  • What a load of drivel - Buying a car 5 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I am happy that i buy my cars cash (heavily discounted about a year old and don't have to sit through all this myself. To avoid future allegations of mis-selling for the 2 friends i was told upon asking..
  • VW polo 1.2 TDI SE Grey - Selling Car (VW Polo 2011) 24 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi all,   Looking for some quick advice.  I'm going to be selling my dad's car for him in the next couple of weeks.  I have been looking around for guidelines etc in terms of pricing.   I am aware generally you get a better price selling privately.  My father is wary of selling it privately due to his apprehension that people won't spend that kind of money privately on a car just over one year old (60 plate).
  • What will your next car be? 7 Jul 2011 (Forum)
This should be fun. What car do you intend to buy next or what would you want to buy next? I personally am looking at Jaguar S-Type's right now on the used markets, i overlooked it when i changed my car a short while back mainly because i thought i'd never get insurance on such a car, however with quotes coming out at around £500 a year for me its now viable, and i had models of the old XJ when i was a kid and always dreamed of having a big Jag.
  • FIAT 500 Twinair - Turbo failure 23 Mar 2011 (Forum)
The car is only 2 weeks old and already I am now wondering how reliable this car is going to be. It has certainly taken the edge of owning a new car. I cant work out why the wastgate cant be repaired though, any ideas?
  • Possible Replacements 27 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Could be facing a large bill on my car of £1000 or a bit more, and may be further repairs and therefore are considering whether to replace car. Car is a focus sized saloon car, has a diesel engine which produces just over 150BHP and has 147,000 miles on clock, is elven years old and averages 47 mpg, and covers 11,000 miles a year If replacing it I would like to have something of the same size ,power, and fuel costs.
  • New Car Warrantee - or should I buy second hand? 24 Jun 2010 (Forum)
The other option is to buy a car say 2 or 3 years old (cheaper) and take out one of these warranty schemes that will cover everything including servicing, etc  - or will it If there is anyone with any experience of this or help and advice I would be grateful Look forward to hearing what you think...........
  • Guess AE's new car 19 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I am shortly to have what my company calls a "life event". I am to retire early in the next two months. I currently run a company (lease) car which will have to be returned. I have just purchased a new (second hand) car. Your task is to guess what car I have purchased. The brief I had for purchase was 3-5 years old, under 40k miles. Petrol, estate, 5 doors, manual, ins group 9 or less, alloys, metalic, aircon, not outstanding ugly, known reliability, budget £5-6k pounds.
  • Locally overpriced S/H cars 14 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi there I live near Perth in Scotland and have been aware for some time that a car with a windscreen price of say £5K in Glasgow/the central belt or even the north of England will usually be at least a grand more expensive here in Perth. I noticed this today on a well known internet auction site: http://tinyurl.com/yftybns Okay, it's in good nick, but £5K for a car coming up for 12 years old, they have to be kidding!?
  • Car not crushed. 2 Sep 2009 (Forum)
We discuss at length people having their cars needlessly confiscated, this could be a more normal situation. Returning from a late grandchild sit at 1am...
  • Second car advice 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Obviously I don't want to pay over the odds on insurance - and am looking 4-5 years old second hand, so I'm not looking for anything extravagant. But I am 6'7 and want a car I can be comfortable driving. Not really decided on budget yet, so any thoughts on what sort of thing I could get for £5000 and £10000.
  • On street parking. How long before arguments start? 2 May 2009 (Forum)
Where i live it is now getting harder to find a parking place. It is mainly thanks to each house having at least two cars. When their offspring pass their driving test another car appears. Would be bearable if they park properly and not take up space for two cars. Father took a photo of me when i was 10 years old (35 years ago) standing by the road.
  • Mitsubishi - i-MiEV i would you lease this car? 24 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Couldn't post without choosing a car. Edit: Fixed to remove the car. In discussion you either need to have a make/model or Category. As it's an electric car I selected Green Motoring for you. Rob
  • SEAT Arosa (1997 - 2005) - 04 1.0 Central Locking Problems 10 Dec 2008 (Forum)
This continues until the car is unlocked - so many hours if left..... Any thoughts on what might be causing this? I've wondered about sticking lock mechanism, or possibly the convenience control unit (don't know whether this car has one - my old Seat Toledo did and I had CL problems with that car also).
  • Buying A Car which belonged to a smoker 15 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi Folks, Need your help, I am keen to buy a year old Toyota Yaris, and I have found one around my price range, and it low miles and in really good condition. However the problem is the owner before must have smoked, and the car has a stale horrible smoke smell in it.
  • V5 Document and Ex Dem Cars 6 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I've just bought a Diesel Honda Crv, almost 5 months old, from a Honda Dealer. The car has 3000 miles on the clock and was, in my opinion, a bargain. When I collected it the saleperson informed me that the director could not release the V5 yet as they had not kept the car as a demonstrater for long enough.
  • HPi checking a car 16 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Anyone got any recommendations? Also, does anyone know if the Car Watch UK one is as good as the HPi check for £38? I know the old "get what you pay for" probably applies but I don't see how checking a database can be done better by one firm than another. Blue
  • Cheap insurance for second car. Help! 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Here is the problem. New Renault Scenic arrives today, to replace my nearly 10 year old BMW 318. My wife has her own car,and we swap between them. I thought I might hang on to the BMW, for sentimental reasons, and as an emergency spare car, as it is in good order mechanically. To insure it apparantly means going back to 1 year NCB, even though we both have maximum protected NCBs. 3rd party is over £500 per year, the car is worth £1500 at best, and we would only do 3-4k miles a year in it.
  • Insured to the nearest minute? 8 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I am in the process of changing my car and was surprised when I contacted my insurer today to arrange a cover note. The insurer wanted to know not only what day I was changing the car, but also the exact time - I was warned that this was important and if I was incorrect I would not be covered (horrible image of being delayed en route to collect new car and finding myself driving without insurance, or being unable to drive old car to dealer to collect replacement).
  • Poor starting - Mondeo 1.8 lx 14 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I've been out tonight and the lights are dimming on cranking the engine, but would a failing battery account for the wipers and central locking activating on their own?? As far as I'm aware the car has the original battery (car now 6 years old). All help appreciated.
  • Family Saloon Car 10 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I have the shock horror situation of trading in my much loved and only recently bought Alfa 147 3 dr for a more practical family car, eg one that I can get a pram in as opposed to one large shopping bag. I have roughly £10k and am steering away from a brand new car, maybe 1 up to 2 years old, I was thinking along the lines of a Citreon C5 read various reports, Vectra, new Astra or Mazda 6, the £10k I fear would need to be flexible for some of the cars mentioned, could I have a bit of guidance, mileage is not an issue as I don't do a great deal!
