Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 96 1.8i rev drop 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hope you can help, When driving in second, third or fourth gear, the revs drop as if there is no fuel getting to the engine, this also happens when you go to stop the car and put your foot on the clutch the revs drop to around 500 and then picks back up..I have changed the fuel filter. It just feels as if the petrol tank is empty or is about to run out of petrol...Just a thought when the spluttering is going on if you change gear up or down then the engine picks up fine... -

Biodiesel content to go from 5% to 7%? 24 Mar 2009 (Forum)
According to an article in Commercial Motor, the average percentage of biodiesel is 4.4%, nominal maximum is 5%. However, MAN's UK service chief claims random samples have shown as much as 10% bio in fuel, which exceeds engine manufacturers' approval level. It seems that the permitted maximum is due to rise to 7%, which may lead to more problems. (Some truck operators find that oil and filter changes are needed more often and some have had issues with sludge and algae in fuel since using biodiesel, though this is blamed on storage, as it is presumed OK as it leaves the refinery). -
Peugeot 607 (2000 - ) - 01 2.2 Will not start 6 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have a 2001 PEUGEOT 607 2.2 HDI this morning I was driving along hit a pothole at approx 20-25mph on the right front wheel. Immediately the car lost all power, then refused to start. Fuel supply cut-off switch was not activated. It trys to start but its as if its starved of fuel. RAC turned up and stated it was definately a pump problem as the car was starting when sure start was sprayed throught the air intake. -
Peugeot Partner Combi (2001 - 2004) - 03 2.0HDi Judder under load? 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
It is definitely not 'rotational' because when I put it into neutral it dissapears. I wonder if the problem is in the fuel system. Could the fuel I bought have been contaminated and affected the filter, injectors, metering or something else? Any ideas, because I am baffled?? Thanks Chouxfleur -
Alfa Romeo GT Coupe (2004 - ) - 08 1.9 Bio Diesel 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The company that remapped the ECU specialize in racing diesel cars and they have said there should be no probs. What do people think about this considering its almost brand new, i intend to renew the fuel filter after using biodiesel for the first time. The fuel cost 96 pence a litre and will be delivered to my home for free! Is this too good to be true? Kush -

Weight of petrol 30 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Something they said while I was watching the F1 GP this afternoon (just before I dropped off) about fuel being measured by weight (I suppose the pedants may point out they meant mass). If I understood them correctly, the energy available is proportional to the weight of the fuel, not the volume, because of the amount it expands due to temperature. -

Land Rover Defender (1946 - ) - SWB Series 2A Petrol tank corrosion (front fill) 6 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I need to replece the tank on my old petrol Land Rover as the inside is so full of rust and what looks like green slime that it keeps blocking the fuel filters and clogging up the carb. The outside of the tank is fine - the corrosion is on the inside. As the tank is steel is there any way of treating the inside to prevent this? I normally keep the tank almost full and only use good brands of fuel. -
Mercedes Benz - starting problems 12 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Mercedes C240 ,Starting problems. When starting the engine turns for a long time sounding like a carb engine with the choke not working. If you stop engine then start again its ok,but leave for an hour or so the engine takes a long time to start. Its like this 8 out of ten times of starting. It has been to a bosch fuel injection specialist and he says its not electrical as the diagnostic equipment does not show up a fault. The general consensus of opinion seems to be fuel pump. Please can I have your ideas please before I give this particular merc` a Viking funeral. -
Texaco petrol 2 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I have seen BP Ultimate and Shell Optimax but ignored them due to not needing the 99 octane properties, but would use a 95 octane fuel that is high detergent. Checked the website and found that Chevron now run Texaco. Thanks -

Lorries and overtaking 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Now we all know there are far to many foreign lories on our roads, not only fully loaded up with their goods but also to the brim with cheap fuel, making Dover's hills nigh on impossible to overtake in under a few miles. Isn't it now time for all lorries to be weighed on arrival in Britain, load + fuel, and on departure, and an amount charged pro rata for the use and destruction of our roads. -
Using bio diesel in Honda civic 2.2 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I can't find any information on the internet about using bio diesel in the new Honda engines. Although I would normally try anything once it's a big risk deliberately putting the wrong fuel in a brand new car. Does anyone know of any reason why it should be any less suitable for bio fuel? Any thoughts or comments welcomed. -

coasting in neutral 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
My route to work is pretty hilly and on some of the gentler downhill slops I tend to drop the car into neutral to let it coast along around the speed limit, with the aim of saving a little fuel. In some of these situations if I was to put it in gear with foot off throtle the engine braking effect would be too great thus requiring use of the throttle and a waste of fuel. Is there anyting wrong with coasting along in neutral, both in mechanical and bad driving practice terms?
