  • flashing blue lights 20 Feb 2004 (Forum)
As the car went past (slowly) I noticed that it was a BMW with the projector style headlights, as he came up behind the car in front (daul carrigeway) it moved over quite quickly - I guess thinking that it was an agressive driver wanting to get past. Every tiny bump in the road seemed to cause the lights to flash, I have an audi with these style headlights and I'm sure mine don't flash like that. Is this a new feature for BM's - automatic flashing blue lights?
  • oil in water 10 May 2003 (Forum)
Just found oily sludge in the expansion/top-up tank of my Audi 2.5 TDi (1994). Oil filler cap and dipstick still nice and clean, and no unusual smoking from exhaust. Flushed the water system and went for a spin (1 hr) and remained quite clean, so its a slow leak.
  • Car reliability survey 14 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Perhaps more interesting were the bunch propping up the foot of the table which were, I believe: Fiat (worst), Daewoo, Peugeot, Lotus, Kia, Land Rover, Vauxhall, Citroen, Renault, Suzuki. The French not looking too good eh ! Audi were in at 10 and Skoda at 6 I think but VW were down at 24. Overall the Mazda 6 was voted as the best car apparently. Can anyone give more details.
  • Speedo problem 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have recently bought an Audi 80 S2. I've noticed on a few occasions that the speedo responds very strangly to rapid acceleration or deceleration. If I am driving at 60mph and slow to 30mph quickly, the speedo will stay at 60 until I have stopped decelerating and then drop to 30.
  • Badge Snobbery 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Me, I saved 14 grand of my own money and I'm quite content. And no I'm not telling but my wife reckons its at least as good as her Audi A6.
  • Hidden benefits 20 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I have now owned my Audi for 9 months, and only this week have I discovered that it has heated wing mirrors. They run off the same switch as the heated rear window (which doesn't work terribly well, so I don't normally bother with it).

  • VAG TDi engine reliability 1 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I have had an A4 TDi 90 for two months, it had done 104,000 miles and I've put another 3000 enjoyable miles on it since. Has anyone got any tips about maintenance, that goes further than Audi and Haynes manuals? I'm already doing 5,000 mile oil changes like the last owner. I plan to keep it a long time if it's viable so preventative maintenance is well worthwhile. I'm looking for a good garage in either the Harrogate or Carlisle area, I live in one town and work in the other.
  • Honda Accord/Lexus IS200 anyone? 8 Jun 2001 (Forum)
I am looking at getting out of the company car scheme, and buy privately. I had thought about a VW or Audi until I read some threads in this forum. I had a Honda Accord 10 yrs ago and loved it, but what about the current 2001 car? Is it as trouble free as my old one was, is it good on long runs, and in particular is quiet?
  • 1998 A6 1.8T Groaning 30 Apr 2001 (Forum)
The squeaking is related to up and down movement of the vehicle, the groaning from forward motion. Dane Audi at chester diagnosed a suspension arm without looking or listening to the vehicle! Their cure in excess of £300. I wouldn't mind but telepathic fault diagnosis does not instil confidence. Anyone had anything similar?
  • Automec brake fluid 5 Feb 2001 (Forum)
What's going on? Is it really OK to use on cars with ABS, ASP etc? I was intending to use it on our Rover 214 and Audi A8. Kind regards, Max Brown.
  • VW Group cars - Leaking panoramic sunroofs 17 May 2024 (Forum)
My colleague has recently paid £2500 to have the panoramic roof replaced on his 17 plate Audi Allroad. He waited 3 months for the parts to arrange and the dealer took 4 days to complete the repair although some minor parts are still outstanding. But according to the Telegraph this fault affects all VAG cars .
  • All makes - Annoying rattles knocks and squeaks 27 Mar 2024 (Forum)
But Japanese cars seem to suffer from creaks and groans from cheap plastic panels . But to me the car that had no irritating noises throughout its life was my Audi A4 and I understand that this is a feature of this marque ?
  • I do apologise, but I bought an auris 21 Jun 2020 (Forum)
I tried not to but I needed a comfortable 5 door hatchback to transport my elderly parents. The car mags told me buy a golf or audi so I could throw it round corners but locally they were about 5 or6K more for similar age milage and spec. The auris bought from a local Toyota main dealer has 2 years warranty 1 owner7k miles as new condition a 1.2 turbo engine that does 0 - 60 in 10secs 30£ tax and a very quiet smooth ride.
  • New Tesla 3 - Real MPG 26 Aug 2019 (Forum)
Perhaps he could start with the new Tesla 3  which according to Whatcar is some 27% shy of Tesla figures in the real world ie some 90miles out of a claimed 329.  Similar figures are for Hyundai and Audi and the rest. These figures are  more of a joke then the fossil fuel ones. I won't be buying one any time soon or the hybrids the range or the prices just do not make sense  Who wants 2 engines as with the hybrids and when they  add the combined BHP together as a marketing tool well who are they trying to convince?
  • Mini 2014 Autumn - Parkers Valuations 17 Aug 2017 (Forum)
With all the many extras added to give me a more refined and precise valuation Parkers puts my car at £13,167; I have been offered £10,800 by Audi as Part x and £10,300 by Mini ditto. A single dealer has contacted me through Tootle and offered £9,875 and your site tells me it's value is £9,739 although this was not based on a tailored estimate.
  • Volkswagen Golf - VAG TSI/TFSI timing chain issues 5 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking at potentially buying an Audi or VAG TSI car for around £3500-5000 I have read all of these have timing chain issues. I’m mainly looking at the 1.4 TSI or 1.8 TSI. Potentially the 2.0 TSI, although I’d prefer the lower tax and better fuel economy of the smaller engines.
  • Ford Mustang - Mustang - Not quite as safe as it could be 5 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Recently, as part of my midlife crisis, in considering a soft top, I looked at Mustang (not bought yet, but will probably be Audi A5), his regarss and detailing crash testing, makes potentially worrying reading, should you own one and ever have a nasty bump in it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU9ixQVwCRE His reviews are as I say, sometimes a little crude, to say the least.
  • High (ish) mileage diesels - risk or bargain? 14 Aug 2011 (Forum)
In my perpetually restless state of mind I am really considering the possibility of buying a 4 year old diesel Audi/BMW with around 60k on the clock.  Both are one owner cars, tidy with full dealer service history but I have previously only ever bought low mileage cars. The dealers party line is that '60k is nothing on one of these' but it's not just the engine is it?
