  • Cleaning windscreen with potato 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
And do i need to be careful how much pressure i use with this stuff? I remember nearly polishing an audi i had down to the metal with t-cut because the paint had oxidised so bad. Ben
  • Car Magazine South Africa 20 May 2003 (Forum)
Well, Ian, got the mag and the Hertz Mustang GT350 article. What a car eh? Makes most of the rest in the mag look pretty feeble, unless you count the new Audi. Thanks much. The writer knows his stuff. The real "Gone in Sixty Seconds" movie was indeed made in 1974, not that feeble Nicolas Cage follow-up. The script was written in 2 hours and the 40 minute chase destroyed 93 cars, it is said.
  • SORN!! 21 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I bought an Audi 80 on 15 February 2003 which was untaxed. Before driving it on a public road I ascertained that the cylinder head gasket was gone. The person I bought the car from didn't want to know so I traded the car into a dealer about a month later (and yes he knew about the problem).
  • Dayglo Jackets/vests 16 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi all I have noticed a lot of people seem to be "pretending" to be Police officers by putting these yellow fluorescent jackets and vests on the rear parcel shelf , so that its visible from behind.Cars vary from clapped out Sierras to one I saw today which was a newish Audi A8. Why do they do this? Do they think it looks cool or do they presume that no one will cut them up or tailgate them? Dont they know if the car they were in was a real unmarked Police car then all you would probably see would be a few extra aerials!
  • Big diesel towcar? 23 Jul 2002 (Forum)
So now we are on the lookout for a big diesel that will tow a large caravan and still be relatively economical for day to day use. The budget is as cheap as possible. Under £4k. I have suggested Audi 100 2.5TDI and Volvo 850 TDI. Any other suggestions?
  • Elderly cats 3 May 2002 (Forum)
The emissions figures for my 12 year old, 140,000 mile Audi were CO 0.09%, HC 78ppm. Minimum even for a post 1992 vehicle is 0.3% / 200 ppm, although my car gets tested on the older standards (3.5% / 1200ppm). So presumably the catalytic converter is working just fine.
  • 90 or 110 TDI? 22 May 2001 (Forum)
I am currently looking to purchase a Audi / VW / Seat TDI. I am after a bit of help when trying to identify if the car is a 90 or 110 BHP model. I have just had the situation where I have been to look at a car, and was told it was the 110 model, but after a 35 mile drive to see / test drive the car I found the engine to be very flat in power for a 110 (either had a hard life or it was a 90).
  • BMW, Audi, Lexus - What to Choose??? 27 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I've done some calculating and over 5 years at about 15000 miles a year all three cars are almost identical in cost, this is taking into acount the cheep is250 but with higher running costs and the higher initial cost of the other two but with lower TAX and running cost.  I'm not sure on the Jags and Mercs to be honest as they are more common but so are the audi's.  Anyway I think that's enough info to be getting on with, so, what do you think? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • Audi A6 Avant - Car sold with misfire but garage reluctant to help 25 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Recently I had the cambelt changed at an Audi main dealer and their inspection turned up nothing untoward except normal wear and tear on the suspension and brakes. There is one problem that I have yet to get rectified though - the engine misfires when running on LPG.
  • Aston Martin V8 Vantage - Advice pls: Vantage 4.3 / Jaguar XKR 12 Apr 2017 (Forum)
But I wonder in real life what the extra parts would be 2) The Jag is auto - does this mean it won't get off the lights straight away (like my Audi TT which annoyingly waits a split second unless I use launch control)? 3) With the Jag I can either get XKR 4.2  or XKR-S which is faster but dearer. Or the 5.0 XKR which is similar price to XKR-S btu similar speed because better engine.
  • Best car for London 30 Jan 2017 (Forum)
It's an unusual list and only contains 4 that I think I can spec up to a level to be acceptable - the main manufacturers are Mini, Toyota, Renault, Audi/VW. I think with all the stop-start I do in London the time is for automatic, so with that in mind it's down to: MINI Cooper auto media pepper Audi A1 1.0 DSG7 Sport + tech + comfort pack Toyota CHR hybrid Icon (basic) VW polo r line 1.0 dsg/1.4 BlueGT DSG (+opts) I've test driven the CHR in a higher spec but didn't like it on the motorway and thought visibility was poor so it's trailing a bit but I do love the look and reliability. The Polo I drove was the 1.0 with the dsg and that seemed smooth enough so made me question whether I needed the bluegt.
  • Struggling on which used car to buy next 28 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Not vital but when combined with the full length sunroof, gives a tremendous feeling of space in the cabin. Cars I have considered: Passat Estate and Audi A4 (too long) Audi A3 - too small in the back for the children Focus - not sure - they seem a little characterless. Perhaps a high spec one with leather interior? Any advice as to what I could go look at?

  • Car suggestions 22 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Disadvantages - not as nice to look at as the other suggestions, interior a bit dull, badge. Golf GT 1.4 170 or GTI (realise I may have to increase my budget a bit for one though) Audi A3 (again probably over budget and overpriced so will probably discount) Obviously prefer the golf or audi over the Skoda but then is it worth the extra for a nicer interior / image? I assume the ride and handling will be similar on all 3?

  • Family car for a horsey type 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi We need a new family car We are a one car family so it must be a do-it-all Since we bought the last one we have acquired 2 kids and a horse The main driver is a keen petrolhead The rest of the family just want something comfortable to potter around town and go away for the weekend in The complicating factor is that it now needs to be able to tow as well as traverse a steep muddy rutted rocky farmyard on a regular basis, this is currently destroying our present car Im at a loss as to what will fit the bill An Audi Allroad seems obvious but until this month they fail miserably on CO2 emmissions and hence VED I want a 6-18 month old car to lessen the depreciation shocker It will be kept for several years so after I buy it Im not massively worried about further losses On the other hand it must be reliable (bye bye Disco3) because as its our only car we just cant have it laid up for days on end when it breaks down Budget flexible 30k should buy most things I can think of at 18 months old The Audi is the safe option if a little dull A stonking V8 (petrol or diesel) will sort my midlife crisis even if its a 4x4 - I dont care about VED or running costs if its 'cheap' to start with as it will be kept for years And a knackered Defender and an A6 wagon etc is an option we have considered but we really only want one car :) Any ideas - Im spoiled for choice in the current market Anything to a 65k Merc GL or a RR can be had for a stupendous discount at the age Im looking at, the thing with the RR would have to be reliability......
  • Octavia or 159? 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
The Audi and BMW are both significantly more expensive. So, we now have a head vs heart decision, the Alfa or the Skoda? We've looked at both, but test driven neither yet. Both of us love the styling of the Alfa, and as this is a fully maintained/insured lease deal, the reliability concerns are less.
