  • Ford Focus Zetec 2008 - Does 3 months warranty from dealer cover faulty AC 11 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Can you let me know what you think and maybe if you could throw in a few lines that I can use if he tries to lead me astray?
  • VW Bora '02' - Keeps cutting out 14 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I cannot jump start the car and have to turn the ignition off and then restart the car. It starts first time leading me to believe that it is not fuel related. I have had it in a number of garages and they cannot find the fault this includes the main dealer who had it for two days.
  • Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.2 intermittent starting problem 19 Dec 2012 (Forum)
First I fitted a new battery - although old one seemed OK - Next fitted new plugs (Despite huge tool kit, had to buy special spanner -Those Frenchies!) Next stop was new coil/leads from Renault dealer. All has made no difference. Usually starts instantly, but then a couple of days elapse and my daughter explains that she has spent about 15 minutes trying to start it. I'm afraid that if 'we' book it into the Renault main dealer they won't find anything wrong, or charge for unnecessary work/parts, the same old fault appearing a few days later.
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager - is it ecu 15 Aug 2012 (Forum)
on arrival the battery was flat????  so my pal pulled his car up ...and during the banter whilst connecting the leads..they were connected the wrong way around... fro about 30 sec or so...and melted them.. now car will not start..all elecs work and dash lights come on immobiliser works bleep on lock and double locks and light flashes. all seems as it should...
  • FIAT Punto II (1999 - 2006) - Fitting new dip beam headlight bulbs 1 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Its a five minute job on both sides done this way. You need a 10mm spanner and perhaps needle nosed pliers to pull the electrical lead off the bulb. Best to check headlight alignment afterwards The Mk2b looks easier than the Mk2 - it uses rubber `caps` over the bulb insertion apertures and nothing needs to be undone.
  • SEAT Leon water ingress 29 Jun 2012 (Ask HJ)
The car windows always steam in my Leon. I'm told this is a design fault. It has lead to the airbag sensors corroding under my seats. Have you ever hurd...
  • audi A6 idle juddering 20 Jun 2012 (Forum)
need advice on my A6 2.4 auto 1997 . about 2 months ago it had to taken to a audi dealer as it would not start after left unused for 2 weeks.not battery problem.the dealer said there was fuel flooding and changed all sparks and add fuel treatment. start ok since but had trouble with the engine juddering at idle espescially when climate control on and using the brakes. brought it back to dealer and they changed a faulty spark lead. some improvment but still not completely gone. third time they diagnosed a faulty valve timer and changed it at total of £370!!!and guess what ? yup ! made absolutely no difference. interestingly whenthe engine is cold it runs smooth but starts after driving a few minutes and also after awhile some noticeable judder when accelerating as well though not as bad as idle .any idea before it has to go back to that dealer ...i amfast losing faith and money..incidently as they repalced a nonfaulty component are they obliged to omit the charge for further work?
  • S-Max v VW Passat 3 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I like the look of the S-Max and think it's the more practical of the two but I'm afraid I have never liked the Ford brand but equally, I am prepared to take the risk.  The running costs does worry me though.  The Passat is in the lead at the moment especially as VW appear to have rectified earlier problems, and do have a better build quality.  But would I be limilited with the space, although the boot is HUGE. The S-Max on the other hand, appeals due to the 3 full size seats in the middle row, and I have said to the wife that she could sit between our two boys in their car seats and entertain them on long journeys - which we do.
  • BMW? in the market for another European car co. 23 Feb 2012 (Forum)
It was confirmed that one of the six or seven bidders was a European automaker based out of Munich, which leads many to believe that it is BMW since the two firms once signed an engine purchasing agreement back in 2010. It would be mighty interesting if BMW is able to come out of this one to not only continue producing Saab vehicles, but using their platforms for their own models and even MINI ones.
  • Ford Ka - Ford Ka 1.3 Endura - One oily spark plug - Help!! 1 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It had a misfire issue which after a set of plugs and leads, went away. 3 of the 4 spark plugs snapped off in the head, meaning I had to get them out using a torx driver. This was ok but it resulted in debris falling into the cylinders. I used a magnet and turned the engine over by hand to try and clear the cylinders out.
  • Ford Focus - Difficult first start 20 Sep 2011 (Forum)
You stop the engine straight away and turn the ignition again, the engine starts instantly. I changed the spark plugs and leads about 2 years ago and it didn't help at the time. Now back to the challenge! We got the car serviced for brake fluid and general look around the vehicle... the mechanics changed the sparkplugs again, saying they were black.
  • VW Polo 1.4 16v , 1999 T reg - OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM!!! VW Polo 16v 1.4. 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
So I took it to another garage that looked at it, and they said the breather system needed cleaning, they then had the throttle cylinder cleaned, oil separater and pipe replaced, but still no change in the oil consumption. This has lead me to believe it is the valve stem seals, Does anyone have an idea of how much these would cost to replace? (including labour).  I would welcome any advice or recommendations on where would be a good (value) place to get the job done.
  • Vauxhall Astra F - MK3 Astra cutting out 27 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Is this likely to be the problem or the only problem, is there any chance that is not the problem and it is something else? There is a split in the pipe leading from the air filter going towards the throttle body. Is this anything to do with it? If anyone can come up with any other suggestions I would be grateful as it is a work car and I need it working properly in 2 weeks.
  • Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - 03 2.0 Replacing remote tyre pressure sensors 13 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Rather like a key the TPI has to be coded to the car and the Peugeot garage say that would be a minimum charge of £40 Of course we all know that the actual job will be 35 seconds - connect a lead, press a couple of buttons and job done, but apparently the software is only available to Peugeot dealers so - once again - it's a captive market If you dont have it done then every journey starts with a warning that there is a TPI missing.

  • American anger over BP oil leak 29 Jun 2010 (Forum)
It`s not as though BP has said `your mega trucks that you use as personal transport use so much fuel -- that we`ll just flood the Gulf of Mexico with oil and it should last you a week or so given your world leading consumption`. Best start filling up at BP stations to prop them up - I suppose ;-) Yawn.. Yeah, I know it`s the environment - but what`s wrong with constructive US support for BP - when all that can be done, seems to be being done?
  • ford mondeo - Ford mondeo mk3 petrol fuel pump problem 31 May 2010 (Forum)
Hi i run a taxi company and have 2 1.8 mondeo's and they both had the same problem of now real power and jutteryness when accelerating, changed everything that you would think i.e spark plugs, ht leads, air filter, pretty much everything then the last thing we tried for a mere £35.00 second hand was the fuel pump which sorted out the problem but after big money spent on them. Iam asking if this is a common problem on these as it dosen't state so on here or anywhere else and my friend who also has a 1.8 auto mondeo had the same problem but was told it was the gearbox so 2 new gearboxes later it was the same so she though b***** it and changed the fuel pump for peanuts and again that sorted it after big money spent again.

  • Vauxhall Astra G Coupe/Convertible (2000 - 2004) - 03 1.8 Loss of Power Steering and Electrics 8 Oct 2009 (Forum)
If i leave the car for half an hour it restarts no problem (stereo reset though, like battery was disconnected) and could be 6 weeks before it happens again. Had new battery fitted, alternator checked by 4 different garages and all earth leads checked. Its been to Vauxhall who couldnt find the fault either. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks
