  • MINI Cooper - Mini DCT automatic 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
She's considering either a Mini Cooper or a Mercedes A180 petrol. Both would have to be automatics as that's all she can drive. I understand both cars use a 7 speed DCT automatic box which as far as I can tell is supplied by Getrag. I have read reports of the A class being slow to pull out from junctions. We did test drive the A class but they only had a diesel & I found that difficult to pull out smoothly.
  • VW Polo 1.2 E 2003 - 1.2 Polo Disapeering oil 26 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Anyway I rang the dealer as the car has 1 month warranty, and he said top it up to full and drive it back to dealship 50 odd miles. Oil was still full when I got there so he said keep driving it and keeping an eye on it. Im probably jumping the gun with this post and need to wait out the next week or so as I clock up the milage & keep checking the oil.
  • First timer - nissan 25 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Looking for something automatic and  petrol between 1.6 and 2.0litre that'll be half decent for city driving, plus useful on all the nsl's and DC's near Brighton, whilst also being suitable for drives to the likes of Windsor / Kent and occasional drives to Dorset and Manchester without being too painful when filling up.

Regarding the item on the Suzuki Celerio's fuel economy, I can add the following... I used to drive a 2013 Kia Picanto 1.0L manual (same engines as Hyundai). I drive like the Pope's mother and the best that I could get out of it was roughly 55 mpg (averaged over 18,000 miles). This was a real disappointment as it was worse than my old 2006 Daihatsu Sirion and the wife's 2005 Aygo MMT (both gave around 60 mpg).

  • Citroen Berlingo, Drive the Deal, Carwow - Problems with online brokers 15 Jul 2015 (Forum)
In June I saw an offer on the HJ website from Drive the Deal for the exact car I wanted at £10495 so I placed an order. After some time it transpired that the dealer could not honour the price I had been quoted but could do it for @£12600 instead.
  • Kia Sportage - Stolen Car and Accused of Drink Driving 12 Mar 2015 (Forum)
Two weeks ago I decided to drive to the pub for a quick pint. Parked my car entered the pub, had a pint and then decided to leave the car and have a couple of pints on a short pub crawl. After three pints in three different pubs, I walked home.

  • Best MPG automatic 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
You might be used to it, but for me, it was new and fun. And made my dives more relaxing. And being rather tall, its driving position was good with its seat adjustment. So, cheap to run and easy to drive and rather quiet. That's what I am looking for. I've checked the 10 best small car in HJ, and the Micra comes last.
  • Ford Focus - Vibration wobble under load 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
HI can any one help, had my mk1 focus for 12 years 83,000 milesnow and the last two years it has a fault thats geting slowly worse. the car only vibrates/wobbles under load 45mph+. no vibration through the steering but is felt through the whole car. the more weight is in the car and the more load it is under it gets worse. as soon as the throttle is release the vibration goes. i have had new tyres fitted, another two wheels fitted as found buckles in them. wheels balanced and tracking done, o/s drive shaft changed, new front disc and pads but alas its still there. the only thing i have noticed is when the near side front wheel is jacked up and the car is run at any speed in any gear and the brakes are applied the vibration comes apparant. if i put it in 1st 10mph with foot on throttle also on brake and  go as slow as i can it feels like something like thuding.. as soon as i release the brake the thuding stops, it doesn't do this when i do this on the drivers side. could it be drive shaft cv joints, final drive or gear box. any help please its driving me nuts!
  • Seat Leon Mk 1 TDI - Puff of white smoke on cold start-up 9 Apr 2013 (Forum)
My car is used infrequently and often sits for a week to 10 days between driving.  I've noticed I often get white smoke (as far as I can tell from the driving seat) from the exhaust for a few seconds after a cold start, and the engine seems to struggle to run smoothly for a couple of seconds while smoking.
  • Skoda Fabia 1.4 16V (2006) - Intermittent cutting out whilst driving - 22 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Hi All, My 2006 Skoda Fabia seems to have developed an intermittent technical fault that I hope someone might be able to advise on: On a couple of occasions over the past month or so, the car has spontaneously (and completely) cut out whilst driving (approx 30-40mph) - when this happens my power steering and brakes fail. On both occasions, I managed to slow the car using the handbrake and quickly turned the ignition key (whilst still driving) to get the car back into life again - luckily on both occasions I managed not to have an accident......
  • Q7di Q7 - 4x4 choices 3 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I recently took the Q7 for a drive and although it's a good, sturdy and solid drive, I feel it's a bit over-rated...seems to be a common thread for me on experiencing the drive...No doubt it's a good vehicle and all that sort of thing but I cannot escape whether it's truly a good buy.
  • Nissan Micra - What car to buy? 27 Nov 2011 (Forum)

  • Wedding Bells - idiot local driver! 23 Dec 2008 (Forum)
"Travelling at such great speeds in a busy residential area is reckless in the extreme and seems to indicate that this young man has no respect for other road users or even for someone else's property, because he was driving a hired vehicle." A police docket for the three separate charges of reckless and/or negligent driving had been opened at the Goodwood police. Latest news is that the bloke was arrested at home yesterday morning.
  • Learning to drive manual transmission--Question 5 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hey, y'all: Here's a story that might make you cringe: One day when I was seventeen and had recently got my driving licence, my dear father decided he was going to take me out in his car and teach me to drive a manual transmission. (I had taken all my behind-the-wheel training on automatic cars, so this was entirely new to me) So, we hopped in his '76 AMC Hornet station wagon and headed out on an empty frontage road in Minnesota.
