  • Motorway driving skills 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I quote "Driving down the M20 in very wet conditions recently , I hit a large puddle at 70mph. My BMW 325i aquaplaned , then skidded violently , Only luck and the absence of other road users avoided a potentially serious accident" Taken from this weeks Saturday column .
  • Getting a new vehicle registered. 14 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I was thinking about those scavengers on the Devon beach who took the BMW motorcycles from the stricken container ship. How would they manage to get it registered with DVLA without any documents, bill of sale etc? And no I am not one of those guys, just curious.
  • Z4 or not 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Some sort of mid life crisis going on here but I am tempted by the Z4 for a two contract hire deal - 2.0se, mainly for the fun of it, top down etc. The difference in price between contract hire over 2 years from an independent company and BMW franchised is £190 per month - is there a catch? Is the car a lemon?
  • Servicing Intervals - why the difference 26 Apr 2006 (Forum)
A comment on the Omega thread about the BMW 2.5 engine needing servicing every 6,000 prompts the question, how can essentially the same technology as used for example in my 2.5 Subaru engine (which requires 12,000 mile servicing) produce such a difference in maintenance requirements?

  • Auction View subscribers 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi any auction view subscribers this is a bit of a cheeky request but I would like to know the sale prices achieved in the BMW auction at Brighouse today. I would be willing to make a payment (via paypal is probably easiest) to the heplful back roomer if this is possible. Many thanks in advance
  • X5 Wheels 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Does anyone know anywhere in the Kent/SE London area where I could get a set of 17" Style 57 Star Spoke alloys? Other than through a BMW dealer. I've tried Google but it mainly keeps bringing up the wheels as part of some ads for the car itself.
  • ebay bargains? 12 Feb 2005 (Forum)
just joined ebay so I'm a bit of a virgin (if that's possible)but am I being naive in thinking I can pick up a 10 year old luxury car for a couple of grand or are they just money pits. A BMW 740 with 100K on the clock for a £2k is surely worth a punt isn't it?
  • Ta Ta Rover and Out 22 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Only MG Rover could make their face-lifted models even more undesirable than the previous versions. Judging by the September sales figures - NOBODY likes them. Well done lads! If I were BMW I would be asking for my money back.
  • Calling Mini Cooper Owners 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
A friend is interested in a new Cooper (non S) and needs an auto. A BMW dealer has planted some doubt in her mind by suggesting that the fuel consumption is the wrong side of 20 mpg! The figures (mixed driving) suggest otherwise. Anybody got any experience of this one?
  • So what? 29 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I see the BMW Z-4 in the banner ad can struggle to 62 mph in 6.3 seconds. My 1961 Triumph Bonneville T120R 40 years ago would break that barrier in 100 yards in 2nd gear. I've still got the Motorcycle mag road test somewhere to prove it.
  • Vauxhall Omega Diesel 2 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Anyone know what causes my Omega 2.5 TD bmw engine not to rev smoothly. If i try to hold it at a steady speed in nuetral it rev up and down. Also the tickover will suddenly jump to 1500 rpm instead of running smoothly at 500rpm, a real problem with an automatic thanks
  • MINI "Cooper" 5 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I admit I am a complete BMWphobe, but does the COOPER badge on the latest bavarian made wheelybin grate with anyone else. A travesty to the late John Coopers' memory in my own humble opinion. But then BMW have got to have the greatest advertising team on the planet...... slightly :-]
  • BMW X3 - X3 Long Term reliability? 4 Jan 2023 (Forum)
The lead time for a new Civic is anything between 6 to 8 months which takes me to the point in the year where the X3 requires that amount of money spending. So - any thoughts as to the degree of (albeit subjective) risk in keeping the BMW if well maintained vs a new Civic, along with any real world experience of running an X3 long term would be appreciated. Thank you.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring - My 11 year old diesel 3 series touring 26 Aug 2019 (Forum)
I've come to the conclusion that however nice, a brand new car is a bit silly at my mileage, so maybe a nice used car. BMWs are nice but the newer 3 series are even bigger than my E91, which is big enough, and nowhere near as nice to drive. I want something reliable, and Hondas and Toyotas are often recommended as good used buys.
  • BMW E21 - distributor and poor running 30 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi All, I'm in awe of the wisdom here! I hope someone can help because I?ve run out of knowledge! I've got an M10 engined 1776cc BMW E21(love it and the rust it came with for free) and have got a gremlin. Since I bought it it's stuttered (loss of power) under moderate/ hard acceleration but I can get it to higher rpms (though not max) if I let the revs build gently (slamming my right foot down makes it stutter a hell of a lot and i slow down).
  • 'unsafe' car purchased - Advice needed 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Hi There, My sister got a BMW 316 from deleted because of the 'no naming / shaming' rule {edit by DD} 4 weeks ago however a couple of days ago when she was driving round a small round about she lost the front end and nearly went off the road.
  • BMW 330i sport auto convertible 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Reason being I have seen a 330i sport auto rag top and would appreciate views. 2003 03 plate, miles 13500 ---- looks genuine -- car is very clean with no sign of wear and no stone chips etc, but I guess these thngs wear very well. BMW SH but as expected only one service at 8500. I'm told it has M Sport options - it has the M Sport badges on the door sills. 4 brand new tyres (Dunlop something or other) Would new tyres be need after 13k miles?
  • BMW Cam lifters 9 Jun 2003 (Forum)
This may have come up before but I am a little perplexed with what could be going on here. I have a 1990 BMW E30 (318i) with an M40 engine. I service the car myself completely since I have owned it and have always used the onboard service indicator to determine when the service is due. On the most recent oil change I noticed the valve gear to be unusually noisy (The car has done 146K).
  • The Third Way? 26 Mar 2002 (Forum)
We note as expected the serious stuff like the Dodges, Fords, big Toyotas, Nissans etc. And then we come to the BMW. Or what I took at first sight to be a restored 1996 Kia Sportage till I saw the badge and the price. Is it a 4WD? Well it says so, but the Honda CR-V looks more the part and I wouldn't call that a proper 4WD.
