Early start
My son has just turned sixteen and I have offered him car driving lessons for a birthday present. He is a pretty good 'back seat' driver, but I would like him to get some safe but realistic experience before he is turned loose on the motoring public at large. I was fortunate enough when I was sixteen (in the Days of Yore) to have been able to attend the Harrow Driving Centre, run by the London Borough of Harrow, and three years later to attend an Advanced Motorists Course there, too. Are there any other similar local authority-run schemes available in North- or South-West London or, perhaps, private 'off-road' schemes in, say, Surrey, Middlesex, Hampshire or Berkshire, please?

www.mbdrivingacademy.com at Mercedes Benz World, Brooklands, Weybridge, Surrey. By far the best in the London area. It has been conclusively proven throughout Europe that the sooner a youngster learns to drive then the safer driver he or she will be. Another similar scheme using MINIs has just started at the Goodwood circuit (www.goodwood.com/minidrivers)
