Nissan Qashqai - Nissan CVT - is it any good post 2013? 15 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Hi Folks As my previous post a few months back, we are looking to change car to automatic due to heath reasons in the medium term. We'd initially discounted the Qashqai CVT but in this weeks Agony column there is a post that has an answer stating "..The Qashqai has a CVT auto that between 2011 and 2013 wasn't reliable. -
Audi A8 - Luxury motoring 19 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Having been through a series of PCP agreements I've decided to purchase my next car outright. Looking to spend around £25k. I'm after something luxurious, quickish, automatic, not "sporty" - I'm after comfort and speed. I had a Jaguar XF in 2010 from new and to date it was the best car I have driven. I'm looking at Audi A8 / A6 saloons and for £25k you can buy a fairly new car (2 years old) in 3.0L diesel guise with less than 30,000 miles - main dealer prices. -
VW Golf MK6 - DSG gearbox 13 Dec 2016 (Forum)
While doing this they told me they thought my gearbox which has only 40k on had a bearing issue. I hadnt noticed any issues noise or problems getting in gear however it is automatic. This went on for a whole day with them offering to send my gearbox away to be fixed butr couldnt quote me. They said my car was not even safe to drive which I find strange as I drove 150 miles Sunday with the DPF light on. -
Smart headlight 8 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Perhaps this is for the future driverless cars. If not, I can imagine many young drivers coming to rely on their ‘automatic’ headlights and the resultant accidents. But, why does a driverless car need headlights at all ? Can’t they have Daytime Running Lights so that they can be seen and rely on their radar. -
New car for Mrs Happy Blue? 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I think I could also tempt her into another Captur, as our family seem to like the one I have. Any other suggestions? She wants automatic, SatNav and a reversing camera and style/image is important to her, so suggesting a Kia Venga will not go down well.......Is a Mini Countryman a sensible option? -
Ford Focus C-MAX 1.6 TDCi auto, 2006 - Yet another CVT gearbox failure question! 17 Aug 2015 (Forum)
My wife and I are the "lucky" owners of a 2006 Focus C-MAX 1.6 TDCi automatic which suffered a gearbox failure last Thursday with only a little over 51000 miles on the clock. We purchased the car back in October last year for a little under £5000. We've both been reading with disbelief the experiences of other people and the lack of customer care from Ford. -
Ford Fiesta - Radio reception Fiesta vs Zafira 16 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I'd always made the assumption that the signal was too weak and not worried about it. I'd tried a number of times to have the radio search for another channel and often the automatic search failed to find anything. Recently I was driven along the same road in a 2012 Vauxhall Zafira and I realised that the radio reception was fine for the entire journey down to Exeter. So now I've realised that my Fiesta has a problem, and yet in and around London and Surrey I never have any problem with the radio (admittedly still on BBC Radio 2 - my wife won't countenance another station). -
Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 03 1.1 Easytronic gearbox might need replacing 10 Feb 2015 (Forum)

Changing vehicle 1 Feb 2015 (Forum)
We need a car with easy access, reasonable power from the engine, 4 passenger doors (fussy sister!), new type automatic gearbox (no fluid flywheel - too expensive to run), reasonable amount of space inside a well-appointed cabin and good space in the boot with rear seat down if necessary. We owned a new type Fiesta for a short period but was very disappointed with the cabin space especially in the rear, the ridiculously small rear windows, small boot and a very poor auto gearbox which continuously hunted up a down at 70 mph on undulating roads. -
Repair 01 Honda Civic or new family car???? - Family in Need of a Car 12 Dec 2014 (Forum)
"We buy any car" said it would give us £600 in the online valuation. 2) what are good new/used car recommendations (prefer an automatic, petrol, family hatch or saloon) that is stylish, reliable, with reasonable repair and running costs. Hoping to keep the car for 4-5 years. Could we get a German car in this price point? -
Nissan Micra - 04 micra stalling and battery drain 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Hi there Just bought this 2004 K12 Automatic Micra. I have two major issues with this car. It sometimes cuts at traffic lights (usually when cold). When starting from cold the car seems to cough up a little and rev goes down as if it's cutting off, which sometimes does. -
Toyota Avensis, Honda Accord - Auto Avensis, Accord or something else for <£3k 12 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I'm tired of driving small hatches and now want something with a smooth ride, a comfy and spacious interior, decent acceleration, but still reliable, economical and relatively low maintenance. Oh yes, and it must be automatic. I am planning to keep the car until it runs out of steam completely so am not worried too much about resale value. So far, I am thinking of buying a large engined petrol and then converting it to LPG after a few months. -
Renault Grand Scenic 6 years old, 60000miles - Renault Scenic loss of power/handbrake fault 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
The only issue I've noticed on the rest of the drive was that my driver side windo would only move in small movements and wouldn;t shut automatically when the car was locked. the AA checked the alternator, which was fine, and just suggested I get a new battery which I will do today. Any thoughts on if this sounds like a battery issue or something more serious?. -
Skoda Yeti 4x4 140/Skoda Octavia 1.6 Estate - General 1 Aug 2014 (Forum)
It has more than enough power, is very quiet and smooth particularly with the 7 speed DSG box and the money saved over the 2.0 is sufficient to go for Elegance trim which gives satnav, bluetooth and a decent DAB radio plus automatic wipers and headlights. Added to which it is beautifully built and frankly I prefer mine to a new Audi A4 Estate which we also have at work. The cost saving vv the Audi is of course is a no brainer. -
Ford Tourneo Connect - Ford Tourneo Connect 28 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Surely the powertrain is used for much higher weights on other Ford products. Is the rear end of a TC made of plasticine? Oh and what happened to the automatic version which got mentioned in the pre-launch publicity but doesn't appear in the UK brochure? -
Travelling to buy a (used approved) car? 22 May 2014 (Forum)
What are peoples opinions on travelling for a used car? It seems all the best ones (Toyota Avensis, Estate, Automatic) are 150-200 miles from me, and a 2.5-3 hour journey away. How does this work? Do you negotiate over the phone, then travel down, test drive, (and if all is ok) leave your old car with them and drive the new one home? -
Any Make or Model - Tagging for Disqualified Drivers and Car Thieves 15 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Adressing the theme of how can we use technology to the benefit of 'decent, honest hardworking Familes' (to paraphrase DC) then two items in the Birmingham Mail gave me an idea for discussion in the HJ Forum, namely those offenders associated with habitual crimes such as car theft, or dangerous driving/driving whilst disqualified could be fitted with an electronic tag that automatically imobilises any car they attempt to drive - in the same way that all modern cars are imobilised until the valid ignition key is detected/inserted by the built in security systems. The two links below are posted as examples and to encourage you to give your support to demand the introduction of this or similar technology: http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/dudley-man-jailed-after-100mph-6466448 http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/man-arrested-over-100k-car-6467945 The socio-political argument might go something like this: "Whilst habitual criminals have human rights and the right to a normal family life, the general law - abiding public also have the right to a much better level of protection from the harm and distress caused by the failure of our judicial system to properly and effectively deal with these types of offender" -
Volvo V70 - Which Volvo estate, or something else? 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
This would be a budget taxi for the growing brood, but I still enjoy driving and have a special love of Volvos, having lived in Sweden. My thoughts are to look for: Classic 2.4 petrol, 170bhp, automatic, maybe with the 7 seat option, with as much fsh and as low mileage as I can find, then to keep it going ... forever! Some questions which you may be able to help me with please: 1. -
Dexron III instead of Dexron II 1 Oct 2013 (Forum)
At some point I will be changing the transmission fluid on my 1995 Toyota Celica 2.0i 16v (175bhp) Automatic. It is a 4-speed arranged as 3plus O/drive button, as Ithink most Toyota autos are. It is 6th Generation Celica (one with 4 separate headlights) The car is a grey import by the way ( I am not sure if transmissions differ to UK spec Celica.) -
