Quake expectations 25 Jul 2009 (Ask HJ)
I could not agree more about your comments relating to speed cushions. I live in a conservation area festooned with humps and cushions due to an infant... -
Goodwood Festival of Speed 19 Jul 2009 (Forum)
There was a line of beautiful vintage Bugattis, an Aston Martin Bulldog and a strange collection of mini specials. Rally cars being driven on their special forest stage included an Audi Quatro, mini, MkII Escort, Lancia Stratos and Skoda Estelle. There was almost too much to take in but the display by the Eurofighter Typhoon produced some lovely noises and appeared to defy the laws of physics. -

Bargain of the day 6 Jan 2025 (Forum)
SWMBO has reclaimed her car (Leo the Leaf) because it has isofix in the front passenger seat and mini swmbo likes to be beside mum whilst being chauffeured around, so I am now back to using the C class for commuting purposes and I’m really missing the Leaf for its simplicity and running costs and I’ve been looking at used examples where many a bargain lurks. -

Hifi, wifi, sci-fi 27 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I hope someone familiar with the 21st century can help me out. I have an ipod touch, not the latest, with my music library on it. I have an Arcam solo mini hifi. I can drive the hifi from the ipod using a cable from the headphone socket to an aux port on the hifi. Sound qulaity is first rate. I want to do this wirelessly. How? I think i can buy a bluetooth dongle, plug it in to an aux port on the hifi, then enable bluetooth on the ipod, connect to the dongle, run the music app on the ipod, and bob's you uncle. -

I've done a search but can find nothing that looks like it. Anyone know the name - it's basically a car mini fuse wich has been replaced and has a spade connector from which you take your 12v feed. it's a neat idea but I can't seem to find them? Anyone know the name? Ta -

Choice between two classic cars (restoration). 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Anyway, I've had experience restoring classics, I used to help my Dad and his friend restore their old Land Rovers (Series II, IIA and III). But I'd like something different. My two ideals choices are the Mini, or the Beetle. Obviously two very different cars. I've done a lot of searching and there seems to be a good few of each within my budget that are roadworthy. Just in need of TLC etc. I'm willing to pay from £1,500-£2,500. -
BMW X6 SAC (2008 - ) - First view 17 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Stayed at a hotel near Reading yesterday that seemed to double up as a BMW/MINI showroom - corporate event I guess. Anyhow. They had parked in their lobby the new X6. It is absolutely hideous! Front looks like an X3/X5, interior is just the same as every 3-5-6-x3-x5 you've ever seen but the back end of it a a complete mess. -
Newest/most valuable car you've seen going to seed 29 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Whilst visiting my local chippy the other day (not the carpentry variety), I noticed a 03 plate BMW Mini, sitting in a corner of a driveway, gathering moss, with a variety of maturing weeds and plantlife growing up around its wheels and body work. It has obviously not been used in well over a year (maybe two), and is being allowed (scandalously) to rot. -
Citroen - New DS 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Nothing on the Citroen web-site but I do remember seeing some scoop photos in a French car mag a year or so ago, which I dismissed as nationalistic overload on the part of the journalists. Retro styling works for small cars (Mini, Beetle, 500) but I'm not sure it would work on larger cars with its different market. I suspect DS owners will be having a heart attack at the news! If true I pressume something on the C5/C6 floorpan, bit like a Mercedes CLS is related to an E-class. -
Parking on a very steep driveway 10 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I've just moved in to my new home, and it has got a very steep driveway. First night I parked on it, the handbrake on my Mini failed miserably to hold it in place, so I left it in gear which held it. Being a paranoid kind of guy, I've got visions of my car popping out of gear and rolling into the road. How secure is it to leave a car parked in gear? -
Alfa Romeo MiTo (2009 - ) - Any information on sale dates/prices 22 May 2008 (Forum)
Well its back to the drawing board for a new car and I think after some calculating finances we are prepared to spend around 10K on a chic car for SWMBO. We have had a MINI so preferably that one is out, the Fiat 500 is not her cup of tea and a bit too small. We have both seen pictures of the MiTo and like the look and as a closet Alfa fan I am more than happy to spend some money on a car for her that I like as well! -
Puzzling driving test question 21 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Model answer "Demonstrate by applying parking brake that when it is fully applied it secures itself, and is not at the end of the working travel." Its that last bit that's odd. I haven't had a car since an original Mini on which you could readily see any adjustment mechanism that might (even then stretching a point) indicate you were "at the end of the working travel". In practice I'd always base it on feel, angle (on a familiar car) and number of clicks. -
"The News" section on this site. 5 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I mean wasn't it just the other week we had a fantastic 'news item' from one company which said 'Research shows that car buyers are prepared to pay less for high mileage cars'. Really? Fancy that. Today another, which prompted this mini-rant: 'Drivers 'lose out due to vehicle depreciation' Really. Depreciation? Costs new car buyers money? Fancy that. Can we have a return to sensible, intelligent news? Failing that can we be honest and rename it to 'Advertisiments and Press Releases'. -
Clean sheet car designs. 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I think the Mercedes A-class and the Smart owed nothing to previous designs. Cars that don't count include the Mini and Morris Minor, since they borrowed engines from existing models. What other clean-sheet cars can people come up with? It wasn't meant to say 'Rover' in the title but it forced me to choose a make before I could post! -
How much power do you want and why? 26 Oct 2007 (Forum)
For me, I`m happy with little, contrasted with todays cars. Why? Well my first `car`was an 850cc Mini van back in the 60`s. You were really aware of hills and Shap fell on the M6 used to really take the speed off. I can remember years of climbing the M62 eastbound over the pennines at 40MPH in 3rd gear.
