General Question - Brake pad shims 28 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Is this because they are not deemed necessary anymore? I always fit the old ones. Is this correct? had to put Citroen because computer asked for a make but this is a general question. {edited - DD} -
Happy with your car? 6 Oct 2007 (Forum)
There seems a lot of bashing of certain makes of car and I wondered if roomers experience of their car corresponded with the knocking. Citroen for one get fearful criticism but other back roomers seem perfectly happy with theirs and you see quite a few used as taxis which must be a hard life. -
C3 brake pad replace - any pitfalls? 15 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Just about to replace the front pads on a 2002 Citroen C3 1.4 HDi and bleed the brakes. Straightforward or problematic? I've no manual but some experience. Is bleeding straightforward or is there a secret nipple eg on the ABS block? TIA. Hawkeye ----------------------------- Stranger in a strange land -
Which cars have speed limiters? 27 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I can only think of the Citroen C4 and C5 which prevent you accelerating past a user-determined speed unless you press the accelerator all the way down. Can anyone else think of any other cars? Thanks Ben -

New C5 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I received an information pack from Citroen today on the new C5. I am a bit disappointed to see that the new six speed auto box, that is in the V6, has not found its way into the 2.2HDI. It would benefit from at least a five speed box, as it is not happy below 50 mph in 4th gear. -
Pug 306 Cylinder head 15 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Hi, I am about to replace the cylinder head on a M-reg 306DT. Does anybody know which of the Pug/Citroen varients have the same head? I.e. Pug405DT? I am sure a 405 head will be cheaper at the scrapyard than a 306 head. Thanks -
Rover Diesel Engines 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The top of the engine is heavily shrouded which makes identifing the engine manufacturer difficult. Handbook says Rover, but I suspect it is originated by either Peugeot, Citroen or Perkins. Any ideas? -
Electrolytic Effect 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Folks, The Citroen XM seems to have a reputation for eating radiators and heater matrices due to "the elctrolytic effect". That is, as I understand it, a "battery" effect between two metals eats away at one of them/ both of them. -
What's the best economy car? 2 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Hi all just wondered whether anyone knows what car is currently offering best MPG or MPL? on petrol, diesel and LPG. I heard of a new Citroen giving 67mpg which is quite something? Are there any other serious contenders which are commerically available? -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - Engine warning light 26 Jan 2019 (Forum)
I have had the car for c1 year (2015 plate), it has covered 42k miles, is fully serviced and does short 20 min motorway runs and to local town every day averaging 50 mpg. The Citroen garage has replaced the fuel filter twice, the first time after the car completely dumped all the diesel over the road and wouldn’t restart on after stopping. It is currently in said garage where and apparently it showed up a fuel line code but then they couldn't find anything physically wrong. -
Citroen Relay - Van Smoking Heavily! Please help 19 May 2015 (Forum)
Hi everyone. Unfortunately I have a 2008 Citroen Relay, which uses the 2.2 Ford Transit/Mondeo engine. It is very poorly at the minute, and I was wondering if anybody could point me in the right direction. When you first start it, it misfires like hell, and bellows white/light grey smoke (which has a tinge of blue to it), when I say bellows, I mean fills the street. -
Looking for no nonsense load swallower 18 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I have considered a used Grand Renault Espace or Peugeot 5008, but am put off by general negative reputation of these makes. I have a Citroen which I have put 176k miles on from new, so am not afraid of going French, or something non Germanic. But I do want something that is reliable and reasonably low maintenance - the Citroen is serviced every 20k miles at Halfords and has not let me down (touch wood). -
Citroen Xsara Picasso Diesel - Can't engage fifth gear 26 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Anybody got any info. on this and whether this is a gearbox out situation or an in-situ repair (cost etc.)? I have a choice of a generally competent local garage or drving the car to the Citroen main dealer near where I work but 40 miles away (who have also done good work for me on occasions). Obviously the main dealer might have more specialised knowledge but I am concerned about driving the car so far if I am unsure what the problem is. -
Car with similar performance of Citroen C3Airdream 8 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I need some advice on buying a car for my daily commute. I have a Citroen C3 Airdream 1.6 Diesel that I was using for the last 3 years (20K miles every year) with an average mileage of 55-60MPG at speeds 70-90MPH. My daily journey is 50 miles + 50 miles (only on motorway and A roads) and I'm quite satisfied with my current car except manoeuvres. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso - Consider buying or walk away? 17 May 2013 (Forum)
We can't travel too far as we have twin toddlers who are a handful! This particular one has low mileage (64,000), FSH with Citroen dealer and extended warranty til Feb 2014 (can be transferred to us). It also has a lovely panoramic sunroof that I love. It's a 1.6i 16v petrol but we aren't bothered about engine size or fuel. -
Citroen C2 - insurers refusing to pay for repairs :( 14 Apr 2012 (Forum)
My insurers the contacted me to say that the repirers had stated that they did not believe that the accident could cause power steering failure. Citroen garage then contacted my insurer for me to say that any damage to the front of the vehicle could actually cause the damage. My insurers then instructed an independent engineer to check the car and he has stated that he thought the previous bad repairs were the fault and therefore the insurance company will not pay out. -
Citroen AX (1987 -1997) - 96 954cc poor braking 17 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i have just been given a citroen ax dimension 954cc with the Teves calipers, when braking even at low speeds the brakes seem quite inafective even if i stomp on them as if trying to do an emergency stop, the car just gradually slows to a stop as if there isn't enough friction, and it takes quite some pedal pressure. -
Most influence on your spannering? 25 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Popular Mechanics and Practical Motorist helped me and when I finally lost it completely and bought my first hydraulic Citroen, the Citroen Car Club mag was invaluable next to the Haynes manual. Citroen Car Club meetings would have a resident expert who would dispense wise words if you could get near him. For those of you that like or liked getting your hands dirty, which book(s) or magazine(s) have helped you most in your lifetime of oily skinned knuckles, crucial lost widgets and foul language? -
All part of the (Citroen ) Service? 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Thought I would take advantage and asked him about unheated swimming pool in back of car - he didn't know but Citroen Sud were the "carosserie" experts. Drove round by-pass to the biggest garage on earth, nice "atelier" said what was the problem - I showed him the swimming pool. He poured water into the sunroof (I suspected as much) and cured the problem in about an hour after removing headlining etc.
