rears are wearing low? -
Toyota Auris and Auris HSD - Brake disc wear and corrosion 26 Jan 2014 (Forum)
From what I understand it should be the opposite, ie common for the front to wear out first and the rears to rust and corrode. So why has my car done the opposite? Is it possible the brake ratio front to back is incorrect? Is this set by software or a mechanical system? The car is used daily and does average annual mileage. -
to change the brake fluid or not to change? 16 Jan 2014 (Forum)
, I just got my VW Passat back from a 50K service and change of cambelt, water pump etc... the dealership has been at me for a couple of years now to change the brake fluid. Does anyone have any views on this as I am not sure whether this is just another rip off scheme from manuacturers to get more dosh!! Any comments would be welcomed. {made non make/model specific as several makes/models are being discussed.
