Vauxhall Astra F - MK3 Astra cutting out - PilgrimUK

First thing in the morning if it is cold or wet, it drives okay for the first 5 minutes. After that, it stalls and will not start again for about 15 - 20 minutes. It always restarts but I have to leave it that long. It is fine for the rest of the day.

Looking under the bonnet I can see petrol has leaked around the throttle body. Someone said I need a new throttle body which I am in the process of buying.

Is this likely to be the problem or the only problem, is there any chance that is not the problem and it is something else?

There is a split in the pipe leading from the air filter going towards the throttle body. Is this anything to do with it? If anyone can come up with any other suggestions I would be grateful as it is a work car and I need it working properly in 2 weeks.

This only happens in the cold and wet. If the weather is fine or hot I never have a problem with it all day.

There are two photos below;

First one is of the Throttle Body showing the leakage...

Second shows the pipe with the split...

Don't buy a new throttle body just yet - it may just need a good clean - take the inlet trunking off and look down into the throttle body - wipe out the excess oil and then use carburettor cleaner with the engine running but you'll need to operate the throttle manually as it'll tend to stall.

The split in the inlet trunking needs sorting out properly - you don't say which engine/power output your Astra is - the bigger ones use a MAF meter in the air cleaner outlet and would be badly affected by an air leak while smaller ones use a MAP sensor and only have a minor effect.

Faulty crank sensor - symptoms sound like it.
