My mondeo has become a nightmare to drive when the engine is cold.
When I start the engine the car drives normally for about 60 seconds. After that if I stop at a junction or any other time I put the clutch down for more than a few seconds the car stalls and has diffculty firing up again. It carries on likre this for about 5 minutes until the engine warms. During this time the engine has very little power and I have to drive in 2nd to stand any chance of keeping to a resonable speed.
The car drives great when it's warm but it's becoming increaingly annoying when it stalls. Took several minutes to get it going again the other day after stalling. You can hear the engine turning and some times almost fires but i'm guessing it's not reaching the right mixture of fuel and air.
When the problem started it was intermitant at first but it now happens every time the car is used from a cold start.
Any ideas what it could be would be much appreciated.
I had a Mk1 mondeo that had the same problem and Ford charged me £300 to change the thermostat and still had the problem when I got it back! so as you can guess not keen to throw any more money away.
